Adames went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday in a loss to the Cubs.

Adames broke a 1-1 tie with a solo shot in the sixth inning. For a while it looked like that would hold up as the game-winner, but a ninth-inning Chicago comeback turned the outcome around. The long ball was Adames' first since June 23. It extended his modest hitting streak to six contests, during which he's batting .308 with five extra-base hits and five RBI.

Pena went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Rockies.

Pena returned from a five-game absence caused by neck stiffness. He popped his 10th homer of the season but only his second across his last 26 games. In that same span, he has only six total extra-base hits with six RBI and 13 runs scored. Pena hasn't taken the step forward some had hoped for in his second season, but he's settled in to provide decent production across the board, as he has eight stolen bases and a combined 73 runs and RBI across 77 games on the campaign.

De La Cruz went 3-for-6 with two doubles, a solo home run and a steal in Wednesday's 9-2 victory over the Nationals.

De La Cruz crushed a 455-foot shot off Josiah Gray, extending the Reds' lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning, before adding two doubles and a stolen base later in the game. The star rookie is now 7-for-10 over his last two games, boosting his slash line to .318/.356/.536 with four homers, 25 runs scored, 14 RBI and 11 steals through his first 118 plate appearances.

Swanson was removed from Wednesday's game against the Brewers with a left heel contusion, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Swanson was removed during the seventh inning of Wednesday's contest, and his left heel is confirmed to be the issue. Manager David Ross said Swanson will be held out of Thursday's lineup, but he likely isn't facing an extended absence. The 29-year-old infielder is 4-for-22 with a home run and eight strikeouts since the beginning of July.

Swanson was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Brewers in the seventh inning, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear why Swanson was removed from the game, but the Cubs will likely provide an update in the near future. The 29-year-old shortstop is slashing .258/.343/.409 this season and was 0-for-3 before exiting Wednesday's contest.

Edman was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with right wrist discomfort.

Dylan Carlson will step into the Cards' lineup while Edman takes Wednesday to recover. His injury doesn't seem to be too severe, so it's possible Edman returns within a day or two.

Edman (undisclosed) was scratched from the lineup Wednesday versus the Marlins, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Lars Nootbaar is sliding over to center field and Dylan Carlson has been added to the lineup in right field. There is no word yet as to what prompted Edman's sudden removal from the Cardinals' batting order.

Mondesi (knee) remains shut down from baseball activities, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

The Red Sox made the decision three weeks ago to shut Mondesi down from baseball activities as he worked on regaining strength in his surgically repaired left knee. Evidently, the club isn't satisfied that he's made enough progress in that area, so the shutdown remains. Mondesi's timetable is open-ended.

Chang (wrist) could be activated from the 60-day injured list as soon as Thursday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Chang has played four games since re-starting his rehab assignment, going 3-for-16 at the dish. The Red Sox have said he will be their shortstop when he returns, although that could only be for a few weeks until Trevor Story (elbow) is ready. Chang is coming back from hamate bone surgery.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that there's a chance Story (elbow) could be ready for a rehab assignment immediately after the All-Star break, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Cora also noted that when Story returns it will be as a shortstop, as the team has no plans to bring him back sooner as a designated hitter. August has been mentioned as a timeline for Story's return and with the way things are progressing it's looking like he could be ready right around the beginning of that month. "He's been so good so far, no obstacles, no red flags, you never know what can happen in the upcoming days... but so far it's trending in the right direction, and fast," Cora said of Story.
