  • Bengals' Jake Browning: Shifts to active roster

Browning was elevated to the active roster Saturday, Andrew Gillis of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The fourth-year quarterback has yet to make his NFL debut, and it's hard to imagine he'd change that as the de facto No. 3 option behind both Joe Burrow and Brandon Allen come Sunday's AFC Conference Championship Game.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Not returning Sunday

Garoppolo (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's NFC Championship Game at Philadelphia, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Garoppolo had a small chance to gain clearance for this contest after suffering a fracture in his left foot Week 13. However, he underwent an X-ray on Tuesday and proceeded to sit out all three practices ahead of Sunday's contest. The 49ers thus will need to advance to the Super Bowl for Garoppolo to have a chance to be active again this season. In the meantime, seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy will continue to lead San Francisco's offense, with Josh Johnson backing him up.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Cleared to face Bengals

Mahomes (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals after being listed as a full practice participant Wednesday through Friday.

Mahomes, who suffered a high right ankle sprain in last weekend's divisional-round playoff win over the Jaguars, had already been confirmed as Sunday's starter by coach Andy Reid, per Adam Teicher of ESPN, with the Chiefs' final injury report officially confirming that there's no doubt about the QB's availability against Cincinnati. What remains to be seen, however, is to what degree Mahomes' mobility might be impacted by his ankle issue, though Reid suggested that Kansas City's game plan has enough options in it for the team to tailor its play-calling around any limitations Mahomes may be dealing with come Sunday.

  • Tua Tagovailoa QB | ATL

Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Won't participate in Pro Bowl Games

Tagovailoa remains in the NFL's concussion protocol and won't participate in next week's Pro Bowl Games, according to Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.

The report notes that Tagovailoa, who had been named a first-alternate Pro Bowler, hasn't experienced any setbacks, but the Dolphins are proceeding deliberately with the QB, with his long-term health in mind. Earlier this month, GM Chris Grier indicated that the franchise will approach the 2023 season with Tagovailoa as its starting signal-caller, based on the belief (via doctors the team has spoken to) that Tagovailoa's past concussions won't leave him more prone to head injuries going forward.

  • Cooper Rush QB | BAL

Cowboys' Cooper Rush: Proves worth as backup

Rush completed 58.0 percent of his passes for 1,051 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions over nine games in 2022.

The 29-year-old quarterback saw his most action yet in an NFL season, and Rush kept the Cowboys' year afloat by winning four of his five starts while Dak Prescott was sidelined with a thumb injury in September and October. Rush will be a free agent this offseason, while Will Grier is still under contract for another season, so it's possible Dallas doesn't bring him back in 2023. Given his success this past season, Rush could have multiple offers to sort through from teams looking for QB depth.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Practices fully again

Mahomes (ankle) logged another full practice session Thursday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

With back-to-back full practices under his belt, Mahomes remains on track to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. As Adam Teicher of ESPN.com notes, the focus with regard to Kansas City's star signal-caller has gone from whether he can play this weekend to how effective he'll be while working through a high right-ankle sprain that he sustained in last Saturday's win over the Jaguars.

  • Case Keenum QB | CHI

Bills' Case Keenum: Plays little as No. 2 QB

Keenum completed just two of seven passes for eight yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in spot duty while appearing in two games during the 2022 season.

Keenum was almost tossed into the spotlight twice in 2022 -- once when Josh Allen suffered a fairly serious elbow injury in a Week 9 loss to the Jets and again when Allen took a big hit in the Bills' divisional-round loss to the Bengals. However, Allen played through a number of issues throughout the season and never missed a full game. Keenum is under contract for two more seasons, and with No. 3 quarterback Matt Barkley signing a reserve/future contract Monday, the Bills may be prepared to enter 2023 with the same quarterback room. Allen likely isn't going anywhere for years, but Keenum holds intrigue as a player who's one injury away from directing a high-powered offense.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Practices in full

Mahomes (ankle) was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday.

Though Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain in this past Saturday's 27-20 divisional-round win over the Jaguars, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com relays that the quarterback said he's made excellent progress in his recovery from the injury and is declaring himself "ready to go" for this Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. With a full practice to start the week under his belt, Mahomes is on track to play this weekend in the absence of any setbacks, though his mobility could be affected by the ankle issue.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Not expected to practice this week

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that Garoppolo (foot) isn't expected to practice ahead of Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Eagles, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Garoppolo underwent an X-ray on Tuesday, and while the results of the test remain unclear, the veteran quarterback looks like he'll still need some more time to heal before being cleared for game action. Though reports earlier in the week suggested Garoppolo was making great strides and would have a chance to be the backup behind Brock Purdy against the Eagles, the former appears set to remain sidelined for at least one more week with his broken left foot. In the meantime, Josh Johnson should continue operating as the No. 2 quarterback behind Purdy, who will attempt to move past a lackluster performance against Dallas in the divisional round.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Set to practice Wednesday

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that Mahomes (ankle) is in line to practice Wednesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

As for the extent of the quarterback's participation in Wednesday's session, Reid noted that he thinks Mahomes -- who took part in the team's morning walk-through session -- will probably do everything. The Chiefs' looming injury report will add further context to the situation, but the mere fact that the signal-caller is slated to practice at this stage bodes well for his availability for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. He was diagnosed with a right high-ankle sprain in the aftermath of last weekend's divisional-round victory over the Jaguars and likely won't have his full mobility if he gets cleared to start versus Cincinnati.
