  • Jared Shuster RP | STL

Braves' Jared Shuster: Recalled from Triple-A

Shuster was recalled Thursday from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Shuster will likely hop back into Atlanta's starting rotation Friday against the visiting Padres. He struggled in his MLB debut Sunday at Washington, yielding four earned runs on six hits and five walks over 4.2 innings. The 24-year-old left-hander tallied only one strikeout in that outing and seems like a risky fantasy streamer versus San Diego's potent offense.

  • Ryan Costeiu P | LAA

Angels' Ryan Costeiu: Out with elbow injury

Costeiu is out indefinitely with an elbow injury, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.

The injury was originally reported as an oblique issue, but Mayo says the injury that sidelined Costeiu last July was an elbow issue that has not yet been resolved. A 6-foot righty, Costeiu has an excellent fastball/changeup combination that could fit in a middle relief or swing man role down the line. He would likely head to Double-A Rocket City once healthy, but it's also possible this issue leads to season-ending surgery.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Nearing extended spring outings

Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Senzatela (knee) is close to pitching in an extended spring training game, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.

Senzatela has already made it through several bullpen sessions without issue and could be ready to join the Colorado rotation as early as the start of May. He required surgery last August to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

  • Kyle Wright SP | CHC

Braves' Kyle Wright: Scuffles in rehab start

Wright (shoulder) gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings in a start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday. He struck out six.

A grand slam by Ryan O'Hearn accounted for most of the damage off the right-hander, but the fact that Wright was able to stretch out to 84 pitches (53 strikes) and generate some strikeouts are encouraging signs. He had a late start to camp after getting a cortisone injection in his shoulder in January, but Wright appears to be on track to get activated from the injured list when first eligible, potentially joining the Atlanta rotation April 11 for a home start against the Reds.

  • Brayan Bello RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Needs another rehab start

Bello (forearm) will need at least one more rehab start before being an option for the Red Sox' rotation, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Bello threw 72 pitches over five innings in an extended spring training outing Wednesday and will likely move up to Triple-A Worcester next. He should get closer to 90 or so pitches in that start as he continues to stretch back out. That could potentially put Bello in line to rejoin the Red Sox next weekend, although it might not be guaranteed that he's immediately added to the major-league club.

  • Rays' Shane McClanahan: Overcomes four walks

McClanahan (2-0) allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six across six innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Nationals.

McClanahan made his outing more difficult early on by walking a batter in each of the first three innings. He escaped those frames having allowed only one run, and he then surrendered an additional run in the fourth after allowing four consecutive batters to reach base. Despite some shakiness, the bottom line turned out fine for McClanahan, and he backed his six strikeouts with 14 swinging strikes across 94 pitches. Through two starts, he owns a 1.50 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with a 12:5 K:BB across 12 innings.

  • Zack Greinke SP | KC

Royals' Zack Greinke: Pitches well but takes loss

Greinke (0-2) took the loss against Toronto on Wednesday, pitching six innings and allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters.

Greinke scattered seven singles in the outing, and he held the Blue Jays scoreless until the sixth inning. That was enough for Toronto to claim the win, however, as Kansas City's offense managed just two hits and no runs. Greinke fell to 0-2 with the defeat, but he's pitched well in his first two starts of the campaign. The veteran has allowed three runs while posting an 8:2 K:BB over his first 11.1 frames.

  • Alek Manoah RP | LAA

Blue Jays' Alek Manoah: Shuts down Royals

Manoah (1-0) earned the win over Kansas City on Wednesday, hurling seven scoreless innings during which he gave up one hit and four walks while striking out five batters.

Manoah endured one of his worst outings as a major leaguer Opening Day against St. Louis, giving up five runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings. His second outing was a completely different story, as the right-hander yielded just one hit -- a single -- across seven sterling frames. Manoah still walked too many batters (four), but he got stronger as the game went along, retiring the final eight hitters he faced. Manoah is one of the most talented young hurlers in the game, and this outing likely provided some assurance to his fantasy managers that the Opening Day struggles were not a sign of things to come in his third big-league campaign.

  • Chris Flexen RP | CHC

Mariners' Chris Flexen: Takes loss Wednesday

Flexen (0-1) was tagged with the loss against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

Flexen entered the rotation as a result of Robbie Ray (elbow) hitting the injured list. Flexen put up a decent showing, but a Logan O'Hoppe two-run homer off him in the second inning was enough to pin him with a loss. Ray is expected to be out until at least May, so Flexen should get multiple turns in the rotation. Wednesday's outing was evidence that he's capable of keeping the Mariners competitive in his starts, but the right-hander's paltry strikeout numbers over the past two campaigns make him an unexciting fantasy option.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Efficient in loss

Nola (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk through six innings against the Yankees. He struck out five.

Nola's outing was undoubtedly an improvement compared to his Opening Day performance. The right-hander was tagged with a run in the first inning, but he kept the Yankees scoreless until the sixth inning and would eventually depart after his only walk of the game plated a third earned run in the seventh. While Nola still has yet to make it into the win column, he is trending in the right direction. The 29-year-old displayed better control, throwing 62 of his 87 pitches for strikes, and did a better job of staying ahead in his counts. Nola is tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday against the Marlins.
