Russell Wilson QB | NYG
Giants' Russell Wilson: Accurate in preseason opener
Wilson completed six of seven passes for 28 yards in Saturday's 34-25 preseason win over the Bills.
The veteran quarterback got the start in the Giants' first preseason contest but played only one drive, keeping the ball moving with short passes to his running backs and tight ends to set up a 53-yard Graham Gano field goal. Wilson's reluctance to stretch the field may have been part of a vanilla game plan, but it likely also had something to do with the absence of Malik Nabers (shoulder), Darius Slayton (undisclosed) and Jalin Hyatt from the lineup. It's not clear how much the Giants plan to use Wilson the rest of the preseason, so he may not get any opportunities to build a rapport with Nabers in game action before a Week 1 clash with the Commanders.

Anthony Richardson QB | IND
Colts' Anthony Richardson: Practicing Saturday
Richardson (finger) participated in practice Saturday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
This was the expectation for Richardson, who sustained a dislocated right pinkie finger during Thursday night's preseason opener, but we'll await further reports detailing the QB's level of activity during Saturday's session. Either way, the fact that he's already back on the field and throwing is a good sign for the 2023 first-rounder, who is competing with fellow signal-caller Daniel Jones for the Colts' Week 1 starting assignment.

C.J. Stroud QB | HOU
Texans' C.J. Stroud: Not on track to start Saturday
Stroud is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
With the Texans resting a number of starters Saturday, Davis Mills will start at QB in place of Stroud. The third-year signal-caller's next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 16 against the Panthers.

J.J. McCarthy QB | MIN
Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Set to play Saturday
McCarthy is slated to start Saturday's preseason opener against the Texans, Steven Louis Goldstein of The Athletic reports.
This will mark McCarthy's first game action since he tore the meniscus in his right knee in his first NFL preseason contest last year. With Sam Darnold no longer in the mix, the 2024 first-rounder is on track to begin the coming campaign as the Vikings' starting QB. As for Saturday, it remains to be seen how many snaps McCarthy will see, but for context, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com notes that Darnold played the first series of the 2024 preseason opener, 12 snaps in total, before giving way to McCarthy.

Davis Mills QB | HOU
Texans' Davis Mills: Expected starter Saturday
Mills is expected to draw the start in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
If that is indeed the case, top QB C.J. Stroud would presumably be rested, with Graham Mertz and Kedon Slovis also available to handle snaps versus Minnesota. As the coming season approaches, Mills is set to reprise his role as Houston's No. 2 signal caller.

Jimmy Garoppolo QB | LAR
Rams' Jimmy Garoppolo: Likely to sit Saturday
Garoppolo is not in line to play in the Rams' preseason opener against the Cowboys on Saturday, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
With Matthew Stafford sidelined due to an aggravated disc in his back, Garoppolo has been handling most of the first-team reps throughout training camp. Klein relays that head coach Sean McVay typically doesn't play starters and other significant players during preseason games, so Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn would be in line to take snaps under center Saturday if Garoppolo is indeed sidelined.

Anthony Richardson QB | IND
Colts' Anthony Richardson: On track to practice Saturday
Richardson (finger) plans to practice Saturday, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.
During Thursday's preseason opener, the QB sustained a dislocated right pinkie, but following the Colts' scheduled day off Friday, Richardson is poised to practice Saturday. It remains to be seen if Richardson handles a full workload during the session, but prior to his finger issue, he had been sharing reps pretty evenly with Daniel Jones in a signal-caller competition that may not be settled until after the preseason, per coach Shane Steichen.

Russell Wilson QB | NYG
Giants' Russell Wilson: In line to start Saturday
Wilson is slated to start Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills, Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com reports.
Per Stapleton , rookie QB Jaxson Dart is on track to see his share of snaps in his professional debut Saturday, with Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito also in the mix to see playing time versus Buffalo. At this stage, Wilson remains on track to be the Giants' starting signal caller in Week 1, when they face the Commanders on the road.

Bryce Young QB | CAR
Panthers' Bryce Young: Tosses TD in preseason opener
Young completed four of six passes for 58 yards and a touchdown during Friday's 30-10 preseason loss to the Browns.
The third-year quarterback got the start but only handled the Panthers' first two drives before handing things over to Andy Dalton. Young made an impact in his brief time on the field however, capping his final possession with a five-yard TD strike to Jalen Coker, a score set up by a 29-yard connection with rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan. Young showed signs of growth in 2024 after a disastrous rookie campaign, and Carolina is counting on the first overall pick in the 2023 Draft to take another big step forward with his development this season.

Kyle Allen QB | BUF
Lions' Kyle Allen: Perfect passer rating Friday
Allen completed seven of eight pass attempts for 120 yards and two touchdowns while taking two carries for 10 yards in Friday's preseason tilt in Atlanta.
Allen entered the contest with a little over five minutes left in the first half and proceeded to orchestrate three consecutive scoring drives. two of which resulted in touchdowns. Fellow backup Hendon Hooker started Friday's exhibition and produced little offensively while turning the ball over twice. Both signal-callers are vying to serve as Jared Goff's primary backup this upcoming season, with Allen having the clear early advantage based on performance and experience.
