The Padres placed King on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Monday, with left knee inflammation.

King was set to take the mound against the Dodgers on Friday but will instead return to the injured list after coming back from a shoulder injury Aug. 9. He was able to make just one start after being activated from the IL, during which he tossed 57 pitches over two frames in his first start since mid-May. In a corresponding move, the Padres recalled Randy Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Scherzer (3-2) earned the win Thursday over the Cubs, allowing one run on five hits and a walk across seven innings. He struck out three.

Scherzer was excellent Thursday, blanking Chicago for five innings before allowing a lone run on a Michael Busch homer in the sixth. The 41-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 2.42 ERA over his last four starts (26 innings), lowering his ERA to 3.83 on the year with a 1.07 WHIP and 52 strikeouts across 10 starts (54 innings). Scherzer will look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Pittsburgh.

Nola (ribs) will return from the injured list to start Sunday's game against the Nationals, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Nola has looked sharp during his three rehab starts with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 2.19 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 12.1 frames and most recently surrendering two runs in 5.2 innings while punching out 11 batters and walking zero. The 32-year-old will aim to keep his hot stretch going during his first MLB start since mid-May while facing the Nationals, who have posted just a .688 OPS since the All-Star break. Additionally, the Phillies plan to move to a six-man rotation once they activate Nola, which will help keep him and the rest of Philadelphia's starters well rested for the stretch run.

Means (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake County on Friday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

It will be the hurler's first official game action since he underwent a second Tommy John surgery last June. Means is scheduled to throw three innings for Lake County and will continue to build up his stamina before joining the Guardians' rotation, likely in September.

Miller (elbow) made his third rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk in 5.2 innings. He struck out four.

Miller threw 76 pitches, 51 for strikes, in what was possibly his final rehab outing before re-entering Seattle's rotation. The right-hander has been on the injured list for over two months due to right elbow inflammation, and his eventual return is likely to push Logan Evans back to the minor leagues. If Miller's next start comes with Mariners, his return would likely be set for Tuesday in a tough spot in Philadelphia against the first-place Phillies.

Assad is slated to start Sunday's game against the Pirates at Wrigley Field, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Assad had spent the entire season on the shelf while recovering from a left oblique strain before he returned from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. The right-hander endured a rough 2025 debut, taking a loss while allowing four earned runs on eight hits and one walk over four innings. Though Assad will be in line for at least one more start Sunday, his stay in the big-league rotation could soon come to an end with Jameson Taillon (calf) tracking toward a return from the injured list next week.

Blackburn (shoulder) struck out three and gave up two earned runs on one hit and one walk over five innings of relief in Wednesday's 11-6 loss to Atlanta.

Activated from the 15-day injured list early in the day after he had been on the shelf since July 3 due to a shoulder impingement, Blackburn was needed for some length out of the bullpen right away when starter David Peterson recorded just 10 outs on 80 pitches (48 strikes). Blackburn had been fully built up as a starter during his minor-league rehab stint, so he was well equipped to handle the heavy workload in relief. With New York moving Frankie Montas to the bullpen to clear a spot in the rotation, Nolan McLean will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse this weekend to serve as the team's new fifth starter. If McLean falters, Blackburn could be next in line to join the rotation.

Bohorquez, who was promoted to High-A Cedar Rapids on Aug. 4, has a 1.76 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB in 30.2 innings across his last seven starts.

Bohorquez issued 17 walks in his first 20 innings this season at Single-A Fort Myers, but something has clicked lately for the 20-year-old righty. A sturdy 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Bohorquez has a plus curveball and his fastball has been up to 97 mph in recent starts, although his third-pitch cutter lags behind as a fringe-average offering.

Atlanta designated Carrasco for assignment Thursday.

Atlanta appears set to proceed with Hurston Waldrep and Erick Fedde as its back-end rotation options after DFA'ing Carrasco, who allowed 15 earned runs on 22 hits and seven walks over 13.2 innings across his three starts with the club upon being acquired from the Yankees on July 28. Once he clears waivers, the 38-year-old right-hander could elect free agency in pursuit of an opportunity elsewhere, but it's possible that his time as a big-league pitcher may be over.

Manoah (elbow) struck out one batter over 1.2 innings and 49 pitches in his rehab start Wednesday for Triple-A Buffalo while allowing three earned runs on two hits, three walks and a hit batsman.

Making his fourth rehab start with his fourth different affiliate, Manoah displayed wayward control, which has been a recurring theme since he kicked off his minor-league assignment July 14. He now holds an 11.57 ERA, 2.71 WHIP and 6:8 K:BB across seven innings through four starts, showing little resemblance to the pitcher who earned an All-Star nod in 2022. Manoah's 30-day rehab window has come to a close, though as Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca notes, the Blue Jays will have the ability to extend his assignment in 10-day increments until his rehab reaches 60 days. The 27-year-old still has two minor-league options remaining, and given the poor form he's displayed thus far on his rehab assignment, he'll likely stay with Buffalo once Toronto formally activates him from the 60-day injured list.
