Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Imaging comes back clean

X-rays and a CT scan on Volpe's left elbow came back negative after he was pulled from Friday's game against Boston, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Volpe took a pitch off his elbow during the second inning, though it doesn't seem like he suffered any structural damage as a result. The Yankees may elect to give him a day or two off to recover, but a trip to the IL likely won't be necessary.

  • Tarik Skubal SP | LAD

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Strikes out six in win

Skubal (6-2) earned the win against the Cubs on Friday, allowing one run on eight hits and no walks with six strikeouts over 7.2 innings.

Skubal carried a 21-inning scoreless streak into the sixth before surrendering an RBI double to Kyle Tucker. The lefty ace threw 64 of 95 pitches for strikes and generated 12 whiffs, completing at least seven innings for the third straight start. On the season, he sports a 2.16 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and an outstanding 105:7 K:BB across 83.1 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in a road matchup with the Orioles next week.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Astros' Josh Hader: Converts 17th save

Hader earned the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Guardians, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Hader was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth and needed just 12 pitches to do so. The southpaw has now gone eight straight outings without allowing a run and has held opponents scoreless in 22 of his 25 appearances this season. He's a perfect 17-for-17 in save opportunities with a 1.33 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 41:6 K:BB across 27 innings.

  • David Fry LF | CLE

Guardians' David Fry: Hits first homer in loss

Fry went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Astros.

Fry struck out in his first at-bat before reaching base three straight times, including a solo homer in the sixth inning. In five games (three starts) since returning from the injured list, the 29-year-old has gone 3-for-10 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base.

  • Guardians' Logan Allen: Falters late in loss

Allen (3-4) took the loss against the Astros on Friday, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts over six innings.

Allen opened with four scoreless innings before giving up four runs over his final two. The southpaw generated just four swinging strikes on 88 pitches but managed to complete six frames for only the second time in 11 starts this season. He'll carry a 4.42 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 40:27 K:BB across 55 innings into a home matchup with the Reds next week.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Suffers bruised elbow

Volpe was removed from Friday's game against the Red Sox with a left elbow contusion.

Volpe took an 89-mph changeup off his elbow in the second inning of Friday's contest. He remained in the game initially but was eventually replaced in the fourth. The Yankees are still awaiting the results of imaging on Volpe's elbow.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Out multiple months

Mountcastle was diagnosed with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain Friday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Mountcastle's hamstring sent him to the 10-day injured list Saturday, but now that the severity of his injury has been revealed, he's expected to miss between 8-12 weeks. Even in a best-case scenario, the 28-year-old's absence will extend into August, but he still has a decent chance to make it back before the end of the regular season. Coby Mayo and Ryan O'Hearn have been splitting first-base duties since Mountcastle landed on the IL, and the pair will presumably continue to share starts going forward.
