Altuve is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Altuve will head to the bench for the first time since June 28, ending a streak of 17 consecutive starts. Nick Allen will fill in for Altuve at the keystone in the series finale.

Giolito (elbow) has been throwing at San Diego's team complex in Arizona and may be close to facing hitters, MLB.com reports.

Giolito has been sidelined for the past month due to right elbow inflammation. The veteran hurler resumed throwing in late June and has progressed enough to potentially toss a live session soon. Giolito will likely need a minor-league rehab assignment before he's ready to return to the Padres, so it seems unlikely that he'll be back with the big club before the start of August.

Wong isn't in the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Baltimore.

After going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during Boston's matinee victory, Wong will get a chance to rest his legs during Game 2. Carlos Narvaez will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

Pederson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

The Rangers will keep Pederson on the bench for the second day in a row while the White Sox send another lefty starter (Anthony Kay) to the bump. Wyatt Langford will replace Pederson as the Rangers' designated hitter and leadoff batter.

Carter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

The left-handed-hitting Carter will hit the bench for the second straight game while the Rangers face off against another lefty starter (Anthony Kay) in the series finale. Platoon mate Cam Cauley will check in for Carter in center field and will bat sixth.

Davis is not in the Pirates' starting lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Davis struck out in all three of his plate appearances in Wednesday's matinee -- a 5-3 extra-inning win for Pittsburgh -- and will be idle for the nightcap. Rafael Flores will start behind home plate and bat eighth while forming a battery with Bubba Chandler.

The Yankees optioned Castro to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Castro struck out the only two batters he faced during New York's loss in the first half of Wednesday's twin bill against Pittsburgh, but he'll now end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room for Max Fried's (elbow) return from the IL. Castro boasts a 2.39 ERA and 0.88 WHIP across 26.1 innings in the minors, so he could soon get another opportunity with the Yankees if his performance holds at Triple-A.

The Blue Jays placed Clase on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to left foot plantar fasciitis.

Toronto called up Yohendrick Pinango from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, and he'll take Clase's spot in left field and will bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Rays. According to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca, Clase's foot issue first surfaced Tuesday, when he developed discomfort during pregame running work and was scratched from the lineup. Clase has a history of contending with plantar fasciitis, so it wouldn't be surprising if his stint on the IL last beyond the minimum 10 days.

The Yankees reinstated Fried (elbow) from the injured list for his start against the Pirates in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Fried has been on the injured list since mid-May due to a bone bruise in his left elbow. He was originally scheduled to make a second rehab start Wednesday, but the Yankees will bring him back to the rotation early to start the final game of the twin bill. The 32-year-old southpaw was expected to throw about 60 pitches in his rehab start, so New York will likely place a similar ceiling on his pitch count as he makes his first MLB start in over two months. Kervin Castro was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Taveras is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Red Sox, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Taveras will head to the bench for the nightcap after he made his third consecutive start in the outfield in the Orioles' 6-3 loss earlier in the day. With Samuel Basallo (shoulder) joining Adley Rutschman (wrist) on the injured list, the Orioles are expected to use a rotation of players at designated hitter for the time being, which could in turn clear the way for Taveras to pick up semi-regular reps in the outfield.
