NHL Player News

  • Maple Leafs' Dennis Hildeby: Turning season around

HIldeby made 27 saves in a 4-3 overtime win over the Jets on Saturday.

Hildeby has won three of his last four outings while allowing only 11 goals on 117 shots. It's been a solid improvement from his previous five appearances, which saw him go 0-3-2 with 130 saves on 150 shots. He has a 2.96 GAA and a .908 save percentage through 18 games this season.

  • Predators' Justus Annunen: No match for Golden Knights

Annunen stopped 29 of 36 shots in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Golden Knights.

Nashville had the first and last goals in the contest, but the Golden Knights had no trouble besting Annunen in between those tallies. He was in it for the long haul after Juuse Saros guided the Predators to a win in Colorado on Friday. Annunen dropped to 4-6-1 with a 3.49 GAA and an .876 save percentage over 14 appearances. It's unclear when Annunen will get his next chance to play, but the Predators don't have another back-to-back on the schedule until just before February's Olympic break.

  • Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Cruises to win

Schmid stopped 27 of 29 shots in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Predators.

Schmid collected his fourth straight win, and he's allowed exactly two goals in each of those games. While not dominant, the 25-year-old netminder is getting the job done, giving the Golden Knights the luxury of not needing Adin Hill to play a full starter's workload after a lengthy absence. Schmid is now at a 15-4-5 record with a 2.45 GAA and an .897 save percentage over 25 appearances. Schmid won't get a lot of saves behind Vegas' steady defense, but he can limit goals against and rack up wins. The Golden Knights' next game is Monday versus the Flyers, and they open their road trip with a back-to-back featuring games in Boston on Thursday and Toronto on Friday.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Surrenders five goals in defeat

Grubauer made 24 saves on 29 shots in a 6-3 loss to Utah on Saturday. The six goal was an empty-netter.

After a stretch of four wins with just one goal allowed in each game, Grubauer's game has loosened, and he's allowed 13 goals in four starts (1-1-2). Overall, he's put up some sharp numbers, including a .916 save percentage that is well above league average. He's 9-4-3 with a 2.45 GAA in 18 appearances.

  • Mammoth's Karel Vejmelka: Sixth straight win

Vejmelka made 18 saves in a 6-3 win over Seattle on Saturday.

Vejmelka has registered six straight wins for himself, and he's allowed just 10 goals in that span. He's 23-11-2 with one shutout, a 2.55 GAA and a .902 save percentage in 37 starts this season. In 2024-25, Vejmelka delivered a 26-22-8 record, 2.58 GAA and .904 save percentage in 58 appearances. The big 29-year-old has taken a step forward this campaign.

  • Oilers' Tristan Jarry: Shuts out Canucks

Jarry posted a 31-save shutout in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Canucks.

It was a close game in the first period, but the Oilers netted all six of their goals in the second. Jarry cruised from there, claiming his first shutout as an Oiler in the process. He's stopped 54 of 58 shots over two games since he returned from a lower-body injury, going 1-0-1 in those contests. He's now at a 13-3-2 record with a 2.64 GAA and a .909 save percentage over 19 appearances this season. Jarry is the head of a three-goalie committee right now, so he'll likely get Sunday's game versus the Blues off before presumably getting the nod Tuesday at home against the Devils.

  • Canucks' Nikita Tolopilo: Yields six goals in loss

Tolopilo allowed six goals on 35 shots in Saturday's 6-0 loss to the Oilers.

Kevin Lankinen was battling an illness, so Tolopilo was likely to see the whole game, for better or worse. It was worse this time, as even sans Leon Draisaitl (personal), the Oilers were able to ring up a huge second period to humiliate the Canucks. During his latest NHL stint, Tolopilo has surrendered 12 goals on 76 shots over two games. He'll likely be with the big club while Thatcher Demko (lower body) works through his latest injury. Tolopilo is 2-3-0 with 21 goals allowed on 177 shots this season and should be avoided in most fantasy formats.

  • Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom: Allows five goals in loss

Soderblom stopped 18 of 23 shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins.

Soderblom was spotted a 2-0 lead in the first period, but it was gone by the end of the second. The Bruins didn't let up in the third, sending Soderblom to his first loss since Dec. 20. The 26-year-old netminder has gone 5-8-1 with a 3.97 GAA and an .868 save percentage over 15 appearances, numbers that make him virtually unplayable in most fantasy formats. He'll continue to occupy the backup role behind Spencer Knight, who will likely start at home against the Jets on Monday.

  • Bruins' Joonas Korpisalo: Collects win over Blackhawks

Korpisalo stopped 22 of 24 shots in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Blackhawks.

Korpisalo allowed two goals in the first period, but he shut the door after that to earn his third straight win. He's allowed just three goals on 80 shots during the winning streak. For the season, the Finnish netminder is up to 9-8-0 with a 3.13 GAA and an .895 save percentage over 18 appearances. Korpisalo is getting a decent share of playing time for a backup, but Jeremy Swayman remains Boston's main man in the crease and will likely start Tuesday in Dallas.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Struggles continue Saturday

Ersson made 22 saves in relief in a 6-3 loss to the Rangers on Saturday.

Starter Aleksei Kolosov allowed three goals on three shots in a 1:20 span in the first period, but Ersson took the loss. The Flyers are on a six-game losing streak (0-5-1) while being outscored by the opposition by a 31-12 margin. Ersson is 0-4-0 with 15 goals allowed during that run.
