  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Increasing baseball activities

Story (shoulder) expects to perform his normal pregame workout routine Wednesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

The power-hitting shortstop began taking dry swings Tuesday and also fielded ground balls, both signs that he's on the upswing of his recovery process. Story also commented that he feels "pretty much back to normal," so as long as Wednesday's program goes off without a hitch, a brief rehab stint could be on tap sometime in the coming days.

  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Banks ninth stolen base of season

Owings singled twice in four at-bats to go with an RBI and his ninth stolen base of the season in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Mets.

Owings' steal was one of three on the evening for the Diamondbacks, who lead the majors in that category. Even if first-year manager Torey Lovullo had been less willing to regularly give Owings the green light on the basepaths, the 25-year-old would still be on track for a breakout campaign thanks to his performance at the dish. Tuesday marked Owings' second game in a row with exactly two hits, boosting his batting average to a robust .321 on the season.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Gets breather for day game

Correa is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Marlins.

With Wednesday's game kicking off at 12:10 pm ET, Astros manager A.J. Hinch decided it was an optimal time to give the star shortstop a break, even with the team heading into an off day Thursday. After a slow start to the season, Correa has been dialed in throughout May, submitting a 1.120 OPS while scoring 16 runs and driving in 15. Marwin Gonzalez will spell Correa in the field in the series finale.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Two hits in Tuesday's loss

Anderson (personal) returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing four games and went 2-for-4 with a home run in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Angels.

Anderson was primed to be the hero when his third homer of the season in the top of 11th gave the White Sox the lead in extras, but it wasn't meant to be. Prior to being away from the team over the weekend, Anderson had been in and out of the lineup and dropped from the top of the batting order to the seven-hole. Through it all, the struggling young shortstop has hit in five straight contests with multiple hits in three of them. There are still holes in his plate approach, but there are hopeful signs. During Anderson's five-game hit streak, which has pushed his average to .230, he's struck out just three times in 21 at-bats, well below his 23.5 strikeout percentage for the season.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Takes seat Tuesday

Seager is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Seager will take a seat for the first time all month as the Giants send lefty-throwing Ty Blach to the mound. It appears to be a routine day of rest for Seager, who is 0-for-5 in his career against Blach. Enrique Hernandez will draw the start at shortstop in his stead.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Anderson (personal) is back in action Tuesday against the Angels, batting seventh and playing shortstop.

Anderson was initially expected to return to the lineup Monday after missing the weekend series to attend a funeral, but he'll get back with the team just a day later. He'll resume his normal spot in the order and should be a mainstay in the lineup barring any extraneous circumstances.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Takes practice swings Tuesday

Story (shoulder) took dry swings Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Story tested his range of motion by practicing his swing under the watchful eye of the Rockies' training staff. At this point in time, the club has yet to indicate when Story is expected to return, but more information should become available as he increases his level of activity. While Story is out, look for Pat Valaika to remain at shortstop.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: Takes seat Monday

Arcia is not in the lineup Monday against the Padres.

Despite riding a three-game hitting streak into Monday's contest, Arcia will take a seat in favor of Eric Sogard. While he's started to pick it up at the plate recently, the 22-year-old is still slashing just .222/.272/.376 through 35 games this season.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Absent from lineup Monday

Anderson (personal) is not in the lineup Monday against the Angels.

Anderson was expected to be back with the team for the start of this series in Anaheim, but it seems like his personal leave is taking a bit longer than initially expected. He could be back in the lineup Tuesday, but in the meantime, Tyler Saladino will pick up another start at shortstop.

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Will have cast removed next week

Rojas, who is on the 60-day disabled list with a broken thumb, is expected to have his cast removed sometime next week, Tim Healey of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

This will mark the first big step in Rojas' recovery process after he underwent surgery last week to repair the fracture. Barring any setbacks, the 28-year-old is still eyeing a return right around the All-Star break. A firmer timetable for his return should become available as he returns to baseball activities.
