Edman will take a seat Wednesday versus the Rockies.

Edman will get a breather after he went 2-for-6 with a solo homer, a double, a walk and two runs scored over the first two games of the series. Brendan Donovan will draw the start at shortstop while Taylor Motter enters the lineup at third base and bats ninth in the series finale.

Swanson (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Swanson helped the Cubs erase a seven-run deficit Tuesday and went 4-for-4 at the dish before exiting Chicago's eventual 14-9 win in the sixth inning due to what the team termed as lower left side tightness. Manager David Ross clarified after the game that Swanson was dealing with cramping, and while the star shortstop will sit out Wednesday's series finale, he'll most likely be good to go for Friday's game in Los Angeles following a team off day Thursday. Nico Hoerner will slide over from the keystone to cover shortstop Wednesday in place of Swanson.

Bogaerts went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mets.

With the Padres clinging to a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning, Bogaerts gave his team what proved to be crucial insurance runs by taking a hanging slider from Dennis Santana deep to left field. The shortstop is thriving in his new uniform, slashing .333/.426/.667 through 12 games with three doubles, four homers, 10 runs, 10 RBI, a steal and a sharp 8:5 BB:K.

Berti went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Phillies.

The utility player opened the scoring in the third inning by turning on an Aaron Nola knuckle curve and driving it over the wall in center field. Berti isn't known for his power -- his career high in homers is six, set back in 2019 -- but after stealing a league-leading 41 bases last season, he's now swiped two in the last three games. As long as he continues getting everyday playing time at shortstop, the 33-year-old could rack up pilfers in a hurry.

Edman went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 9-6 victory over Colorado.

The 27-year-old started the scoring with his first long ball -- and first extra-base hit -- of the season during the opening frame, and he also hit his way on during the third and fifth innings. Edman has a .289/.372/.395 slash line with a home run, a stolen base and five runs through 11 games.

Manager David Ross said after Tuesday's 14-9 win over the Mariners that Swanson (side) was dealing with cramping before his early exit from the contest, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Ross also noted that Swanson was feeling exhausted prior to the contest after he had been at the hospital for most of Tuesday to be his wife, Mallory, a professional soccer player who recently suffered a torn patellar tendon in her knee. Swanson proceeded to start Tuesday and went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run before succumbing to cramping on his left side. While Swanson may miss Wednesday's series finale as a precaution, he doesn't look as though he'll be at risk of a stint on the injured list.

Swanson was removed from Tuesday's game against the Mariners with left side tightness, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

The 29-year-old went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored before being removed from the contest. Swanson threw one ball to first base during infield warmups ahead of the sixth inning before he motioned to the dugout and left the field. It's unclear if he'll be available for Wednesday's series finale, though it wouldn't be surprising to see the Cubs exhibit caution, especially with a scheduled day off coming Thursday.

Downs was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Rochester.

He'll replace Ildemaro Vargas, who is going on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder strain. Downs had a rough showing in the Grapefruit League this spring and was slashing just .105/.191/.211 through 21 plate appearances this season at the Triple-A level. He has good speed and a bit of power, but the 24-year-old former Red Sox prospect probably won't offer immediate fantasy relevance -- even in deeper NL-only formats.

Rojas is hitting ninth and playing shortstop for Tuesday's battle against the Giants

Rojas got Monday off, as the Dodgers will limit the shortstop's innings while recovering from the groin injury that caused him to miss most of the previous week. Chris Taylor moves over to third base with Max Muncy getting Tuesday off.

Cruz (fibula) was transferred Tuesday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for right-hander Eli Villalobos, who was claimed off waivers from the Marlins on Tuesday. Cruz is expected to be sidelined for at least the next four months after suffering a fractured fibula Sunday while sliding into home plate.
