Rodgers (knee) didn't participate in the open portion of Wednesday's practice, Michael Cohen of The Athletic reports.

Rodgers is maintaining his practice regimen from past weeks to avoid putting any undue pressure on his left knee. Assuming he upholds that standard, he likely will log a full session Thursday, when the Packers typically put in their most on-field work in a given week.

Tannehill (shoulder) wasn't seen throwing during the portion of Wednesday's practice open to the media, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

Though Tannehill's status for Sunday's game against the Jets hasn't been cemented, the fact that he's not yet throwing in practice doesn't bode well for his chances of returning from a three-game absence. Assuming Tannehill again remains unavailable, Brock Osweiler would get another nod at quarterback for Miami.

The Bills signed Barkley to a one-year contract Wednesday, Chris Brown of the team's official site reports.

Barkley will give the Bills some healthy depth at quarterback with Josh Allen (elbow) and Derek Anderson (concussion) both battling injuries. The Bills have indicated that Nathan Peterman will likely serve as their starting quarterback for Sunday's matchup with the Bears, while Allen has been ruled out for another week. If Anderson is unable to clear the NFL's concussion protocol by the weekend, Barkley would step in as the backup to Peterman, despite having only a brief period to familiarize himself with the team's playbook. Barkley will be a candidate for release once one or both of Allen and Anderson are back to full strength.

Beathard acknowledged Wednesday that his right wrist and thumb "are kind of messed up," casting some doubt on his availability for Thursday's game against the Raiders, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Coach Kyle Shanahan indicated Tuesday that Beathard's two injuries have affected the quarterback's ability to grip the football. It appears the second-year signal-caller hasn't demonstrated much progress a day later. The 49ers should provide an update on Beathard's condition as well as an official injury designation for the game following Wednesday's practice, but it's looking more and more likely that the 23-year-old will be sidelined for Week 9. If that's the case, Nick Mullens would likely pick up the start in what would amount to his first meaningful NFL action, while veteran Tom Savage would be on hand as the No. 2 quarterback.

Mariota has regained feeling in his hand and is no longer practicing with a glove, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports.

Mariota has been a disappointment through the first half of the season, throwing for only three touchdowns while being picked off five times. However, the improved health of his hand provides reason for optimism that his performance will improve as the season progresses. Coming off a bye week, Mariota specifically cited improved red-zone efficiency as a key to improving what has been an abysmal Titans offense through seven games. He'll draw a tough matchup on Monday night against the Cowboys.

Jackson completed four of five passes for 46 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers and added three rushes for 26 yards.

Jackson took the reins of the offense on Baltimore's last series with the game well out of reach. He looked comfortable on that drive, completing all four of his passes including a 26-yard touchdown to fellow rookie Hayden Hurst. Jackson's one miss of the day came in the first quarter when he missed an open Willie Snead down the sideline. It doesn't appear that Baltimore is ready to turn the keys over to Jackson on meaningful drives just yet, but the team does want to get him some experience as a passer when possible. Jackson figures to have a minor role in the Baltimore offense Sunday against the Steelers.

Peterman is expected to serve as the Bills' starting quarterback Sunday against the Bears, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

With Josh Allen (elbow) sidelined for another week and Derek Anderson embedded in the concussion protocol and uncertain to be available Sunday, it appears the keys to the offense will now be in Peterman's hands once again. The second-year signal-caller relieved Anderson with about a minute left in the fourth quarter of Monday's loss to the Patriots, completing both of his pass attempts against soft coverage before the final whistle sounded. Peterman has been notoriously turnover-prone in his NFL action to date and won't make for an appealing fantasy option in Week 9 while matching up with a quality Bears defense.

Coach Sean McDermott has already ruled out Allen (elbow) for this week's game against the Bears, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Given the team's 2-6 record and the awful play of Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman subbing in, this would have been the perfect no-pressure game to insert the rookie back into the lineup, but his long-term health will take priority here. Allen's next chance to play will come in Week 10 against the Jets, while it's worth noting if the team really wants to play it safe, the Bills have their bye in Week 11.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mullens will start Thursday versus the Raiders if C.J. Beathard (wrist) is unable to play, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

After Beathard was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report, he had trouble holding a football Tuesday as a result of a sore right wrist. With no practice yet this week, his status could come down to a game-time decision Thursday. In the event Beathard is inactive, Mullens and his zero NFL snaps would be given the nod over veteran third-stringer Tom Savage.
