Alvarado allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his sixth save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Hogan Harris worked the eighth inning against the top of the Toronto order, leaving Alvarado to face the heart of the lineup in the ninth, and the right-hander got the job done on 16 pitches (10 strikes). That duo will likely continue to split closing duties the rest of the way based on matchups and availability, but it's encouraging that Alvarado wasn't yanked from high-leverage work again after getting tagged for a run in each of his last three outings, and walking a batter in his last four. Since the beginning of August, Alvarado sports a 2.40 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB in 15 innings with one win, four saves and four holds.

The Giants claimed Davitt off waivers from Atlanta on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Davitt will now be a part of San Francisco's organization and will open his tenure with his new team in the minors with Triple-A Sacramento. Across two levels in the minors, Davitt has a 6.29 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 73 innings this year.

The Giants designated Bivens for assignment Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The move makes room on the Giants' 40-man roster for Duncan Davitt, who was claimed off waivers from Atlanta. Bivens has spent most of the 2026 season in Triple-A, where he has a 4.92 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 72:28 K:BB over 75 innings.

Basso didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Blue Jays, allowing three hits and two walks over four scoreless innings. He struck out four.

In his longest outing of the season, Basso fired 41 of 68 pitches for strikes as he got the combined shutout going. The southpaw appears to be getting stretched out to fill the fifth starter role for the A's, and over three September appearances he's dialed up a 1.93 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB in 9.1 innings. Basso will look to last long enough to qualify for a win in his next trip to the mound, which is set to come on the road next week in Tampa Bay.

Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners.

Seager cut the Rangers' deficit to 3-2 in the eighth inning with an opposite-field shot off lefty Gabe Speier to extend his homer streak to three games. Seager has now hit safely in six straight contests, going 8-for-25 (.320) with four long balls in that span. He's slashing .230/.325/.435 through 366 plate appearances this season with 17 homers, 51 runs scored and 40 RBI.

Lorenzen (3-12) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk over 2.2 innings of relief as the Blue Jays were downed 2-0 by the A's. He struck out two.

In a rare low-scoring affair at Sutter Health Park, the veteran righty was the only hurler to struggle in a bullpen day for Toronto. Taking the mound to begin the second inning after opener Braydon Fisher breezed through the first frame, Lorenzen blanked the home side in the second before serving up a solo shot to Henry Bolte in the third and bringing home Tommy White in the fourth on a wild pitch. Injuries have left the Jays without a fifth starter as they try to squeak into the final wild-card spot in the AL, but Lorenzen doesn't appear to be any sort of solution, even in a bulk relief role. Over four appearances and 8.2 innings for Toronto, he's served up three long balls and has stumbled to a 6.23 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 6:2 K:BB.

Bradford (0-5) took the loss Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out one.

Bradford gave up a run on a Taylor Ward two-out single in the second inning before Seattle added two more on a Cole Young double in the fourth. Bradford has failed to make it through six frames in any of his last five starts. His ERA now sits at 4.72 through seven outings (34.1 innings) this season with a 1.57 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB. Bradford is still looking to get into the win column, and he is tentatively slated to make his next start on the road in Arizona.

Lee went 0-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Twins.

Getting the start at second base and batting second, Lee did an effective job setting the table for the heart of Detroit's order. The rookie infielder is batting just .115 (3-for-26) in September, but he's drawn seven free passes and scored six runs in eight games. With the Tigers having fallen out of the wild-card picture, the 23-year-old will likely continue getting consistent playing time while bouncing between the keystone and the hot corner.

Holton (2-5) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the Twins. He struck out two.

The southpaw came on in relief after Keider Montero started the game and lasted four innings. The short start allowed Holton to earn just his second win of the season and first since June 1. He's pitched well out of Detroit's bullpen with a 2.74 ERA across 69 innings this year, and he's now rattled off eight straight scoreless appearances.

Munoz earned the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Texas, working around a walk while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

Munoz found himself in trouble in the ninth after issuing a walk to lead off the frame. After the runner advanced to second on a fielder's choice, Munoz proceeded to strike out the next two batters, stranding the tying run and logging his 26th save this season. The 27-year-old has been sharp of late, allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out 15 in his last nine innings. Overall, his ERA sits at 4.05 across 53.1 innings this year with a 1.14 WHIP and 85:21 K:BB.
