  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Treated for suspected cancer

Taillon was treated for suspected testicular cancer Monday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

This awful news comes after Taillon was placed on the disabled list with groin discomfort Saturday. A timetable for return obviously remains uncertain at this point, as his health and well-being remain the No. 1 concern. Trevor Williams is occupying Taillon's spot in the rotation for the time being, though it's unclear whether he'll continue to do so in the case of an extended absence. Here's hoping everything comes out well and he works toward a speedy recovery.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mets' Tommy Milone: Could start Wednesday

The Mets could have Milone join the rotation to start Wednesday's game against the Giants, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Rafael Montero received the first crack at stepping in as the Mets' fifth starter while Noah Syndergaard (back) is on the 60-day disabled list, but he didn't impress in his outing Friday against the Marlins, surrendering five runs on seven hits and three walks in 3.2 innings. In order to address their dwindling rotation depth, the Mets decided to put in a waiver claim for Milone, who compiled a 6.43 ERA in 21 innings with the Brewers. The soft-tossing lefty posted a 16:2 K:BB, but his inability to keep the ball in the yard -- he surrendered six homers -- may continue to inflate his ERA as he moves to the Mets. Expect the team to officially name either Montero or Milone as Wednesday's starter following Monday's series opener.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Dodgers' Alex Wood: Will pick up Monday start

Wood will start Monday's game against the Pirates, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

After the Dodgers' series finale against the Padres was postponed a day earlier, there was some thought that Brandon McCarthy (shoulder), the scheduled starter for Sunday, would simply be pushed back a day; however, manager Dave Roberts ultimately opted to keep Wood on his normal schedule. It remains unclear whether McCarthy will pitch in either of the other two games of the series with the Pirates, but the Dodgers' ample rotation depth -- as well as the impending return of Hyun-Jin Ryu (hip) from the disabled list -- could prompt the team to delay McCarthy's return. If McCarthy ends up being held out this week, it's likely that Wood would receive another start over the weekend in Colorado.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: No issues at Triple-A thus far

Woodruff tossed six scoreless innings in a start with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Sunday; he now owns a 1.83 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB through his first six starts at the Triple-A level.

The thin air in Colorado Springs has wreaked havoc on Brewers pitching prospects from time to time, but that cannot be said so far for Woodruff, as four of his six starts have come at home. Woodruff broke out last season and was named the Brewers' minor league pitcher of the year, and his success has carried over to 2017 despite the change in environment and competition. While Woodruff has just reached the Triple-A level for the first time, he could push to make his MLB debut later this season if he keeps pitching like this.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Avoids major damage in Coors Field start

Walker (3-2) took a loss Sunday against the Rockies, allowing three runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings while conceding seven hits and no walks. He struck out one batter.

Aside from surrendering a solo homer to Mark Reynolds in the second inning, Walker mostly excelled at averting disaster at Coors Field. Only two of the seven hits he gave up went for extra bases, and he tied a season high by generating 11 ground balls. The right-hander's traded his usually strong strikeout totals for an increase in weak contact, but fantasy owners will probably be satisfied enough that he was able to lower his season ERA in what was a scary matchup.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Rouged up in Saturday start

Corbin (2-4) surrendered eight runs on nine hits and one walk across four innings in Saturday's 9-1 loss to the Rockies. He struck out three.

Corbin had delivered three quality starts in a row heading into Saturday's turn, but that streak came to a quick end at Coors Field. He gave up four runs in the first inning and served up two homers, nearly matching his combined total (three) from his preceding six starts this season. Things should go more smoothly in Corbin's next outing Friday at Chase Field against the Pirates, whose .307 team wOBA ranks 23rd in the majors.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Will start rehab assignment this week

Nola (back) will start a rehab assignment this week, Matt Gelb of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Nola threw a bullpen session before Sunday's game and did not have any problems with his sore back. Manager Pete Mackanin did not provide a specific date for Nola's rehab start, but the young righty will likely need just one minor-league appearance before he rejoins the Phillies' rotation.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Throws six shutout innings in Sunday win

Urena (1-0) earned his first victory of the season with six shutout innings Sunday against the Mets, allowing just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

Urena, who was called upon to make his first start of the season, was in complete control from the start and lost his bid for a no-hitter when Rene Rivera singled to lead off the fifth inning. He needed an economical 63 pitches to complete six frames and was in the strike zone at a respectable 62 percent clip. It is unclear what Urena's role will be moving forward, as he has been valuable to the club as a long reliever, but he could be a boon to a lackluster starting rotation if he could continue to deliver anything close to this type of outing.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Logs tidy win against Pirates

Davis (3-1) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings during Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.

Davis has now won three of his past four starts with just eight runs allowed and 21 strikeouts over 21 innings. After finishing 2016 with an 11-4 record and 3.54 ERA over 25 starts, his current stretch has him trending in the right direction again. With the pool of starting pitchers decimated by injuries, Davies could be a serviceable option to slot in against favorable opponents. He lines up to face the Mets at home next week.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Pirates' Tyler Glasnow: Fans six Brewers in loss

Glasnow (1-2) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 6.1 innings during Sunday's loss to Milwaukee.

After a rough couple outings to start his season (12.15 ERA), Glasnow has now allowed 10 runs over 20.1 innings through his past four starts. While it's certainly not a spectacular stretch, he's piled up 20 strikeouts during the stretch, and the improvement is encouraging. However, until the 23-year-old right-hander begins to cut down on the free passes he's allowed (6.3 BB/9), he'll struggle to be a reliable fantasy asset. A road start against Arizona at Chase Field is on deck for Glasnow.
