  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Crushes first homer

Abrams went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Reds.

Abrams went deep for the first time this season, hitting a monster 429-foot home run to center off Nick Martinez. The 23-year-old needed 19 games last season before hitting his first homer, so it's encouraging to see him find the bleachers in the Nationals' first series of 2024. Abrams and his team now return to Washington for two home series against the Pirates and Phillies this week.

Giants' Nick Ahmed: Heads to bench

Ahmed is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Ahmed went 3-for-10 with a double and two RBI in the first three games of the season but will take a seat Sunday. Tyler Fitzgerald will step in at shortstop and bat ninth in the series finale.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Not starting Sunday

Rocchio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Oakland.

Rocchio went 3-for-11 with three doubles, two RBI and two runs while starting the first three games of the season, but he'll head to the bench Sunday. Gabriel Arias will man shortstop and bat ninth in the series finale.

Padres' Tyler Wade: Takes seat Sunday

Wade is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Giants.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Yankees' Jon Berti: Joining lineup Sunday

Berti was a late addition to the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, and he's starting at third base and batting seventh.

Berti was expected to start Saturday before ultimately being excluded from the lineup, but the reverse happened Sunday, as he was initially absent from the starting nine. The 34-year-old will make his first start with the Yankees, as Anthony Volpe was a late scratch due to an illness.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Late scratch Sunday

Volpe was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game at Houston due to an illness, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Volpe has hits in each of the first three games of the season and has gone 4-for-10 with a double, a homer, four walks, two RBI and three runs, but he'll sit Sunday due to some type of ailment. Jon Berti will replace him in the lineup and start at third base, pushing Oswaldo Cabrera to shortstop.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Scratched with neck spasms

Bichette was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay due to neck spasms.

Bichette was penciled in for his fourth straight start at shortstop to begin the season but will instead hit the bench with neck spasms. The severity of the injury is unclear, so the 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information is available. Ernie Clement will take over at shortstop for Toronto.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Gets day off

Seager is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Cubs.

Seager is coming off sports hernia surgery he underwent in January and was able to play in only four spring training games. The 29-year-old recorded four hits with two RBI in Saturday's win. With his day off, Wyatt Langford will hit out of the two spot in left field, and Ezequiel Duran gets the start at shortstop.

  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Takes seat Sunday

Cruz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Cruz started the first three games of the season and will receive Sunday off after going 5-for-14 with a home run, two RBI, three runs and six strikeouts. Alika Williams will step in at shortstop and bat eighth in the series finale at Miami.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Belts first homer of campaign

Volpe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday against the Astros in a 5-3 victory.

Volpe gave New York some needed breathing room with his solo shot in the eighth inning to put the team ahead by two runs. The long ball was the second-year shortstop's first of the campaign after he belted 21 homers as a rookie last year. Volpe has had at least one hit in each of his first three games this season and has shown improved plate discipline in the small sample size with a 4:3 BB:K through 14 plate appearances.
