  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

    Royals' Adam Frazier: Sitting Sunday

Frazier is absent from Sunday's lineup against Atlanta.

Barring a pinch-hit appearance Sunday, Frazier will end the regular season having slashed .202/.282/.294 with four home runs and 22 RBI over 294 plate appearances. Hunter Renfroe will start in right field and bat sixth.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Absent from lineup

Perez is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Freddy Fermin will start behind home plate and bat seventh in the Royals' regular-season finale. Unless Perez comes in to pinch hit Sunday, he'll end the regular season with a slash line of .271/.330/.456 with 27 home runs and 104 RBI across 651 plate appearances.

  • Shawn Dubin RP | HOU

Astros' Shawn Dubin: Sent to minors

Dubin was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.

Dubin logged a 4.17 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 49 strikeouts, two saves and one win in 45.1 innings for the big club this year. He pitched a clean ninth inning with two strikeouts and a save Saturday, so Dubin may have been optioned simply because he wasn't going to be used Sunday.

  • Buddy Kennedy 3B | PHI

Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Back in majors

Kennedy was recalled from the Phillies' spring training complex Sunday.

He is not in Sunday's lineup against the Nationals, but Kennedy will serve as a capable righty bench bat with Austin Hays (back) banged up. Kennedy, who turns 26 next week, has played sparingly in the majors and slashed .294/.400/.500 with 10 home runs in 300 plate appearances for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

  • Gavin Sheets RF | CHW

White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Out for regular-season finale

Sheets is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Tigers.

Unless he pinch hits Sunday, Sheets will end the season with a slash line of .233/.303/.357 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI across 501 plate appearances. Bryan Ramos will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.

  • Matt Waldron SP | SD

Padres' Matt Waldron: Recalled from Triple-A

Waldron was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

Waldron will serve as fresh arm capable of logging multiple innings of relief Sunday following starter Martin Perez. Waldron, who is known best for his knuckleball, logged a 4.79 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 130 strikeouts in 142.2 innings through 26 MLB starts this year.

  • Padres' Randy Vasquez: Sent to Triple-A

Vasquez was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

Vasquez had arguably his best start of the season Saturday in Arizona, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out four over six scoreless innings. He'll presumably compete for a rotation spot next spring, but it's not clear if he'll have a role on the Padres' postseason roster. Matt Waldron was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Back in lineup

Alvarez (back) is starting at catcher and batting eighth for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Alvarez left Friday's game against Milwaukee due to back spasms. That kept him out of Saturday's lineup, though he did manage to pinch hit for Luis Torrens in the top of the eighth inning. Since Sept. 1, Alvarez has slashed .231/.355/.538 with five home runs and 14 RBI over 62 plate appearances.

  • Zach Penrod SP | BOS

Red Sox's Zach Penrod: Sent down Sunday

Penrod was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

The 27-year-old lefty split the majority of his season between Double-A and Triple-A, establishing himself as a fringe prospect despite his age. Control was an issue for Penrod at Triple-A (16.1 percent walk rate), and he walked four batters in four innings while up with the big club.

  • Quinn Priester SP | BOS

Red Sox's Quinn Priester: Recalled ahead of start

Priester was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday ahead of his start against the Rays.

Priester will be making his Red Sox debut, as he last pitched in the majors July 27 as a member of the Pirates before getting traded to Boston two days later for Nick Yorke. Priester gave up eight runs in his first start for Worcester, but he has a 3.75 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 36 innings over his last eight starts. He'll likely have a chance to compete for a big-league rotation spot in the spring.
