Michael Rasmussen C | DET
Red Wings' Michael Rasmussen: Dishes pair of helpers in loss
Rasmussen notched two assists, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Canadiens.
Rasmussen has four points over his last three games, and this was his first multi-point effort of the campaign. He's bounced around the lineup a bit -- the 25-year-old played on the third line and had just 13:31 of ice time Friday. Rasmussen has found more success when he gets top-six looks, but that's not a guarantee, so he remains more of a deep-format option for fantasy. He's produced a total of 12 points, 34 shots on net, 55 hits, 23 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 31 appearances.

Joseph Veleno C | DET
Red Wings' Joe Veleno: Scores again Friday
Veleno scored a goal on two shots and added two PIM in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Canadiens.
Veleno went from nothing on offense for well over a month to a three-game point streak in the span of a week. He has two goals and an assist during his recent bounce-back on offense. The 24-year-old forward has contributed just five points with 24 shots on net, 42 hits, 19 blocked shots, 11 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 28 appearances this season. Veleno will have to prove himself over a longer stretch, and that may still not be enough for him to earn fantasy interest since he's firmly in a bottom-six role.

Tyler Motte C | DET
Red Wings' Tyler Motte: Puts away goal
Motte scored a goal in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Canadiens.
This was Motte's first point over eight appearances in December. He converted on a pass from Michael Rasmussen, who stole the puck to create the goal. The 29-year-old Motte is at just two goals with 24 shots on net, 26 hits, 17 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating through 19 outings this season. He plays in the bottom six, and given he's never had more than 19 points in a single season, he's not a particularly intriguing forward for fantasy.

Patrick Kane RW | DET
Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Scores in Friday's loss
Kane scored a goal on four shots in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Canadiens.
Kane is warming up with two goals and two assists over his last three outings. His tally Friday tied the game at 1-1 in the first period. The veteran winger is up to five goals, 14 points, 57 shots on net and a minus-7 rating through 27 outings overall. Kane continues to log middle-six minutes and power-play time, though his role could increase if he sustains his recent uptick in production.

Cam Talbot G | DET
Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Gives up four goals in loss
Talbot stopped 29 of 33 shots in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Canadiens.
Talbot made just his third appearance of December after battling a nagging lower-body injury. The 37-year-old goalie didn't look great in this one, which extended his winless run to four outings. Talbot is now 6-7-2 with a 2.78 GAA and a .914 save percentage over 17 appearances this season. Alex Lyon figures to get the nod in Saturday's rematch in Montreal, and if Talbot continues to struggle, he could lose playing time moving forward.

Joel Armia RW | MON
Canadiens' Joel Armia: Contributes helper
Armia notched an assist, two shots on goal and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings.
Armia has three goals and an assist over his last seven outings. The helper was his first since Nov. 27, but he's emerged as a key depth scorer for the Canadiens while often filling a fourth-line role. For the season, Armia has 14 points, 43 shots on net, 44 hits and a minus-5 rating through 32 appearances, putting him on pace for his most productive campaign in five years.

Charlie Lindgren G | WAS
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Wins goaltender duel Friday
Lindgren turned aside 24 of 25 shots in Friday's 3-1 win over Carolina.
Lindgren collected his seventh win in his last nine appearances Friday. He almost registered his first shutout of the season in the victory, but Seth Jarvis got Carolina on the board at 10:22 of the third period. The 31-year-old has been spectacular in December, posting a 3-1-0 record, .942 save percentage and 1.50 GAA through four appearances. The Minnesota native has allowed exactly one goal in three of those four contests. Lindgren is up to a 10-6-0 record, 2.59 GAA and .905 save percentage through 16 appearances.

Mike Matheson D | MON
Canadiens' Mike Matheson: Supplies assist Friday
Matheson managed an assist and went minus-2 in Friday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings.
Matheson helped out on Emil Heineman's opening goal in the first period. This was Matheson's second assist over the last three games, but he's been limited to just three helpers through nine outings in December. The 30-year-old defenseman has 17 points, 66 blocked shots, 56 shots on net, 29 PIM and a minus-12 rating through 30 contests this season. His defensive numbers will struggle since he plays big minutes on a team that often is outmatched, but Matheson adds enough offense to be a factor in fantasy anyway.
-
Lane Hutson D | MON
Canadiens' Lane Hutson: Provides power-play assist
Hutson notched a power-play assist and went minus-2 in Friday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings.
Hutson continued a strong run of offense -- he's gotten on the scoresheet in 10 of the last 11 games, racking up a goal and 11 assists in that span. He set up Patrik Laine for the game-winning goal in Friday's contests. Hutson is up to 23 points (10 on the power play), 36 shots on net, 43 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a minus-16 rating through 32 appearances. There's still work for him to do defensively, but he's already got plenty of offense, so fantasy managers who can weather his poor plus-minus rating shouldn't hesitate to have him active.

Cole Caufield RW | MON
Canadiens' Cole Caufield: Draws power-play assist
Caufield logged a power-play assist, three shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Friday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings.
Caufield's numbers are evening out a bit -- after being almost nothing but goals early on, he's now racked up five helpers over the last five games without scoring in that span. His latest assist was on a Patrik Laine tally in the third period Friday. Caufield has been excellent overall with 17 goals, 13 assists, 87 shots on net, 28 hits and a minus-4 rating through 32 appearances, and 10 of his 30 points have come on the power play. He should have no trouble staying in a top-line role.
