Palmquist dropped to 0-2 in Wednesday's 9-5 loss to the Phillies, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings.

Palmquist got into a hole early, allowing two runs in the first inning. The Colorado offense picked him up and tied the game in the bottom of the second inning, but Palmquist then gave up three runs in the third and was on the hook for the loss from there on out. The southpaw lacked both command and control in the outing -- he served up two home runs and a double while throwing only 46 of 86 pitches for strikes and issuing four free passes. Palmquist's MLB career has gotten off to a rough beginning, as he's allowed 11 earned runs through 8.1 frames over his first two starts. Ryan Feltner (back) has been throwing from the mound as he works his way back from the injured list, and when he eventually returns, it's likely that Palmquist will head back to the minors.

Nola (ankle) played long toss ahead of Wednesday's game against the Rockies, MLB.com reports.

The Phillies also hope Nola will be able to throw off a mound during their upcoming series against the Athletics, which begins Friday. The veteran right-hander is nursing a sprained right ankle that sent him to the injured list on May 15, and it's still unknown if he'll need a short minor-league rehab assignment before re-entering Philadelphia's rotation. Even if Nola is trending toward a brief absence, the Phillies may still want him to get in some reps in the minors given his 6.16 ERA through his first nine starts of 2025.

Walker (2-3) earned the win over Colorado on Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over five innings.

Walker made his first start since May 1, taking Aaron Nola's spot in the rotation after the latter landed on the IL due to a sprained right ankle. Walker wasn't spectacular in Colorado -- he got just five whiffs and allowed a single run in each of the first, second and fourth innings -- but the right-hander lasted just long enough to qualify for the victory. Walker's strongest trait Wednesday was his willingness to go after batters; he threw a first-pitch strike to 19 of the 23 hitters he faced and registered 49 total strikes among his 68 pitches. It's unclear how many more turns in the rotation Walker will get (if any), as the Phillies have an off day coming up Monday, and Nola is eligible to return from from the injured list May 30.

Megill didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Boston, allowing one run on four hits and one walk across 4.2 innings. He struck out 10.

It was a much-needed bounce-back start for Megill, who lasted just 2.2 innings his last time out and allowed four runs in each of his three previous starts. Megill tied his season high in strikeouts Wednesday despite failing to complete five innings, and he was pulled after just 85 pitches. Megill has thrown more than five frames in just three of his 10 starts. Across 48 innings this year, Megill owns a 3.56 ERA and a 66:23 K:BB.

Webb (5-4) took the loss Wednesday against Kansas City, allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits and no walks with five strikeouts across four innings.

Webb failed to complete five innings for the first time this season, snapping a streak of three consecutive starts of at least seven frames. The 28-year-old also surrendered a season-high 10 hits. Although there aren't many positive takeaways from the outing, Webb didn't walk a batter for the first time since Apr. 18. On the year, Webb owns a 2.67 ERA and a 74:16 K:BB over 67.1 innings. He's lined up to face the Tigers in Detroit early next week.

The Pirates announced Wednesday that Barco has been diagnosed with a mild muscle strain in his left shoulder, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Triple-A Indianapolis placed Barco on its 7-day injured list Sunday, but the 24-year-old isn't expected to be headed for an extended absence. He's since resumed throwing out to 120 feet after suffering the injury, which bodes well for his chances of returning to action at Indianapolis before the end of the month or perhaps in early June. Barco made two starts for the Triple-A club since being promoted earlier this month after opening the season with a 34:7 K:BB over 25.2 scoreless frames in six starts with Double-A Altoona.

Vasquez (3-4) was charged with the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays after allowing two runs on four hits and no walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out four.

Although Vasquez produced just three whiffs, he continued to stabilize his ratios after being battered for six runs back on April 21 in Detroit. The 26-year-old right-hander now has a 3.49 ERA and 1.43 WHIP through 49 innings in 2025, and he's posted an improved 14:2 K:BB across his past three outings after logging a ghastly 13:24 K:BB over his first seven starts of the year. Yu Darvish (elbow) appears to be nearing a return and is a threat to take Vasquez's place in San Diego's rotation, but the latter remains tentatively lined up to take the hill versus the Marlins next week.

Civale (hamstring) didn't make his rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday as originally scheduled, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The Brewers haven't officially named a starter for Thursday's game in Pittsburgh, so the decision to scratch Civale from his minor-league start could indicate that the 29-year-old righty will be activated early to pitch against the Pirates. If he ends up starting Thursday, Civale would presumably operate under a workload restriction, as he built up to just 60 pitches during his last rehab outing.

Manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that Verlander will be placed on the 15-day injured list due to right pectoral soreness, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Verlander was dealing with the issue during his last start against the Athletics on Sunday. There was optimism that he would be able to make his next turn through the rotation this weekend in Washington, but the veteran right-hander will instead go on the IL and miss at least two starts. The Giants could call up a starter from Triple-A to replace Verlander or shift Jordan Hicks from the bullpen back into the rotation.

Meyer didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 2-1 loss to the Cubs. He struck out four.

A solo shot by Kyle Tucker in the first inning was the only blemish on Meyer's line, but Miami's offense couldn't get much going against Cade Horton and the Chicago bullpen. That left Meyer settling for his fifth quality start of the season, but his first in May as he pulled out of a tailspin that had seen him post a 7.97 ERA over his previous four outings. The 26-year-old right-hander will look to build on this performance in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Diego.
