  • Bruins' Casey Mittelstadt: Heading north

Mittelstadt, Will Zellers and a second-round selection were acquired by Boston from Colorado on Friday in exchange for Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round pick, per Pierre LeBrun of TSN.

Mittelstadt has 11 goals and 34 points in 63 appearances with Colorado this season. He's on pace to finish below the 50-point mark after exceeding it in 2022-23 and 2023-24, but perhaps the change of scenery will do him some good. Boston will likely use him in a middle-six capacity and give him a role on the power play.

  • Stars' Wyatt Johnston: Signs five-year extension

Johnston signed a five-year, $42 million contract extension with Dallas on Friday, per Darren Dreger of TSN.

The Stars are certainly spending money Friday as they signed Mikko Rantanen earlier in the day to an eight-year, $96 million deal. Johnston is on an eight-game point streak, tallying eight goals and six assists. The 21-year-old has 23 goals and 36 assists, including 20 points on the power play this season.

  • Luke Kunin C | FLA

Blue Jackets' Luke Kunin: Acquired by Columbus

Kunin, who missed Thursday's 7-3 loss to Colorado for roster management reasons, was acquired by Columbus from San Jose on Friday in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick, per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic.

Kunin has 11 goals, 18 points, 46 PIM, 163 hits and 64 blocks in 63 outings in 2024-25. Although he doesn't do a ton offensively, his physicality should be of value to the Blue Jackets as they look to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Kunin will likely serve in the middle six.

  • Cody Glass C | NJ

Devils' Cody Glass: Flipped for pick

Glass was traded to New Jersey from Pittsburgh on Friday in exchange for a third-round pick, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

Considering the Penguins essentially took Glass off the Predators' hands in a salary cap dump earlier in the season, this is another strong piece of business for general manager Kyle Dubas. With the Devils, Glass figures to take on a bottom-six role that will likely come with minutes on the penalty kill. Curtis Lazar could be in danger of dropping out of the lineup with Glass in the fold.

  • Avalanche's Charlie Coyle: Traded to Colorado

Coyle was traded to Colorado from Boston along with a 2026 fifth-round pick for Casey Mittelstadt, Will Zellers and a conditional 2025 second-round selection, Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period reports Friday.

Coyle will likely slot into the third spot at center because Nathan MacKinnon and Brock Nelson are anchoring the top-two lines. Coyle has 15 goals, seven assists, 93 hits and 49 blocked shots across 64 games this season.

  • Blackhawks' Joe Veleno: Traded to Windy City

Veleno was acquired by Chicago from Detroit on Friday in exchange for Petr Mrazek and Craig Smith.

Veleno has five goals, 10 points and 93 hits in 56 appearances with the Red Wings this season. He served in a bottom-six capacity with Detroit and is likely to have the same role in Chicago.

  • Craig Smith C | DET

Red Wings' Craig Smith: Swapped in three-player deal

Smith and netminder Petr Mrazek were traded to Detroit from Chicago on Friday in exchange for Joe Veleno.

Smith has put up decent numbers with the Hawks this season, tallying nine goals and seven helpers in 40 games. Gone are the days of the 35-year-old winger putting up 50-plus points a season, but he should still be capable of reaching the 20-point threshold for the second straight year while filling a bottom-six role.

  • Colton Dach C | EDM

Blackhawks' Colton Dach: Dipping toe in minors

Dach will be moved to the minors Friday in a paper transaction that will make him eligible for the AHL playoffs, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Dach will be back up with the club before the team faces Utah on Friday but needs to be in the minors when the trade deadline passes. Since Chicago won't be making the NHL playoffs, the move will allow the youngster to get some extra minutes after the season with AHL Rockford. In his 18 games for the Hawks this year, the Alberta native has generated two goals, four assists and 59 hits while averaging 11:39 of ice time.

  • Seth Jarvis C | CAR

    Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Tallies game-winner

Jarvis scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Bruins.

The Hurricanes had one go-ahead goal wiped out for being offside, but Jarvis capitalized on a turnover to put them ahead for good with 19 seconds left in the third period. The 23-year-old snapped a three-game slump with the game-winner, his second such goal this season. Overall, he has 24 tallies, 23 assists, 144 shots on net, 79 hits and a plus-3 rating through 56 appearances while seeing time in all situations.

  • Hurricanes' Logan Stankoven: Traded to Carolina

Stankoven was acquired by Carolina, along with two first-round picks and a pair of third-round selections from Dallas for Mikko Rantanen, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reports Friday.

Stankoven has been seeing fourth-line time with the Stars of late, but he should move up to a top-six role with the Hurricanes. Stankoven had nine goals, 20 assists and 148 shots on goal over 59 games with the Stars. The 22-year-old should also see plenty of power-play time with Carolina.
