  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Goes yard Thursday

Cruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Brewers.

Cruz took Adrian Houser yard in the second inning to record his second home run of the season. Unsurprisingly, his power has translated quickly to the big-league level as five of Cruz's nine hits have gone for extra bases. However, he has also struck out at a 31.8 percent clip, suppressing his batting average to a mark of .214 across 44 plate appearances.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Reinstated by Pirates

Marcano (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Thursday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Marcano tested positive for COVID-19 on June 17, but he recently appeared in three rehab games and went 1-for-9 with three runs, two stolen bases, four walks and two strikeouts. The 22-year-old carved out relatively consistent playing time leading up to his absence and should have a chance to regain at-bats after Yu Chang was designated for assignment Thursday.

  • Yu Chang SS | TB

Pirates' Yu Chang: DFA'd by Pittsburgh

Chang was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Thursday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old went 2-for-18 over his past nine games and will lose his spot on the 40-man roster with Tucupita Marcano (illness) returning from the COVID-19 injured list. Chang has appeared in 22 games between the Pirates and Guardians this year and has a .135/.237/.212 slash line in 59 plate appearances.

  • Paul DeJong SS | NYY

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Leaves after HBP

DeJong exited Wednesday's game with Triple-A Memphis after being hit by a pitch on the hand, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

DeJong has been at Memphis since being demoted May 10, and he has a .219/.264/.475 slash line with 11 home runs and 36 RBI in 39 games. He should be considered day-to-day since the specifics of the injury remain unclear.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Set to fill in for injured Chisholm

Berti will start at second base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

With Brian Anderson recently making his return from the 10-day injured list and Joey Wendle (hamstring) on pace to return from the IL this weekend, Berti looked to be at risk of losing out on regular playing time at third base. Given how well Berti has performed over the past several weeks, the Marlins likely would have carved out a quasi-everyday role for the 32-year-old somewhere in the lineup when the team was back to full strength, but Jazz Chisholm's (back) move to the IL temporarily solves that conundrum. With Chisholm at risk of being sidelined through the All-Star break, Berti should take over as the Marlins' everyday second baseman and leadoff man against both left- and right-handed pitching. He's been a fantasy goldmine thus far in June, slashing .309/.374/.392 while supplying 15 runs, 10 RBI and a whopping 18 stolen bases.

  • Luke Williams SS | ATL

Marlins' Luke Williams: Returns from minors

The Marlins recalled Williams from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Williams was optioned to Triple-A two days ago, but he's eligible to rejoin the big club after the Marlins moved Jazz Chisholm (back) to the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Jon Berti is expected to step in for Chisholm as the Marlins' everyday second baseman, while the versatile Williams handles a utility role. Don't expect Williams to see more than a start or two per week, with most of his opportunities likely to come against left-handed pitching.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Day off Wednesday

Edman isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Marlins, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Edman hit .227 with a double, three runs, three RBI and three stolen bases over the last five games and is getting a scheduled breather ahead of the Cardinals' off day Thursday. Edmundo Sosa is starting at shortstop and batting eighth.

  • Phillies' Johan Camargo: Placed on 10-day IL

Camargo was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right knee strain Wednesday, retroactive to June 26.

Camargo dealt with a right knee sprain earlier this month that forced him to miss two weeks, but he played in three games after returning from the injured list. However, he was out of the lineup for each of the last two matchups and will head back to the IL due to his knee strain. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return, but Darick Hall's contract was selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley as part of a corresponding move Wednesday.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Takes seat Wednesday

Arcia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia.

Phil Gosselin will check in at the keystone for Arcia, who has taken over as a full-time starter at the position since Ozzie Albies fractured his foot June 13. Arcia had started in each of Atlanta's last eight games, going 5-for-30 with two runs and an RBI during that stretch.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Steals 19th base in two-hit night

Edman went 2-for-4 with one RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in a 5-3 win over the Marlins on Tuesday.

Edman now has 19 stolen bases to tie him for second best in MLB. The prototypical leadoff hitter is also getting on base at a .342 clip and has come around to score 58 times in 2022, putting him second only to the Yankees' Aaron Judge in the latter category. Edman is delivering on his potential and is on pace for career highs in both offensive categories.
