The Nationals released Fernandez (undisclosed) on Wednesday.

Fernandez had been booted from the 40-man roster last week and has now been cut loose after clearing waivers. The righty had been on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Rochester with an undisclosed injury, and it's unclear when he might be ready to pitch again.

Matthews is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Matthews will move to the bench after he had made three starts in the outfield and one at second base over the last four games while going a collective 3-for-13 with a pair of extra-base knocks. The Astros should continue to make room for Matthews in the lineup when they face left-handed pitching, but his opportunities to play against righties may become more sporadic now that Houston has all its key hitters back from the injured list except for Carlos Correa (ankle), who is out for the season.

Caballero went 2-for-4 with a home run and two total RBI in Wednesday's 12-2 victory versus the White Sox.

Caballero plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning and capped the scoring in the contest with a solo blast to left field in the eighth. It was the second straight game with a long ball for Caballero, who has flexed his power more than ever this season -- through 60 contests, he's gone deep seven times, putting him near the career-high mark of nine home runs he clubbed across 139 regular-season games in 2024. Caballero has added 15 thefts and a .263/.315/.419 slash line this season, giving him plenty of fantasy value with eligibility at multiple positions.

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the White Sox.

Goldschmidt hit one of four Yankees homers in the big win, ripping a two-run shot to left field in the fourth inning. The veteran slugger has helped keep New York's offense humming even without Giancarlo Stanton (calf) and Aaron Judge (ribs), as Goldschmidt's .913 OPS through 46 games ranks second on the club behind only Ben Rice. Goldschmidt has been even better since Judge went down, posting a 1.056 OPS with four homers, 14 RBI and one stolen base over 12 contests this month.

Outman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Outman drew starts in center field in the first two games of the series, but after going 0-for-6 with five strikeouts between those contests, he'll hit the bench for the finale. Matt Vierling will take Outman's spot in the Detroit outfield and will bat seventh.

McKinstry is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

McKinstry will get the afternoon off after he went 5-for-25 with a solo home run, four walks and four additional runs while starting seven of the Tigers' last eight games. Though he appears to have a grasp on a near-everyday role for now, McKinstry's playing time could dry up if he continues to underwhelm at the plate. He's produced a .168/.258/.245 slash line over 165 plate appearances on the season.

Rogers will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Rogers will enter the starting nine for the series finale while the Tigers give top backstop Dillon Dingler a break from catching but keep his bat in the lineup at designated hitter. With Dingler handling one of the heavier workloads among all catchers this season, Rogers has been limited to just 68 plate appearances through Detroit's first 73 games.

The Astros will skip Burrows' next turn in the rotation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Burrows has been tagged for 16 runs (13 earned) while serving up five home runs over 15 innings covering his last three starts. He's posted a 5.86 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 14 outings this season. Burrows will be available out of the bullpen this weekend, and the righty indicated he plans to piggyback behind Tatsuya Imai on Friday night against the Guardians. While Burrows could rejoin the rotation next week, his role is tenuous due to Cristian Javier (shoulder) being due back soon.

Mead went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Royals.

The 25-year-old infielder produced the game's deciding runs when he took Daniel Lynch deep in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie. Mead still isn't stringing together hits consistently, but over his last 20 games he's slashing .239/.325/.521 with six of his 11 long balls on the season, along with 12 runs and 17 RBI while emerging as the Nationals' starting third baseman.

Mahle (hamstring) allowed one earned run on one hit and five walks while striking out three over three innings in Triple-A Sacramento's 10-1 win over Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Mahle hasn't played in the big leagues since May 26 after landing on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, but he's progressing toward a return to San Francisco. The veteran right-hander struggled with his command Tuesday, issuing five walks while throwing 33 of his 63 pitches for strikes, though he limited the damage to just one run. Before going on the IL, the 31-year-old posted a 6.04 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 57:24 K:BB across 56.2 innings in 11 starts.
