The Padres placed Kim on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation.

Kim received somewhat favorable MRI results after he jammed his shoulder during Sunday's game against Colorado, but the team ultimately decided to put him on the shelf after further evaluation. Tyler Wade will presumably take over as the Padres' primary shortstop while Kim is out, and Matthew Batten will come up from Triple-A to provide additional depth in the infield.

Rojas is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.

Rojas started the previous five games and will receive a day off after going 7-for-17 with a double, two RBI and three runs during that stretch. Tommy Edman will shift to shortstop while Kevin Kiermaier starts in center field.

Kim (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The 28-year-old jammed his right shoulder during Sunday's contest and received somewhat favorable MRI results Monday, but he'll sit Tuesday for the second consecutive. The Diamondbacks optioned Alexander to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Luis Guillorme, who was signed Tuesday. Alexander's latest stint in the majors lasted less than a week and he went hitless in 10 plate appearances.

Newman started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Monday's 9-6 win over Miami.

Newman filled in at second base for the injured Ketel Marte (ankle), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. Newman, who had seen a spike in playing time while Marte was day-to-day for the previous 10 days, should be the primary second baseman while Marte is unavailable.

Triple-A Iowa reinstated Vazquez (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Vazquez hadn't seen any action since July 6 due to an unspecified injury prior to being activated. He's looked sharp at the dish in four games since, going 5-for-14 with three home runs.

Ahmed was designated for assignment by Los Angeles on Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Ahmed has seen his playing time dwindle over the last few weeks, totaling only 24 at-bats so far in August. Following the return of Tommy Edman (wrist) and Max Muncy (oblique) from the injured list Monday, the club has elected to send the veteran shortstop to the waiver wire.

The veteran shortstop has a 10-game hitting streak going during which he's slashing .371/.405/.429 with five RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Though his fantasy appeal is limited by a lack of power, Rojas has been a steady bat for Los Angeles throughout the year, as he's hitting .286 through 244 plate appearances while adding excellent defense.
