White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Activated from 10-day IL

The White Sox activated Meidroth (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Meidroth missed the minimum amount of time on the injured list with his bruised thumb. In a corresponding move, the White Sox designated Jacob Amaya for assignment. • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Getting breather Friday

Tovar is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Tovar's streak of 15 straight starts at shortstop will come to an end Friday. He's yielding to Ryan Ritter, who was just activated from the injured list. During that 15-game stretch, Tovar went 18-for-61 (.295) with eight doubles and two stolen bases.

  • Ryan Ritter SS | COL

Rockies' Ryan Ritter: Back from 10-day IL

The Rockies activated Ritter (finger) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Ritter took a pitch off his right middle finger July 19 and required stitches. In a corresponding move, the Rockies optioned Adael Amador to Triple-A Albuquerque. Ritter has slashed .238/.291/.347 with one home run, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored, one stolen base and a 7:35 BB:K across his first 113 big-league plate appearances this season.

  • Alexander Vargas: Cut loose by Yanks

The Yankees released Vargas on Friday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

Vargas received $2.5 million to sign with the Yankees back in August of 2018, one of the largest bonuses given to an international prospect that year. The 23-year-old shortstop made his way up to Double-A this season but slashed just .227/.299/.333 with one homer and 10 stolen bases at Somerset before being cut loose.

  • Gabriel Arias SS | CLE

Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Contributes multiple ways in win

Arias went 0-for-1 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 9-4 win over Miami.

Arias contributed in various ways to Cleveland's win. He delivered one run on a groundout and drove in the game-winning tally on a sacrifice fly. The shortstop was later hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored the team's final run. Arias has maintained a tenuous grip on the starting shortstop job since returning from an ankle injury in late July, going 15-for-59 (.254) with three home runs, 14 RBI, two steals and six runs scored over 17 contests.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Adjusting to leadoff spot

Perdomo went 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Rockies.

Perdomo was moved to leadoff Tuesday and has reached base seven times in 14 plate appearances while scoring six runs over the last three games. He's currently riding a 15-game on-base streak, during which he's slashing .400/.500/.636 with three home runs, seven RBI, 12 walks and 16 runs scored.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Homers, steals base

Lindor went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a stolen base during Thursday's 4-3 loss to Atlanta.

Lindor flashed his speed and power during Thursday's loss, recording his 22nd homer of the campaign and his 19th stolen base. He's now logged back-to-back multi-hit games after enduring a 1-for-23 (.043) stretch at the plate. The 31-year-old shortstop is slashing .249/.320/.435 in 540 plate appearances this season.

  • Yankees' Andrew Velazquez: Signs MiLB deal with Yanks

The Yankees signed Velazquez to a minor-league contract Thursday.

He slashed .244/.315/.342 with four home runs, 32 RBI, 42 runs scored, 23 stolen bases and a 27:74 BB:K across 311 plate appearances with the affiliate prior to his release.

  • Conrad Cason SS | BOS

Red Sox's Conrad Cason: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Cason underwent Tommy John surgery this week, Andrew Parker of Beyond the Monster reports.

Cason pitched in just one game in the rookie-level Florida Complex League back in May and had been sidelined ever since due to arm fatigue. The 19-year-old now faces a lengthy rehab that will likely keep him off the mound until the 2027 campaign. Cason was an eighth-round pick in the 2024 Draft and is a two-way prospect at shortstop and pitcher.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Cleared for rehab assignment

Wilson (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Wilson was cleared for full baseball activities earlier this week and is now ready to test things out in a game setting. The rookie shortstop has been shelved since late July with a fractured left forearm. Because Wilson has only been sidelined for a few weeks, his rehab assignment should be brief.
