  • Rays' Victor Mesa: On bench versus lefty

Mesa is not the in the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Dodgers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mesa will take a seat as the Rays face left-hander Justin Wrobleski on the mound for Los Angeles. Austin Slater will handle right field, batting second against the Dodgers.

  • Rays' Cedric Mullins: Sitting versus southpaw

Mullins is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mullins will head to the bench as the Rays take on left-hander Justin Wrobleski on the bump for Los Angeles. Chandler Simpson will slide over to center field while Ryan Vilade enters the lineup in left field, batting fifth versus the Dodgers.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: On bench versus lefty

Palacios is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Palacios will head to the bench as Tampa Bay squares off with southpaw Justin Wrobleski. Ben Williamson will take over at second base and bat sixth versus Los Angeles.

  • Luis Castillo SP | SEA

Mariners' Luis Castillo: Part of pitching tandem Friday

Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday that Castillo will work in relief behind starter Bryce Miller during Friday's game against the Red Sox as part of a piggyback arrangement, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Castillo and Miller made standalone starts in both of their last two appearances, but the two will shift back into a tandem setup Friday. They previously worked in a piggyback arrangement on three occasions back in May, with Miller covering between five and 5.2 frames in those games and Castillo ranging between 2.1 and five innings. According to Hollander, the Mariners plan to condense their rotation to five through the All-Star break, with all six of their starters rotating through and being part of at least one piggyback game over the next month. Hollander noted that it was merely a coincidence that the new staff-wide piggyback plan is beginning with Miller and Castillo, so both are expected to be separated and make traditional starts when their turn in the pitching schedule comes up again next week.

  • Rays' Hunter Feduccia: Sitting Tuesday

Feduccia is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Feduccia will take a seat for the second straight day as the Rays face southpaw Justin Wrobleski on the mound. Nick Fortes will draw the start at catcher and bat eighth against Los Angeles.

  • Diamondbacks' LuJames Groover: In lineup, but likely to lose PT

Groover will start at designated hitter and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Angels.

Though he'll crack the starting nine Tuesday while southpaw Reid Detmers is on the bump for the Angels, Groover appears likely to lose out on regular playing time against right-handed pitching. After Lourdes Gurriel's recent return from the injured list, Arizona has a bit of a logjam in the corner-outfield spots and designated hitter, which has resulted in Pavin Smith drawing starts at first base over Groover in the Diamondbacks' last two matchups with righties. Smith and Groover could continue to work in a quasi-platoon for the time being, but Groover may be at risk of a demotion to Triple-A Reno once Max Kepler (suspension) is eligible to make his Arizona debut June 25. Since being called up from Triple-A earlier this month, Groover has gone 5-for-25 (.200 average) with no extra-base hits, two RBI and one run through his first seven games.

  • Oswald Peraza 2B | LAA

Angels' Oswald Peraza: Riding pine Tuesday

Peraza isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Arizona, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Peraza will move to the bench Tuesday after going 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in Monday's series opener. Nick Madrigal will take over as the Angels' second baseman and bat fifth.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Returning Sunday

Verlander (hip) will return from the injured list to start Sunday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Verlander threw 66 pitches in a four-inning sim game Monday without any problems, so the Tigers will allow him to return from the IL over the weekend and make his first start since March 30. The 43-year-old posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 10.2 frames during his rehab assignment at Triple-A, but he was lit up for five earned runs in just 3.2 innings during his lone MLB outing this season and is set to return against a White Sox offense that's posted a .777 OPS since the beginning of June.

  • Luke Raley RF | SEA

Mariners' Luke Raley: Left out of lineup versus righty

Raley is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

The Mariners often hold the left-handed-hitting Raley out of the lineup against southpaws, but he'll take a seat Tuesday with right-hander Brandon Young on the bump for Baltimore. Victor Robles will pick up a start in left field in place of Raley, who has gone just 2-for-21 at the dish over his last six games to bring his average down to .241 for the season.

  • Mariners' Randy Arozarena: Won't start Tuesday

Arozarena (hamstring) isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Although Arozarena is set to miss a third straight start due to left hamstring soreness, general manager Justin Hollander said the 31-year-old could be available off the bench Tuesday and is likely to return to the starting nine Wednesday. In the meantime, Victor Robles, Julio Rodriguez and Dominic Canzone will form Seattle's outfield trio.
