NHL Player News

  • Ducks' Vyacheslav Buteyets: Called up by Anaheim

Buteyets was recalled from AHL San Diego on Monday, Zach Cavanagh of The Sporting Tribune reports.

Buteyets hasn't yet made his NHL debut, but he'll provide goaltending depth for the Ducks since Lukas Dostal (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, while Petr Mrazek sustained an undisclosed injury during Sunday's loss to Chicago. Buteyets has made three appearances for the Gulls this year, going 1-2-0 with a 3.72 GAA and .878 save percentage. Even if Mrazek is forced to miss time, Buteyets will likely serve as a backup to Ville Husso.

  • Jake Allen G | NJ

Devils' Jake Allen: In goal Monday

Allen will get the starting nod at home versus Columbus on Monday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Allen is coming off a 42-save shutout win over the Sabres on Friday, his eighth victory of the year in 13 games. While the 35-year-old backstop remains the No. 2 option behind Jacob Markstrom, he should still see around 25-30 games this year and should be capable of putting up around 15 wins. Look for Allen to be in the crease once during an upcoming back-to-back versus the Golden Knights and Bruins on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

  • Canucks' Thatcher Demko: Not yet traveling with team

The Canucks announced Monday that Demko (lower body) hasn't yet traveled with the team, Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK reports.

The Canucks were hopeful that Demko would be able to join the team at some point during a four-game road trip that concludes Tuesday in Colorado, but the goaltender continues to rehab at home. Following Tuesday's road matchup, the Canucks will play four consecutive games at home, but it's not yet clear whether Demko will be in the mix to return during that time. Kevin Lankinen should continue to serve as Vancouver's primary netminder in Demko's absence.

  • Dan Vladar G | PHI

Flyers' Dan Vladar: Exits ice first

Vladar was the first goalie to leave the ice ahead of Monday's home game versus Pittsburgh, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports, indicating he'll be in goal.

Vladar comes into Monday's matchup riding a four-game winning streak, during which he is sporting a 2.46 GAA and .919 save percentage. Still, the netminder has just one victory in four career appearances versus the Penguins, going 1-2-1 despite a .921 save percentage.

  • Senators' Linus Ullmark: Leaks six goals in loss

Ullmark stopped 20 of 26 shots in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Stars.

Ullmark kept the game scoreless in the first period, but the Stars' top players showed up in force over the final 40 minutes. This outing ended a stretch of seven straight starts in which Ullmark didn't concede more than three goals. He's now at a 9-6-4 record with a 3.10 GAA and an .874 save percentage across 19 starts. The workload is a positive, but fantasy managers will have to hope Sunday's outing is a blip on the radar rather than a return to his early struggles. The Senators close out their road trip in Montreal on Tuesday.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Cruises to win Sunday

DeSmith stopped 15 of 16 shots in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Senators.

The game was scoreless through one period, but the Stars' offense erupted in the second and kept going in the third. That made it easy on DeSmith, who didn't see much work en route to his fourth win in his last five outings. He's given up just six goals in that span, which has clearly made the Stars more comfortable in turning to him during a busy stretch of the schedule. DeSmith is up to 6-1-2 with a 2.07 GAA and a .920 save percentage over nine starts in the backup role behind Jake Oettinger this season. With a road back-to-back ahead -- Tuesday versus the Rangers and Wednesday against the Devils -- expect both goalies to get a start within the next two games.

  • Hurricanes' Brandon Bussi: Posts first career shutout

Bussi logged a 15-save shutout in Sunday's 1-0 overtime win over the Flames.

Bussi has hardly been tested over his last two games, though he was playing with no margin for error in Sunday's contest. The 27-year-old has won five straight outings and is 7-1-0 on the year while staking a claim to a larger role in the Hurricanes' crease. He's added a 2.11 GAA and a .907 save percentage through eight starts. The Hurricanes are off until they host the Maple Leafs on Thursday, which is the beginning of a stretch of three games in four days. Bussi should start at least once in that span, and maybe twice if Pyotr Kochetkov (lower body) remains out.

  • Devin Cooley G | CGY

Flames' Devin Cooley: Loses low-scoring game in overtime

Cooley stopped 16 of 17 shots in Sunday's 1-0 overtime loss to the Hurricanes.

Cooley put in a quality performance here, keeping the Flames in a game against a team that wasn't at its best Sunday. Nikolaj Ehlers' tally at 2:52 of overtime broke the deadlock, snapping Cooley's three-game winning streak. Through 10 appearances, Cooley has gone 3-2-2 with a 1.88 GAA and a .930 save percentage this season. This was the 28-year-old's second start in a row and his fourth start in the last six games. He's put in good efforts, and that should be enough for Cooley to claim at least a timeshare with Dustin Wolf until his fortunes fade. The Flames wrap up their road trip versus the Predators on Tuesday.

  • Golden Knights' Carl Lindbom: Sent down Sunday

Lindbom was reassigned to AHL Henderson on Sunday, according to SinBin.vegas.

Carter Hart (suspension) was recalled from his conditioning loan with the Silver Knights on Saturday and is eligible to suit up Tuesday versus the Blackhawks, which resulted in Lindbom's demotion. The 22-year-old Lindbom made seven appearances with the big club, posting a 1-4-2 record, 3.14 GAA and .870 save percentage. The 2021 seventh-round pick will now shift his focus to working on his game in the minors.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Earns second shutout of AHL season

Cossa posted a 26-save shutout in AHL Grand Rapids' 1-0 win over Iowa on Sunday.

Cossa is up to two shutouts this season and five in his career. The 23-year-old netminder has dominated the AHL this year with an 8-1-0 record, a 1.56 GAA and a .942 save percentage in nine games. He's done everything he can at this point to earn a call-up, and continued strong play could help him push for regular NHL minutes as soon as 2026-27.
