  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Titans' Ryan Tannehill: In line to play Friday

Tannehill is in uniform ahead of Friday's preseason game against the Patriots, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

Tannehill is expected to see his first action of the 2023 preseason, after which he'll hand off the Titans offense to Malik Willis for the remainder of the contest with Will Levis (thigh) not slated to play. Running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins both were suited up before kickoff as well, but it remains to be seen if Tannehill also will be working with the team's top skill-position talent.

  • Trey Lance QB | LAC

Cowboys' Trey Lance: On move to Dallas

The 49ers agreed to trade Lance to the Cowboys for a fourth-round draft pick Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

After Sam Darnold was named the 49ers' backup quarterback to starter Brock Purdy on Wednesday, Lance was absent from that day's practice. On Thursday, coach Kyle Shanahan relayed to Nick wagoner of ESPN.com that Lance would "most likely" remain in San Francisco, but just one day later, he's now on the move to Dallas. The Cowboys have a more established No. 1 QB in Dak Prescott, but Lance at least will get to continue his development under coach Mike McCarthy and perhaps compete with Cooper Rush to be the Cowboys' second signal-caller this season.

  • Mac Jones QB | SF

Patriots' Mac Jones: Not slated to face Titans

Jones isn't in line to see action in Friday night's preseason finale against the Titans, Karen Guregian of masslive.com reports.

As Evan Lazar of the team's official site points out, Jones and the Patriots' starting offensive line played 25 snaps in the the preseason finale last year, but with the squad's line dealing with some injuries, it appears as though New England will play it safe with Jones on Friday. In that event, Jones' focus will shift toward preparing for a Week 1 start on Sept. 10 against a rugged Philadelphia defense.

  • Mason Rudolph QB | PIT

Steelers' Mason Rudolph: Lackluster results Thursday

Rudolph completed three of seven pass attempts for 15 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing twice for three yards during Thursday's 24-0 preseason win over Atlanta.

Rudolph was efficient during the Steelers' first two preseason games but took a step back Thursday, while Mitch Trubisky was productive for a second consecutive matchup. Trubisky is likely the favorite to serve as the No. 2 quarterback in Pittsburgh now that the preseason has concluded, but Rudolph could still be in the mix to make the 53-man roster if the team keeps three quarterbacks heading into the regular season.

  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Efficient in victory

Trubisky completed seven of nine pass attempts for 54 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing once for 24 yards during Thursday's 24-0 preseason win over the Falcons.

After a lackluster performance in the preseason opener, Trubisky has turned things around during the last two matchups, completing 17 of 22 pass attempts for 132 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions while rushing three times for 37 yards. Mason Rudolph wasn't nearly as effective during Thursday's preseason finale, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Trubisky open the regular season as the Steelers' No. 2 quarterback.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Won't play this weekend

Jackson won't play in Saturday's preseason finale in Tampa Bay, Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Jackson and other veteran starters have been held out all preseason and will now have two full weeks to prepare for a Sept. 10 home game against the Texans. With RB J.K. Dobbins (undisclosed) and WR Rashod Bateman (foot) both practicing of late, Jackson may have all his key targets available at the start of the regular season. The Ravens are expected to throw more under new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, but Jackson's running will still figure in prominently even if he has to do more on scrambles and less on designed runs.

  • Commanders' Jacoby Brissett: Set to face Bengals

Coach Ron Rivera noted Friday that Brissett will start and play about a quarter and a half in Saturday's preseason finale against the Bengals, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Once Brissett gets his reps in versus Cincinnati, his focus will shift to readying for the regular season as Sam Howell's top backup. As for who else is in line to see action for the Commanders on Saturday, Jhabvala suggests that only a select number of offensive starters are in line to play, but none on defense.

  • Jameis Winston QB | NYG

Saints' Jameis Winston: To start preseason finale

Winston is slated to start Sunday's preseason finale against the Texans, John DeShazier of the Saints' official site reports.

With top QB Derek Carr not in line to see action in the contest, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football, Jake Haener is on track to enter the game after Winston. As the coming season approaches, Winston is set to serve as the Saints' No. 2 QB behind Carr, providing the team with an experienced backup option to turn to should Carr miss time at any point.

  • Will Levis QB | TEN

Titans' Will Levis: Not expected to play Friday

Levis (thigh) isn't expected to play in Friday's preseason finale against New England, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Levis returned to practice Wednesday and told reporters he expected to play Friday, but the Titans apparently will hold him out. Ryan Tannehill likely will start and play a bit before handing things over to Malik Willis for the rest of the night. Willis and Levis have been competing for the No. 2 QB job all summer.

  • Derek Carr QB | NO

Saints' Derek Carr: Held out for preseason finale

Carr and several other starters are unlikely to play in Sunday's preseason game against Houston, Ross Jackson of SI.com reports.

Carr will be held out for a second straight week, after completing six of eight passes for 70 yard and a touchdown in the Saints' preseason opener. He won't have RB Alvin Kamara available for the first three weeks of the regular season, but WRs Chris Olave and Michael Thomas and TE Juwan Johnson are all healthy heading into a Week 1 home game against Tennessee, and even No. 3 WR Rashid Shaheed (groin) recently returned to practice and now has two weeks to ramp up.
