  • Taysom Hill QB | NO

Saints' Taysom Hill: Plays rushing role Sunday

Hill rushed three times for four yards and failed to haul in his lone target during Sunday's 16-15 victory versus Tennessee.

Hill was utilized in his usual versatile role on both special teams and offense, including lining up at both quarterback and tight end. The 33-year-old did not attempt a pass while lined up in the shotgun Sunday; instead, he served as a change-of-pace rushing threat with running backs Alvin Kamara (suspension) and Kendre Miller (hamstring) both out. Hill took three direct snaps for rushing attempts during the second half, thus tying with starting quarterback Derek Carr for the Saints' second-most rushing attempts behind running back Jamaal Williams (18). Hill will likely continue to help pick up wherever he's needed most week-to-week in the Saints' offense, which could leave him with a bigger role in the running game until Kamara returns from suspension Week 4.

  • Rams' Matthew Stafford: Carries team to victory

Stafford completed 24 of 38 pass attempts for 334 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers in Sunday's 30-13 upset win over Seattle.

Stafford looked poised to prove that his rough 2022 campaign was due to poor health and not declining skill with this strong showing. The 35-year-old battled elbow and neck issues before landing on injured reserve last year, so Sunday's vintage performance sans Cooper Kupp (hamstring) is encouraging for his 2023 fantasy prospects. Stafford will get an opportunity to prove that he is truly back to form in a tough matchup against the 49ers on Sunday.

  • Jalen Hurts QB | PHI

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Manages Philly to win

Hurts completed 22 of 33 passes for 170 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 25-20 win over the Patriots. He added nine rushes for 37 yards while losing a fumble.

Hurts and the Eagles played through a steady rain in New England, leaving them limited in the passing attack. As a result, he mostly distributed the ball quickly and in the short areas of the field to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, allowing his talented pass catchers to gain yards after the catch. That's reflected in his stat line, as he averaged only 5.2 yards per attempt. Hurts should be in a better position to air the ball out in a Week 2 matchup against the Vikings.

  • Justin Herbert QB | LAC

Chargers' Justin Herbert: Unable to complete comeback

Herbert completed 23 of 33 pass attempts for 228 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 36-34 loss to the Dolphins. He also tallied five carries for 18 yards and another score.

Herbert seemed to make every critical throw when it mattered most, but the star quarterback couldn't do much on the team's final possession as the Dolphins sent the house and picked up multiple sacks to end a fourth-quarter comeback attempt. The electric signal caller didn't have to do too much in this contest, as the Chargers rushing attack combined for 234 yards on the ground, though Herbert hardly showed any rust, especially with his longtime target Keenan Allen (6-9-76 yards). He remains a top fantasy QB entering Week 2 against the Titans.

  • Tua Tagovailoa QB | ATL

Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Dominant in win over Chargers

Tagovailoa completed 28 of 45 passes for 466 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 36-34 win over the Chargers.

Miami came out with an aggressive gameplan and put the game in Tagovailoa's hands. He responded by effectively distributing the ball to his playmakers at wide receiver -- particularly Tyreek Hill. Tagovailoa also pushed the ball down the field plenty, as he completed eight passes of more than 20 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown strike to Hill late in the third quarter. Tagovailoa fell just short of his career high for yards in a game, as he threw for 469 yards in Week 2 of the 2022 season against Baltimore.

  • Jordan Love QB | GB

Packers' Jordan Love: Beats Bears with three TDs

Love completed 15 of 27 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 38-20 win over the Bears. He also rushed three times for 12 yards.

Love picked up where Aaron Rodgers left off by beating the Bears at Soldier Field. The Packers' new quarterback made many key throws on third down, including his opening touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs. Love also found Aaron Jones for a 35-yard score on a critical fourth down in the third quarter before capping his day with another red-zone TD to Doubs. Following his triumphant effort against Green Bay's oldest rival, Love will now hope to get top wideout Christian Watson (hamstring) back ahead of Week 2's trip to Atlanta.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Costly interception in loss

Fields completed 24 of 37 passes for 216 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 38-20 loss to the Packers. He also rushed nine times for 59 yards and lost a fumble.

Fields is still yet to beat the rival Packers, with his fourth-quarter interception that was returned for a touchdown effectively ending Sunday's contest. The signal caller also fumbled while attempting to run earlier in the game, continuing to struggle with ball security after committing 11 turnovers in 15 games last season. Although Fields led the Bears in rushing yards and found Darnell Mooney for a 20-yard touchdown through the air, it otherwise was a disappointing performance that indicated a lack of progress as a passer prior to Fields racking up some yards in garbage time.

  • Sam Howell QB | DAL

Commanders' Sam Howell: Accounts for two scores Sunday

Howell completed 19 of 31 passes for 202 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 20-16 win over the Cardinals. He added 11 rushing yards and a TD on two carries.

The second-year quarterback got sacked six times and lost a fumble that resulted in an Arizona touchdown, and a late hit from linebacker Kyzir White briefly knocked Howell out of the game in the first quarter, but he wound up getting his revenge early in the fourth when he put the Commanders ahead for good with a six-yard TD scramble. It wasn't the most auspicious start to the season for the Washington offense under new coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and Howell will face a potentially tough test in Week 2 on the road against Patrick Surtain and the Broncos.

  • Russell Wilson QB | NYG

Broncos' Russell Wilson: Mistake-free but quiet in loss

Wilson completed 27 of 34 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added one rush for one yard in the Broncos' 17-16 loss to the Raiders on Sunday.

Wilson's first full game running new head coach Sean Payton's scheme resulted in a largely unremarkable performance save for his pair of five-yard touchdown passes to Courtland Sutton and Lil'Jordan Humphrey. The veteran signal-caller's numbers were otherwise mostly indistinguishable and even less robust than many of his disappointing 2022 stat lines, and that the lackluster season-opening performance came against a vulnerable defense in that of the Raiders' adds to the fantasy-related concerns. However, the fact Wilson was without his presumptive No. 1 receiver in Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) certainly played a part in his modest numbers, and he'll have an opportunity to up his production in a Week 2 home matchup versus the Commanders.

  • Trey Lance QB | LAC

Cowboys' Trey Lance: Inactive, but acting as emergency QB

Lance (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's road game against the Giants, but he'll suit up and serve as the Cowboys' emergency third quarterback.

Lance has been a member of the Cowboys for a little more than two weeks since he was acquired from the 49ers for a fourth-round pick. For Lance to see the field Sunday, both Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush will need to sustain legitimate injuries, so there's no chance to see any sort of package for the mobile third-year pro. Moving forward, it'll be interesting to see if he can get past Rush for the No. 2 quarterback role.
