Hofer gave up five goals on 21 shots before being replaced by Jordan Binnington midway through the second period in Tuesday's 8-1 loss to the Senators. Neither goalie got much help from their defense in the rout, and the last two goals against Hofer came on Ottawa's power play. It's the first loss of the season for the 24-year-old netminder, who's posted a 3-1-0 record with a 3.40 GAA and .903 save percentage through four appearances as the Blues' No. 2 goalie.

Hofer will make his fourth start of the season in Tuesday's road matchup versus the Senators, according to Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Hofer will look to extend his season-opening win streak to four against an Ottawa club that ranks sixth in the league offensively with 3.75 goals per game. The 24-year-old has turned aside a combined 96 of 103 shots through three appearances en route to a 3-0-0 record, .932 save percentage and 2.32 GAA.

Hofer stopped 37 of 40 shots in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Hurricanes. Hofer had a rough showing in his season debut against the Sharks on Oct. 10, allowing four goals on 29 shots, but he's been excellent of late with back-to-back wins over the Islanders and Hurricanes while stopping a combined 71 of 74 shots over that span. It's unclear if Hofer will remain in St. Louis' crease for Tuesday's home matchup against the Jets, but he's trending in the right direction. Over three games, Hofer has gone 3-0-0 with a 2.32 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

Hofer posted a 34-save shutout in Thursday's 1-0 overtime win over the Islanders. Hofer has won both of his starts this season, and he had to be perfect to do it this time. The 24-year-old helped his own cause, providing the secondary assist on Jake Neighbours' game-winning tally at 2:04 of overtime. Hofer has allowed four goals on 63 shots so far. If he continues to play well, he could work his way into a near-even split of playing time with Jordan Binnington, who has lost two of his three outings this season.

Hofer was the first goalie off Thursday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports, indicating he'll be in goal for the Blues' home game against the Islanders. Hofer has started in just one of the Blues' first four games of the season, and he turned aside 25 of 29 shots in a road win over the Sharks on Oct. 10. He'll have the chance to start at home Thursday against the Islanders, who have scored 10 goals over their first three games this season while posting a 1-1-1 record.
