  • Byron Jones: Set to be released

The Dolphins informed Jones (Achilles) on Tuesday that he'll be released March 15, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Per Schefter, the move will be designated as a post-June 1 cut and will save Miami $13.6 million. Jones missed the entire 2022 campaign due to left Achilles' surgery and was still unable to run or jump as of late February, but he's not planning on retiring despite an uphill battle in his recovery. Jones will have a chance to test free agency this summer, but he might have to settle for a one-year prove-it deal.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: Significant recovery hurdles remain

Jones (Achilles) said via his official Twitter account Saturday that he "can't run or jump" after having missed the entire 2022 season due to left Achilles' surgery. Jones is not retiring, as ESPN reports, but it appears he's still facing an uphill battle to return to the playing field. The 2018 Pro Bowler hasn't appeared in NFL action since undergoing Achilles' surgery last March to address a lingering injury, though it was initially reported the Dolphins expected him to be ready for training camp. This offseason, Miami can save $13.6 million in salary cap space by trading or releasing Jones after June 1.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: Won't be available Week 5

Jones (ankle) won't be designated to return from injured reserve ahead of Week 5, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that the cornerback's recovery from offseason ankle surgery is "not progressing as fast as we'd hoped." Jones will miss a fifth consecutive contest to start the season, and it's unclear when he'll return to practice. In his prolonged absence, expect Nik Needham and Kader Kohou to continue garnering increased roles in Miami's secondary.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: Sits out Wednesday's practice

Jones (quadriceps) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Coach Brian Flores said Monday that Jones was considered day-to-day with the quad injury, and the cornerback was a DNP at the first practice of the week. The 29-year-old likely will need to practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have a chance of suiting up this weekend.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: Starts week with limited practice

Jones (groin/Achilles) was limited in Wednesday's practice, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports. Coach Brian Flores said Monday that Jones is expected to play Sunday in San Francisco barring a setback, and the cornerback's limited practice to start the week does nothing to dispel that notion. Jones will ideally be able to upgrade to a full practice as the week goes along, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him log limited sessions the rest of the way as he prepares to rejoin his teammates on the field for the first time since Week 2.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: On track for Week 5

Coach Brian Flores said Monday that Jones (groin/Achilles) should play Week 5 against the 49ers barring a setback, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. The Dolphins' secondary held up longer than expected in Sunday's 31-23 loss to the Seahawks, but Jones will be a major boost over rookie Noah Igbinoghene. Jones likely will be limited to begin the practice week but is expected to be ready Sunday. He's played just two games this season, but he's been the team's lockdown corner, allowing a 75.7 passer rating when targeted.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: Absent from early part of practice

Jones (groin/Achilles) is not present at the early portion of Monday's practice open to the media, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Jones missed last Thursday's win over the Jaguars due to a combination of groin and Achilles injuries, and it looks as though he still isn't ready to resume practicing. Rookie first-round pick Noah Igbinoghene would stand to draw another start if Jones can't progress in time to suit up versus Seattle on Sunday.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: Heads to locker room

Jones (groin) exited Sunday's game against the Bills and is questionable to return, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports. Jones had battled the Achilles injury the past two weeks, but now appears to be dealing with a new issue. As long as Jones is sidelined, rookie Noah Igbinoghene would be in line to see a major uptick in snaps at cornerback.

  • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Lands in Miami

The Dolphins signed Jones (ankle) to a contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. One of the key puzzle pieces of free agency has found a new home, moving on from the Cowboys after five campaigns. During that run, the 27-year-old cornerback averaged 4.4 tackles per game while compiling three forced fumbles, two interceptions and one defensive touchdown. Perhaps Jones' biggest attribute is a lack of injury history, as he's missed just one of 80 career regular-season outings.

  • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Questionable with ankle sprain

Jones is dealing with a sprained ankle and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Redskins, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. The 27-year-old sustained the injury during Thursday's practice, leaving his availability as a question mark. According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Jones was wearing a protective boot on his right foot Friday, which isn't a great sign for his status this weekend.

  • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Held back in practice

Jones (hip) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Jones shook off a hamstring injury to suit up in last Thursday's loss to the Bears, but now he's hampered by a hip issue. There's no information about the severity of Jones' injury, but a potential absence in Week 15 would be quite disruptive to the Cowboys' defense against the Rams' sixth-ranked passing game (276.8 yards per game). The 2015 first-round pick plays an every-down role, allowing 6.5 yards per target and three touchdowns in coverage this year.

Jones (hamstring) is expected to play Sunday night against the Eagles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Jones is listed as questionable but should be able to suit up for Sunday's divisional tilt. The 27-year-old sat out the first two practices of the week but put in a limited session Friday.

  • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Sitting out practice Wednesday

Jones (hamstring) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. Jones didn't return to this past Sunday's game against the Jets after suffering a hamstring injury. His absence from Wednesday's practice is troubling and puts him on track to miss Week 7's game against the Eagles if he can't get on the field in some capacity Thursday or Friday. Since Anthony Brown (hamstring) is on the mend as well, Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis are in line to be the Cowboys' top corners.

  • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Full participant Wednesday

Jones (hip) practiced without limitations Wednesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Jones didn't miss a game in his first four NFL seasons, and he's not starting now. The 2015 first-round pick has lived up to the hype with 67 tackles and 14 pass breakups last year, although he has just two career interceptions. Jones could have a chance to up his turnover game over the first three weeks with matchups against the Giants, Redskins and Dolphins on tap.

Jones (hip) got some practice time in with the second-team defense Tuesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. A day after being activated off the PUP list, Jones was back on the practice field. • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Expected off PUP list

Jones (hip) is expected to be activated off the PUP list Monday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. The fifth-year player emerged as a true shutdown corner last year under the tutelage of defensive backs coach Kris Richard and, after a somewhat prolonged recovery from March hip surgery, Jones should still have enough time to get ready for Week 1. Heading into the final year of his rookie contract, another impressive campaign in 2019 should earn the 26-year-old a huge payday.

  • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Likely headed to PUP list

The Cowboys are likely to place Jones (hip) on the Physically Unable to Perform list when training camp opens, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Jones underwent offseason hip surgery in late March but was initially expected to be ready for training camp. The defensive back apparently hasn't progressed as well as the Cowboys had hoped, as he has yet to resume full running during his recent workouts. The 26-year-old is coming off a solid 2018 campaign, during which he racked up 67 tackles (56 solo) and 14 pass breakups in 16 games.

Jones is progressing well in his rehab after hip surgery, Calvin Watkins of The Athletic reports. Jones isn't expected to do much, if anything, during OTAs, but any optimism is a good sign. In his fourth year, Jones was outstanding with 67 tackles and 14 pass breakups through 16 games. Jones is still targeting a return for training camp.

  • Cowboys' Byron Jones: Gets surgery on hip

Jones had hip surgery Wednesday but still hopes to be ready for the start of training camp, ESPN.com's Todd Archer reports. Jones played through a hip injury late in the 2018 season and was hoping it would resolve itself with rest. He presumably won't be available for the Cowboys' offseason program, but the rehab process isn't expected to impact his Week 1 availability. The 26-year-old cornerback could receive an extension this offseason, as he's scheduled to play out 2019 under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. The Cowboys reportedly have talked with Jones' agent, but they're currently focused on working out deals for DE DeMarcus Lawrence, QB Dak Prescott and WR Amari Cooper.
