Soriano (7-8) took the loss against Texas on Wednesday, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.

Soriano pitched well Wednesday, notching 12 whiffs and seven punchouts while holding the Rangers to one earned run. However, opposing starter Nathan Eovaldi limited the Angels to one run across seven innings of his own to eke out the victory. Soriano nonetheless recorded his third straight quality start, and he's surrendered just five earned runs over 20 innings during that span. His ERA is down to 3.65 on the campaign, and he's already recorded a career-best 115 strikeouts over a career-high 133 frames.

Martinez didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out seven.

Martinez was able to pitch at least six frames Wednesday for the first time in his last five starts, and the seven punchouts represented his highest total since his April 29 outing in San Francisco. The 34-year-old right-hander also tossed at least five frames while yielding two runs or fewer in his fourth straight appearance. Martinez owns a 4.64 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 93:31 K:BB over 127 innings this year, and he'll have his work cut out for him against the Cubs at Wrigley Field in his next scheduled start.

Eovaldi (9-3) earned the win over the Angels on Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters over seven innnings.

Eovaldi was excellent again Wednesday, giving up just a single fourth-inning run. Though he notched only four punchouts, the right-hander recorded 12 whiffs. Eovaldi registered a third quality start over his past four outings and extended his winning streak to five contests. Over those five starts, he's posted a miniscule 0.59 ERA with a 30:8 K:BB over 30.2 innings.

Mikolas (6-8) took the loss against Miami on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts over six innings.

Mikolas was tagged for a two-run homer by Jesus Sanchez in the third inning, but those were the only runs he surrendered. That was enough to send him to his eighth loss, however, as the Cardinals offense couldn't provide any run support. Mikolas did manage to notch his first quality start over his past seven appearances and has yielded just two runs over his past two starts. He's lined up for a tough road matchup against the Dodgers in his next outing.

Quantrill (4-8) earned the win over St. Louis on Wednesday, allowing three hits and issuing two walks while striking out three batters over five scoreless innings.

All three of the hits Quantrill gave up were singles, and he escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in his final inning to emerge with the victory. The performance continued an impressive stretch for the right-hander during which he's allowed just one run over 16 innings across his past three starts. Quantrill is still at a mediocre 4.79 ERA on the campaign, but he's been pretty consistent for almost three months, giving up three or fewer earned runs in 15 of his past 16 outings.

The Dodgers acquired Serwinowski on Wednesday as part of a three-team trade with the Reds and Rays, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The Dodgers won't send anything directly to Cincinnati in exchange for Serwinowski, though the Reds will bring in Zack Littell from the Rays as the main piece in Wednesday's three-team deal. Serwinowski, 21, has been at High-A all season, logging a 4.84 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 19 appearances (17 starts). He boasts impressive strikeout numbers (92 Ks through 74.1 innings), but he'll need to improve his command before elevating further up the Dodgers' farm system.

The Rays traded Littell to the Reds on Wednesday in exchange for Brian Van Belle and Adam Serwinowski, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Immediately after throwing five shutout innings against the Yankees on Wednesday, Littell will now pack his bags and head to Cincinnati. The 29-year-old owns a 3.58 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through 133.1 innings following his latest showing and will give the Reds' rotation a nice boost as the team pushes for a spot in the postseason.

The Nationals traded Soroka to the Cubs on Wednesday in exchange for outfielder Christian Franklin and infielder Ronny Cruz, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Soroka hasn't found much success this season as a part of the Nationals' rotation, as he sports a 4.87 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 81.1 innings (16 starts), though his 4.11 FIP indicates he's fallen victim to a bit of bad luck. The 27-year-old righty will likely bolster the back end of the Cubs' rotation as they make their push for the postseason. Otherwise, Chicago may move him back into the bullpen to work as a long reliever.

Holmes (9-6) took the loss against the Padres on Wednesday, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 3.2 innings.

Holmes was tagged for four runs across the second and third innings, including a two-run homer by Gavin Sheets following a two-out error. It marked the 32-year-old right-hander's shortest outing of the season, and he hasn't gone deep enough for a quality start since June 7. Holmes owns a 3.45 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 91:46 K:BB across 117.1 innings and will try to get back on track in a home matchup with the Guardians early next week.

Freeland (2-11) took the loss Wednesday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks in three innings. He didn't record a strikeout.

Freeland was pitching through an illness Wednesday, per Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com, which likely played a part in interim manager Warren Schaeffer's decision to pull the hurler after he threw just 40 pitches. The left-hander yielded a pair of runs in the first inning, but he managed to settle in to toss two clean frames thereafter. Freeland owns a 5.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 74:26 K:BB over 104.1 innings, and he doesn't shape up as a recommended fantasy option at home versus the first-place Blue Jays next week.
