The Rockies acquired Rumfield from the Yankees on Wednesday in exchange for Angel Chivilli, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Rumfield has been a quality performer the last two seasons in the minors, finishing the 2025 campaign with a .285/.378/.447 batting line, 16 home runs and a 70:108 BB:K over 138 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He appeared unlikely to get much of an opportunity with the Yankees, at least not in 2026, but in Colorado, Rumfield could compete for the Opening Day first baseman job. Rumfield is not currently on the 40-man roster.

The Yankees acquired Chivilli from the Rockies on Wednesday in exchange for T.J. Rumfield, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Chivilli has managed just a 6.18 ERA and 71:33 K:BB over 90.1 innings covering two major-league seasons. However, the 23-year-old ranked in the 88th percentile in fastball velocity, the 84th percentile in groundball rate and had whiff rates exceeding 40 percent with both his changeup and slider. There could be some untapped potential for Chivilli as he gets out of Colorado and into the Yankees' pitching development.

Carter said last week that one of his goals this season is to steal 30 bases, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Carter is 19-for-21 on stolen-base attempts in 131 career games, and he ranked in the 90th percentile in sprint speed in 2025. The outfielder believes new first-base coach Travis Jankowski -- who stole 104 bases in his career -- will be able to help him get the most out of his speed on the bases. Injuries have been Carter's biggest downfall, as he's played only 108 games with the big club over the last two seasons. However, he's fully recovered from the fractured wrist that ended his 2025 season and said that "I actually feel really good right now" after merely "kind of telling myself that I feel good in the past." Carter remains a major injury risk in 2026 -- particularly since his back issues have been chronic -- and the left-handed hitter is unlikely to play much versus southpaws. There's still some breakout potential with the 23-year-old, though, and he only costs a late-round flier in fantasy leagues.

Atlanta signed Groshans to a minor-league contract Jan. 23.

Groshans' 2025 campaign was spent mostly at Double-A Northwest Arkansas in the Royals organization, where he slashed .291/.360/.368 with three home runs in 59 contests. The 26-year-old's lone big-league experience came in 2022, when he put up a .619 OPS in 17 games with the Marlins. Groshans is likely ticketed for Triple-A Gwinnett, where he'll provide utility infield depth.

Law (forearm) signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Aaron Hughes of SI.com reports.

Law missed all of last season due to a forearm/elbow injury he originally suffered near the end of 2024. He underwent surgery to address the issue in July and will likely remain sidelined until midway through the 2026 campaign. The 35-year-old reliever turned in a 2.60 ERA over 90 innings with the Nationals during his most recent MLB season and could be a factor in Arizona's bullpen once he's cleared to play.

The Mariners designated Kowar (shoulder) for assignment Tuesday.

The 29-year-old righty will give up his place on Seattle's 40-man roster for Jhonny Pereda, who was acquired from the Twins on Tuesday. Kowar made 15 regular-season appearances for the Mariners in 2025 and finished the year with a 4.24 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 17 frames before a right shoulder impingement ended his season in mid-August.

The Twins traded Pereda to the Mariners on Tuesday in exchange for cash.

The Twins DFA'd Pereda on Friday after signing Victor Caratini, but the former will reclaim a 40-man roster spot now that he's been dealt to the M's. He won't take playing time away from Cal Raleigh, but Pereda could provide some quality organizational depth after slashing .308/.422/.465 across 192 Triple-A plate appearances last year.

Schmitt (wrist) has begun a hitting progression after getting cleared last week, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Schmitt estimated that the grip strength in his left hand is back to 95 percent. He first got hurt all the way back on June 25 and played through the injury throughout the second half of last season, finally having surgery in December.

Lee will move to right field after the Giants signed Harrison Bader to patrol center field, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Lee grades out as a negative defensive center fielder by most metrics, and Bader on the other hand grades out spectacularly, which is especially important at Oracle Park. Drew Gilbert and Jerar Encarnacion could lose out on playing time following the Bader signing.

The Nationals outrighted Lara to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

Lara was booted off the 40-man roster last week, but he will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 23-year-old held an 8.79 ERA and 10:8 K:BB over 14.1 innings with the Nationals and an 8.92 ERA and 26:22 K:BB across 36.1 frames with Rochester in 2025.
