Nelson (elbow) struck out two and hit a batter over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Nelson threw 11 pitches (eight strikes) in his second rehab appearance and has struck out four over two scoreless and hitless innings. The one-time starter will operate as a reliever once he's activated from the injured list.

Gurriel entered Tuesday's game as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in a 5-3 extra-innings win over Kansas City.

After grounding out as a pinch hitter, Gurriel stayed in the game at designated hitter, replacing Lars Nootbaar. Gurriel eventually knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI triple in the top of the 11th inning. The 32-year-old, who was activated from the injured list at the beginning of the month but didn't start getting into the games until this week. is part of a mix vying for starts in left field or DH.

Tawa started in right field and went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in a 5-3 extra-innings win over the Royals.

Tawa was originally slotted in at first base but moved to right field after Corbin Carroll (back) was scratched. He smacked a solo home run in the ninth inning and knocked in another run in the 10th before the Diamondbacks won it in the 11th. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told Robert Falkoff of MLB.com that Carroll will likely be held out of Wednesday's game and then undergo an evaluation when the team returns home.

Miller (4-9) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering four runs on four hits and three walks over 3.2 innings against Texas. He struck out six.

The right-hander was scored upon in three of the four frames he pitched as he remains without a win in his past 10 outings. Miller has a 6.89 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 39:24 K:BB across 49.2 innings during that span and has also failed to last five frames in any of his past four starts. A road matchup versus the A's at hitter-friendly Sacramento is likely on tap for his next turn through the rotation.

Quantrill (8-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over six innings against the Mariners. He struck out four.

It's the fifth straight quality start for Quantrill, who has gone 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 28:3 K:BB across 32 innings during that span. He kept Seattle in check for most of Tuesday's outing, with Lazaro Montes' three-run homer accounting for all the damage against him. Quantrill next lines up to face the Diamondbacks on the road this weekend.

Perkins (3-11) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks over five-plus innings in a 4-2 defeat against Toronto. He struck out three.

The right-hander was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday but was quickly recalled and ended up retaining his rotation spot due to J.T. Ginn's (elbow) move to the injured list. Perkins limited Toronto to two runs through five frames, but he returned for the sixth and allowed the first two batters to reach before being pulled, with both of them coming around to score. Despite the lackluster result, it's notable that the 26-year-old didn't issue any free passes given that he issued at least four walks in each of his previous three outings. Assuming Perkins and his 6.50 ERA though 98.1 innings stick in the rotation, he tentatively lines up to face the Rays on the road next week.

McLain went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

McLain has hit safely in four of his last five games, but he hasn't had a multi-hit effort over his last 18 contests. In that span, he has gone just 9-for-65 (.138) with two steals, four home runs and 10 RBI. The infielder is batting .189 with a .630 OPS, 15 home runs, 17 steals, 39 RBI, 54 runs scored and 17 doubles over 121 contests this season.

De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

De La Cruz supplied the Reds' runs when he took Tarik Skubal deep in the third inning. This was De La Cruz's fourth straight game with a homer and his sixth consecutive multi-hit effort, with the power surge getting him to 25 long balls on the year. The shortstop is batting .283 with an .868 OPS, 69 RBI, 88 runs scored, 26 doubles, five triples and 25 stolen bases. With one more homer this season, he'll set a career high.

Lodolo (3-4) allowed three runs on five hits, three walks and two hit batsmen while striking out six over 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers.

Lodolo wasn't able to dial in Tuesday, throwing just 54 of 97 pitches for strikes. In six starts since he returned from a finger injury, he's allowed 19 runs over 27 innings with a 25:11 K:BB and five hit batsmen. Plunkings have been a problem for Lodolo -- he's tied for fourth in the majors with 14 hit batsmen despite tossing the second-fewest innings among the top-10 pitchers in that area. Overall, Lodolo has struggled to a 5.12 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 75:38 K:BB through 89.2 innings this season. His next start is projected to be a rematch at home versus the Dodgers early next week.

Miles picked up the save Tuesday against the A's, striking out three over two perfect innings.

Blue Jays closer Louis Varland threw 24 pitches in Monday's series opener, so it was Miles that stayed in for the ninth inning Tuesday after firing a clean eighth. It's the second save of the season for the rookie right-hander, who has made 45 appearances (six starts) this year and has excelled as a versatile arm with a 2.77 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 81:21 K:BB over 87.2 innings. Miles hasn't given up a run in his past 12 outings and has allowed just seven hits and one walk during that span.
