Deshaun Watson QB | CLE
Texans' Deshaun Watson: Absent again
Watson didn't practice Tuesday and isn't expected to travel with the Texans for Saturday's preseason game in Dallas, ESPN's Sarah Barshop reports.
Coach David Culley attributed Watson's absence from Monday's practice to a schedule change, but the Texans got back to their routine Tuesday and the quarterback still wasn't on the field. Between his trade request and legal situation, Watson may not have a future in Houston and doesn't seem to be part of the plan for Week 1. He's been in and out of practice throughout training camp, doing very little even when he's technically been a participant.

Deshaun Watson QB | CLE
Texans' Deshaun Watson: Doesn't practice Monday
Watson did not participate in Monday's practice, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The daily Watson watch continues. The quarterback, who did not travel with the team for Saturday's preseason opener in Green Bay, received treatment for his ankle and calf while attending team meetings indoors. He had been a presence for all four practices last week after a weeklong absence. "Nothing has changed from last week," Texans coach David Culley said Monday morning. "We're not going to talk about what we do in personnel each day in practice." The Texans are expected to trade Watson, an event many believe hinges upon the pending legal matters facing the quarterback.

Case Cookus QB | NYG
Case Cookus: Cut by Raiders
Cookus was waived by the Raiders on Monday.
With Nathan Peterman seemingly locked in at No. 3 behind starter Derek Carr and backup Marcus Mariota at quarterback, Cookus was a likely candidate to be cut as the Raiders trimmed their roster down to 85. The journeyman will now look for a new opportunity.

Dak Prescott QB | DAL
Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Iffy to play in preseason
Coach Mike McCarthy said that if Prescott (shoulder) is unable to play Saturday against the Texans, he won't suit up in the preseason, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Prescott is slated to be a limited participant in his return to practice, which will equate to QB drills and not much more as the Cowboys exercise caution with their franchise quarterback. He'll thus be held out of all 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 work Monday, just two days removed from getting good news from an MRI. Prescott is healing well from the latissimus strain he picked up in his right throwing shoulder during a July 28 practice, which has overshadowed his completed recovery from last season's gruesome right ankle injury. If Dallas ultimately keeps him on the sideline during the exhibition season, he'll aim to be under center Thursday, Sept. 9 for the opener at Tampa Bay.

Joe Burrow QB | CIN
Bengals' Joe Burrow: Won't face Washington
Coach Zac Taylor said Monday that Burrow will not suit up for Friday's preseason game against Washington, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
Burrow has not been ruled out for the entirety of the preseason, but he'll at least miss the Bengals' second exhibition contest. It's reasonable for the team to take a cautious approach to Burrow's return to game action, given the severity of the injury he's working his way back from. Cincinnati's offense has regularly struggled with Burrow under center during the early portion of training camp, and though the franchise quarterback may not yet have regained full confidence in his knee, all indications are that he remains on track for Week 1.

Justin Fields QB | KC
Bears' Justin Fields: Could get first-team reps soon
Coach Matt Nagy suggested Monday that Fields will start to get more reps with WR Allen Robinson and other starters, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
Nagy hasn't backed off on naming Andy Dalton his starter, but the coach at least will help his rookie first-round pick prepare for the inevitable takeover. Fields initially struggled in his preseason debut Saturday against Miami, but he followed three straight three-and-outs with three consecutive scoring drives to salvage the day. While he may get some first-team reps soon, Fields reportedly continued his work with the second unit at Monday's practice.

Jordan Love QB | GB
Packers' Jordan Love: Will not practice Monday
Love (shoulder) will not practice Monday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Love injured his shoulder in the Packers' exhibition opener, and although head coach Matt LaFleur said Love is "feeling a lot better," he also noted that the Packers are "going to be smart" and give Love some time to recover. Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Benkert are slated to share the reps until Love returns, but LaFleur noted that the Packers are planning to bring in some other quarterbacks for workouts to increase the options should Love's injury linger.

Trace McSorley QB | WAS
Ravens' Trace McSorley: Out for rest of preseason
McSorley (back) will miss the rest of the preseason, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Coach John Harbaugh expects McSorley to miss a few weeks after he was bothered by back spasms in Saturday's preseason win over New Orleans. McSorley got the start with Lamar Jackson held out, completing 11 of 18 passes for 86 yards and an interception (plus four carries for 25 yards). The Ravens have been carrying only three quarterbacks for the past week, but they re-signed Kenji Bahar on Monday after learning that McSorley would miss some time. If healthy, McSorley remains the favorite to serve as Jackson's backup this season, though Tyler Huntley hopes to make a contest of it.

Trevor Lawrence QB | JAC
Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Starting again next week?
Coach Urban Meyer said Monday that there's a "decent chance" Lawrence starts the Jaguars' second preseason game next Monday at New Orleans, Mark Long of the Associated Press reports.
Lawrence started the preseason opener and completed six of nine passes for 71 yards, though he failed to produce any points on three drives, limited by sacks (two for 12 yards) and poor field position. Fellow Jags QB Gardner Minshew also failed to score on three drives, completing four of seven passes for 47 yards before he was intercepted on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half. Minshew has been getting some first-team reps in practice and is said by Meyer to be competing for the starting job, but Lawrence remains an overwhelming favorite for the Week 1 nod, and he could see extended playing time in the second exhibition on Monday Night Football.

Will Grier QB | CAR
Panthers' Will Grier: Plays second half
Grier played the second half of Sunday's 21-18 preseason loss to the Colts, completing 6 of 10 passes for 31 yards.
Grier watched P.J. Walker start for the Panthers and finish with 161 passing yards and a touchdown in the first half. Walker also left with Carolina winning the game, only for Grier and the team's reserves to muster just three second-half points. As it stands, Grier seems firmly behind Walker on the depth chart but has two more preseason outings to push to become Sam Darnold's backup.
