Caballero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The promotion of Junior Caminero from Triple-A Durham earlier this week means that Caballero's opportunities at third base will be limited moving forward, but Caballero started at shortstop Tuesday and could also have avenues to playing time at second base or in the corner outfield. He'll exit the starting nine Wednesday, but Caballero's standing as a near-everyday player still appears fairly stable for now.

Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Turner went 2-for-16 at the dish over the Phillies' last four games and hadn't had a day off since July 31, so manager Rob Thomson will give the veteran shortstop a chance to regroup before Philadelphia opens a four-game series with Washington on Thursday. Edmundo Sosa will replace Turner at shortstop and bat seventh.

Rocchio will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Rocchio has now started in three consecutive matchups with a right-handed pitcher and seems to have supplanted Daniel Schneemann -- who has hit the bench in two of those contests -- as the Guardians' preferred option at shortstop. While his .726 OPS since the beginning of August is a stark improvement over his season-long mark of .608, Rocchio's grip on an everyday role would still seem to be tenuous.

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The lefty-hitting Schneemann is on the bench for the third straight game, including the second in a row against a right-handed pitcher (Jameson Taillon). The rookie had mostly held down a strong-side platoon role since getting his first big-league call-up June 2, but after producing a modest .660 OPS thus far in August, he looks to have ceded the primary role at shortstop to Brayan Rocchio.

Cruz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

After making a return from an illness, Cruz had started in each of the Pirates' last six games, going 9-for-24 with three extra-base hits and a 3:6 BB:K. Though he looks to be fully healthy again, Cruz will join fellow left-handed hitters Rowdy Tellez and Ji Hwan Bae on the bench as the Padres send southpaw Martin Perez to the hill.

The Diamondbacks recalled Alexander from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Alexander will provide some infield depth while Ketel Marte (ankle) is banged up. The rookie slashed .297/.374/.446 versus left-handed pitching during his previous stint in the majors this season, so he's likely to see the majority of his playing time against southpaws. Alexander will crack the lineup Wednesday against a right-hander in Rockies rookie Tanner Gordon, filling in for Marte at second base and batting eighth.

Kim is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Kim started the first two games of the series, picking up a couple hits and a stolen base, but he'll receive a day of rest in Wednesday's matinee. Tyler Wade is drawing the start at shortstop for the Padres.

Pena went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Rays.

Pena's sixth-inning solo shot off Shane Baz proved to be the difference in Houston's eventual one-run victory. The 26-year-old shortstop has four multi-hit performances in his last five games -- he's gone 10-for-21 (.476) with a pair of homers and a 1.310 OPS in that span. Overall, Pena's slash line is up to .278/.323/.400 with 11 homers, 55 RBI, 60 runs scored and 13 steals across 488 plate appearances this season.

Lindor went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to the A's.

The shortstop put together another strong performance at the top of the Mets' order. Lindor has collected multiple hits in five of the last six games and has reached base safely in 11 straight contests to begin August, slashing .333/.373/.396 with two steals, four RBI and six runs. While his homerless drought sits at 17 games, Tuesday's double was his 30th of the season -- the sixth time in his career he's reached that mark.

Fitzgerald went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to Atlanta.

Fitzgerald's only hit of the night was a big one, as he took Charlie Morton deep to left-center field in the third to bring the Giants within a run. It was his fourth home run this month and his 13th of the year, all of which have come since July 9. His .972 OPS leads all rookies with at least 150 plate appearances this season. For the year, Fitzgerald is slashing .305/.363/.609 with 25 RBI, 36 runs, 12 steals and a 13:53 BB:K in 190 plate appearances.
