Adam Wainwright SP | STL
Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Headed to injured list
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said after Tuesday's loss to the Marlins that Wainwright will be placed on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation, Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Wainwright could use a break after getting torched again Tuesday for seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks over just 3.1 innings. He's surrendered 20 combined earned runs across his last three starts and his season ERA has ballooned to 7.66. The 41-year-old right-hander seems certain to retire at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign, and it's unclear how many major-league starts he may have left.

Zack Greinke SP | KC
Royals' Zack Greinke: Dealing with shoulder discomfort
Greinke was lifted from Tuesday's start versus the Twins in the sixth inning due to right shoulder discomfort, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Greinke called for the trainer with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning and eventually walked off the field and into the clubhouse. Royals manager Matt Quatraro referred to the soreness as "very mild," so it doesn't sound like the pitcher will be out too long. Greinke was charged with six runs and struck out three over 5.1 frames before exiting.

Tarik Skubal SP | LAD
Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Activated for season debut
Skubal (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Skubal is set to make his season debut for the Tigers on Tuesday against the Athletics after completing the long rehab from last August's flexor tendon surgery. The left-hander isn't totally stretched out yet, having gone just four innings in his last rehab start. He was terrific on his rehab assignment, though, leaving Skubal as a solid fantasy play in a favorable matchup even though he'll have workload restrictions.

Andrew Painter SP | PHI
Phillies' Andrew Painter: Experiencing stiffness
Painter (elbow) did not throw live batting practice Tuesday because of some stiffness, Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Painter was scheduled to face live hitters for the first time since he suffered a sprained UCL in March, but the Phillies don't want to push the 20-year-old right-hander until he is fully free of any discomfort. "As of now, no, I don't have any concern," manager Rob Thomson told reporters Tuesday afternoon. "We just want to make sure that stiffness gets out and we move forward."

Padres' Yu Darvish: Aims for weekend return
Darvish (illness) said Tuesday that he's aiming to return to the Padres' rotation this weekend against the Mets, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
Darvish hasn't pitched since June 21 due to a viral illness that caused him to lose about seven pounds, but he is beginning to regain his strength and should be able to fit in one more outing before the All-Star break. When healthy this season, the veteran right-hander has gone 5-6 with a 4.84 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 85:25 K:BB in 14 starts covering 80 innings.

Patrick Corbin SP | TOR
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Falls to Cincinnati
Corbin (5-10) took the loss Tuesday, allowing six runs on 10 hits and three walks over five innings in an 8-4 loss against the Reds. He struck out two.

Overall, Corbin's ERA is up to 5.13 with a 1.59 WHIP and 68:32 K:BB across 18 starts (101.2 innings) this season. It won't get any easier for Corbin in his next outing -- he's scheduled for a home matchup with the Rangers this weekend.

Brett Kennedy RP | CIN
Reds' Brett Kennedy: Grabs first win since 2018
Kennedy (1-0) earned the win Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over five-plus innings against the Nationals. He struck out three.
Kennedy allowed just one run through his first four innings before the Nats tagged on another in the fifth and two more in the sixth, forcing the right-hander out of the game. However, the Reds' offense carried the burden Tuesday, giving Kennedy an 8-4 win. The start was the 28-year-old Kennedy's first since 2018 with the Padres. With the Reds facing a myriad of injuries in their rotation, Kennedy could be in line for additional starts with Cincinnati.
