Rockies' Chris Owings: X-rays negative on thumb

Rockies manager Bud Black said Sunday that X-rays on Owings' sprained left thumb returned negative, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Owings' thumb injury was still significant enough for him to land on the 10-day injured list Saturday, but the Rockies are seemingly hopeful he'll avoid a lengthy absence. Black said that Owings will still receive a precautionary MRI next weekend when the Rockies return to Denver.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Making season debut Saturday

Ahmed is starting Saturday's game against the Reds.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Optioned to alternate camp

Perdomo was optioned to the Diamondbacks' alternate training site Saturday.

Perdomo got his first taste of major-league action early in the 2021 campaign and went 1-for-10 with a run, three walks and two strikeouts in four games. However, he'll head to the team's alternate camp after Nick Ahmed (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Josh Rojas should serve as the backup shortstop for Arizona now that Ahmed is healthy.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Activated from injured list

Ahmed (knee) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Ahmed dealt with right knee inflammation late in spring training that forced him to miss the start of the regular season, but he'll be eligible to make his season debut early as Saturday. Ahmed should take over as the Diamondbacks' everyday shortstop once again now that he's healthy.

Rockies' Chris Owings: Lands on 10-day IL

Owings was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb sprain Saturday.

Owings lined a triple as a pinch hitter in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Giants, but manager Bud Black revealed Saturday that the 29-year-old is still receiving treatment for a tight hamstring. The team continues to monitor Owings' progress closely, and he should be considered day-to-day.
