Andrew Ogletree TE | IND
Colts' Drew Ogletree: Garners first TE target Saturday
Ogletree failed to bring in his lone target in Saturday's preseason win over the Cardinals.
Ogletree was the first tight end targeted by fill-in starter Sam Ehlinger in Saturday's exhibition. Kylen Granson and Mo Alie-Cox did not suit up for this contest while Jelani Woods (toe) suffered a minor injury against Arizona. Ogletree figures to still be in the mix for an unsettled tight-end depth chart in Indianapolis this season.

Ja'Tavion Sanders TE | CAR
Panthers' Ja'Tavion Sanders: First receptions as pro
Sanders recorded two receptions on two targets for 22 yards in Saturday's 15-12 preseason loss to the Jets.
The Panthers didn't play any of their starters in the contest, so the fact that Sanders was on the field doesn't necessarily bode well for his position on the depth chart to begin the season. That doesn't come as a particular surprise considering tight end is a demanding position to learn at the pro level, due to the combination of both blocking and pass-catching responsibilities. In the short term, Sanders managed his first receptions as a pro, a good first step in his quest to move up the depth chart.

Pat Freiermuth TE | PIT
Steelers' Pat Freiermuth: Another quiet game
Freiermuth recorded one reception (on one target) for 10 yards in Saturday's 9-3 preseason loss to the Bills.
Freiermuth made his lone catch on Pittsburgh's second possession, as he was hit in the right flat by Russell Wilson for a modest gain. Though Freiermuth has had limited production in two preseason games, he currently has a strong chance to be the second-most targeted pass catcher in the offense come the regular season.

Jonnu Smith TE | PIT
Dolphins' Jonnu Smith: Four catches in preseason win
Smith brought in all four targets for 23 yards in the Dolphins' 13-6 preseason win over the Commanders on Saturday night.
The veteran offseason addition was on the receiving end of Tua Tagovailoa's second target of the night and finished second in receptions for Miami overall. Smith should have a good chance of developing into the primary pass-catching option at tight end over Durham Smythe as the season unfolds, and Saturday's performance offered a glimpse of what he'll be able to bring as a complementary option to WRs Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle (undisclosed) and Odell Beckham (undisclosed).

Jelani Woods TE | NYJ
Colts' Jelani Woods: Appears to avoid serious injury
Woods' toe injury isn't expected to be serious, and he could play in the Colts' final preseason contest against Cincinnati on Thursday, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Woods didn't return to Saturday's preseason game against Arizona after injuring his toe in the first half, but he may be out of the woods in terms of a long-term absence. If he suits up Thursday for Indianapolis' final exhibition matchup, it could be his chance to make a case for a roster spot as the team's No. 3 tight end over Drew Ogletree.
-
Quintin Morris TE | JAC
Bills' Quintin Morris: Suffers shoulder injury Saturday
Morris hurt his shoulder in Saturday's preseason game against Pittsburgh and has been ruled out from returning.
Morris caught two of four targets for 20 yards prior to going down with the injury. While he's well behind Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox in Buffalo's tight-end pecking order, Morris is a strong favorite to make the squad as the team's third tight end if he is healthy. Morris has seen more work on special teams than on offense during his first two NFL campaigns.
-
Brevin Jordan TE | HOU
Texans' Brevin Jordan: Two catches in return
Jordan caught both of his targets for 16 yards in Saturday's 28-10 preseason win over the Giants.
The tight end missed the Texans' preseason opener due to an undisclosed injury, but he was on the field with the first-team offense Saturday as Houston lined up in 12 personnel for both of C.J. Stroud's drives. Jordan is the team's No. 2 tight end behind Dalton Schultz, but that could still get him on the field more than expected if offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik uses that as his base package. Jordan has never caught more than 20 passes or gained more than 219 receiving yards in a season, and his fantasy value has a firm ceiling on it as long as Schultz is healthy, but the 2021 fifth-round pick might at least get an opportunity to top those numbers in 2024.
-
Jelani Woods TE | NYJ
Colts' Jelani Woods: Hurts toe in preseason game
Woods suffered a toe injury in Saturday's exhibition contest against the Cardinals and has been ruled out from returning, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Woods started the contest at tight end for the Colts but didn't get much of an opportunity to play due to the injury. It's a tough break for the tight end, as he missed all of 2023 due to injuries to both hamstrings. He's been competing with Drew Ogletree and others for a depth role behind Kylen Granson and Mo Alie-Cox, but Woods' chance of making the 53-man roster would be harmed if the toe issue proves to be more than minor.
-
Travis Kelce TE | KC
Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Catches behind-the-back pass
Kelce caught one reception for eight yards on one target in Saturday's preseason game against Detroit.
What looked like a nifty trick play turned out to be a comical and fortuitous accident, as Patrick Mahomes threw a behind-the-back screen pass to Kelce that was later clarified as Kelce running the wrong route and Mahomes throwing behind the back out of momentary necessity. Either way, it's more of the same story from the past six years -- Mahomes and Kelce dominating, be it by accident or design. Particularly with the downfield speed of Marquise Brown (shoulder) and Xavier Worthy spreading defenses thin, Kelce should see a lot of targets in 2024.

Tommy Tremble TE | CAR
Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Expected to be held out Saturday
Tremble (hamstring) is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
The Panthers haven't given many updates regarding Tremble's status, as the expected starting tight end has been dealing with a hamstring injury since last week. Given the lack of news, it's fair to assume the injury isn't serious, but in his expected absence rookie third-round pick Ja'Tavion Sanders should be poised for plenty of snaps Saturday.
