  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Surgery not deemed necessary

Coach Adam Gase said Thursday that Tannehill won't require surgery to address what's believed to be a sprained AC joint in the quarterback's right shoulder, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Tannehill's injury has prompted the Dolphins to rule him out for a second straight game Sunday against the Lions, but it appears the club is optimistic he'll avoid a long-term absence. The Dolphins haven't prescribed rest for Tannehill to address the injury -- he was listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday for the second straight day -- but his return action probably shouldn't be considered forthcoming until he resumes throwing. According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Tannehill was on the field for the open portion of Thursday's practice, but wasn't allowed to lift his right arm to even mimic a throwing motion when he took snaps. Per Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald, Gase relayed later that Tannehill "could throw tomorrow if he wanted to," but it's clear the Dolphins intend to proceed carefully with the signal-caller. Brock Osweiler will be back under center in place of Tannehill in Week 7.

  • Jameis Winston QB | NYG

Buccaneers' Jameis Winston: Full practice despite hip issue

Winston was designated with a hip injury on Wednesday's practice report but still turned in a full session, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.

The designation is likely due to just some residual soreness that Winston picked up during his 2018 starting debut against the Falcons last Sunday, as the Buccaneers have not issued any other statements regarding the matter. Winston is fully expected to be available for Sunday's Week 7 tilt against the Browns after throwing for 395 yards and four touchdowns in a losing cause versus Atlanta.

  • Deshaun Watson QB | CLE

Texans' Deshaun Watson: Practices fully Wednesday

Watson (chest) was a full participant at Wednesday's practice.

There was some concern when Watson was listed as a limited participant all of last week, and he ultimately ended up playing and struggling through his worst game of the season in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Bills. A return to full participation suggests he made it through the rough outing without any physical setbacks, but Watson could be in for another tough afternoon when the Jaguars host the Texans in Week 7. For what it's worth, Watson mentioned Wednesday that he feels much better than he did at the same point last week, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com.

  • Browns' Baker Mayfield: Not listed on injury report

Mayfield (ankle) isn't listed on the Browns' initial injury report ahead of Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.

Mayfield had a sore ankle after the 38-14 loss to the Chargers in Week 6, but it apparently isn't serious enough to warrant mention on the injury report. He'll look to bounce back in a prime matchup, facing a Buccaneers defense that ranks dead last in passing yards allowed per game (356) and per attempt (9.3) this season. The Bucs did fire defensive coordinator Mike Smith on Monday, but they still have major personnel deficiencies in the secondary.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Ruled out for Week 7

Tannehill (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Lions, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.

Tannehill popped up on the injury report late last week and ultimately was ruled out in advance of Sunday's 31-28 overtime win over Chicago. He then took the field for practice Wednesday, but the Dolphins apparently weren't encouraged by his progress, or lack thereof. Tannehill is in serious danger of missing three consecutive games, as the Dolphins will travel to Houston in Week 8 for a Thursday night game. Brock Osweiler will get at least one more start while Tannehill recovers from what's believed to be an AC joint sprain. Coach Adam Gase acknowledged Wednesday that Tannehill is still too sore to throw passes, per Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: At practice, but not throwing

Tannehill (shoulder) was on the field for the start of practice Wednesday, but wasn't seen throwing during drills, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

Tannehill's practice limitations Wednesday confirm that he remains in the day-to-day category as Sunday's game against the Lions approaches. If he's unable to play this weekend, Brock Osweiler -- who racked up 380 passing yards in the Week 6 overtime win over the Bears -- would be in line to draw another start at quarterback.

  • Bills' Nathan Peterman: Bypassed for starting nod

Peterman will remain in a backup role Sunday against the Colts with coach Sean McDermott announcing that Derek Anderson would start at quarterback in place of the injured Josh Allen (elbow), Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports.

After Peterman tossed two interceptions -- including one that was returned for a touchdown -- in relief of Allen during the Bills' Week 6 loss to the Texans, McDermott couldn't justify turning the starting job back over to the second-year signal-caller. Peterman has struggled mightily across his six career regular-season appearances, completing just 44.3 percent of his passes while throwing for three scores and nine picks. Even though Allen is considered week-to-week and seems likely to miss multiple games, the Bills will hand the keys to the offense over to the 35-year-old Anderson, who doesn't fit into the team's long-term plans but should provide more stability behind center than Peterman.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

Bills' Josh Allen: Officially out for Week 7

Coach Sean McDermott announced that Allen (elbow) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Colts and is considered week-to-week, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

McDermott also relayed that veteran Derek Anderson would take over as the team's starting quarterback in place of Allen, who has been diagnosed with a right elbow sprain but won't require surgery at this time. Allen likely will be withheld from practice this week and treat the injury through rest and rehab, with the hope of returning to action after missing only two or three games. Nathan Peterman will serve as Anderson's backup while the rookie is sidelined.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

Bills' Josh Allen: Expected to sit out 2-to-3 games

Allen (elbow) is expected to miss 2-to-3 games, after which he'll be considered "week-to-week," Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.

Although Tommy John surgery isn't an option after Dr. James Andrews reviewed an MRI of Allen's right elbow, he'll need a few games to rest and rehab before the Bills will ponder the notion of trotting him out there on gamedays. Without Allen, there's a bit of a quarterback quandary in Buffalo. Nathan Peterman has the most experience with the current coaching staff and its playbook, but his turnover-prone ways have not diminished, with two interceptions in both of his appearances this season. Meanwhile, veteran Derek Anderson has 47 career starts to his name but only signed with the Bills last Tuesday.

  • Tom Savage QB | DET

49ers' Tom Savage: Officially signs with San Francisco

Savage signed a contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, Jordan Schultz of ESPN reports.

After a few weeks with just two quarterbacks on their active roster, the 49ers, as expected, will add the journeyman Savage to bolster the depth at the position. C.J. Beathard has shown enough in relief of Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) to validate his spot as the starter for the remainder of the season, but it remains yet to be seen whether Savage will operate as the backup or the No. 3 option behind Nick Mullens.
