  • Bills' Mitchell Trubisky: Resumes practicing in full

Trubisky (knee) practiced in full Thursday. Trubisky was limited due to a knee issue Wednesday, but he's upgraded to full participation in time to play without restrictions Week 1. Barring any setbacks, Trubisky now looks fully on track to operate as the No. 2 quarterback behind Josh Allen during Buffalo's regular-season opener against the Cardinals on Sunday.

  • Bills' Mitchell Trubisky: Remains uncertain for season opener

Trubisky (knee) will be a limited participant during practice Wednesday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. Trubisky is still nursing a knee injury suffered in a mid-August preseason tilt with the Steelers. His ability to participate at some level Wednesday should be a step in the right direction, though head coach Sean McDermott is "not sure" if the North Carolina product will be available Week 1, according to Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site. If Trubisky can't play Sunday against the Cardinals, Buffalo will likely promote Mike White to the active roster from the practice squad.

  • Bills' Mitchell Trubisky: Uncertain for Week 1

General manager Brandon Beane said Wednesday that the status of Trubisky (knee) is uncertain for Week 1, Chris Brown of the Bills Radio Network reports. Trubisky is working his way back from a knee injury sustained mid-August in a preseason game against the Steelers, and while he doesn't seem like a candidate to begin the regular season on injured reserve, he's not a lock to be ready for Buffalo's opener against the Cardinals on Sept. 8. As an insurance option behind Josh Allen, the Bills prioritized inking Mike White to the practice squad Tuesday after he was cut by the Dolphins.

  • Bills' Mitch Trubisky: Set to miss time

Trubisky (knee) is expected to miss multiple weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Trubisky left Saturday's preseason contest in Pittsburgh due to a knee injury, and based on Monday's report, the QB's Week 1 status is unclear. When healthy, Trubisky is slated to be Josh Allen's top backup, but for now Ben DiNucci profiles as the Bills' No. 2 signal-caller.

  • Bills' Mitch Trubisky: Major action in preseason opener

Trubisky completed 10 of 18 passes for 82 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Saturday's preseason loss to the Bears, good for a 67.4 rating. He also rushed three times for 12 yards. Trubisky is the clear No. 2 behind superstar Josh Allen, and he didn't do anything too terribly in this outing to put his spot at any risk. No. 3 quarterback Shane Buechele had a rough game with an interception and a 34.6 rating, so at this point it would be a pretty big shock to see the Bills enter the regular season with anything other than an Allen-Trubisky pecking order. Trubisky also has experience with the Bills dating back to 2021, and the Bills like that he offers a similar type of big-bodied player with an ability to run should anything happen to The Franchise.

  • Bills' Mitch Trubisky: Returns to Buffalo as backup

Trubisky agreed to a two-year contract with the Bills on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The Steelers released Trubisky last month after a two-year run with the team in which the 29-year-old went 2-5 as a starter and was benched multiple times in favor of Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. Trubisky spent the 2021 season as Josh Allen's backup with the Bills and will head back to a familiar spot, where he'll replace Kyle Allen as Buffalo's No. 2 quarterback.

  • Mitch Trubisky: Cut loose by Steelers

The Steelers released Trubisky on Monday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports. Among his five appearances during the 2023 season, Trubisky earned two starts and overall completed 67 of 107 passes for 632 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing 16 times for 54 yards and two more scores. Both Kenny Pickett early and Mason Rudolph late in the campaign played over Trubisky when they were healthy, and with the decision to move on from the latter, he'll get a head start on his next destination.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Serving as No. 2 QB this week

Head coach Mike Tomlin announced Thursday that Trubisky will serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Mason Rudolph for Saturday's game against the Bengals, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Kenny Pickett will remain out for a third game in a row while recovering from tightrope surgery on his right ankle, but Trubisky will be bumped down to second on the depth chart in favor of Rudolph after starting the prior two contests. Trubisky went 0-2 during his brief run as a starter, completing 38 of 58 pass attempts for 359 yards (6.2 YPA), two touchdowns and three interceptions while adding 31 yards and two scores on 10 carries. The Steelers benched Trubisky late in this past Saturday's 30-13 loss to the Colts and turned to Rudolph, who will now get his first start since the 2021 season. Pickett was a limited participant in practice Tuesday through Thursday and could be ready to return to the lineup Week 17 versus the Seahawks, so Trubisky may find himself as a healthy inactive for that contest as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Demoted from starting role

Coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that Pittsburgh plans to start Mason Rudolph over Trubisky against the Bengals on Saturday, ESPN.com reports. Tomlin added that Kenny Pickett (ankle) will reclaim the starting role whenever he's healthy enough to do so, which could be as soon as Saturday's game. Trubisky entered in relief of Pickett in Week 13, then started the next two games, all of which the Steelers lost. He'll presumably drop to third on the quarterback depth chart once Pickett's healthy, but Trubisky could remain in a backup role behind Rudolph against the Bengals if Pickett doesn't gain clearance to play.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Another start awaits

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Monday that Trubisky will make a second consecutive start Saturday in Indianapolis while Kenny Pickett continues his recovery from ankle surgery, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. With Pickett set to be inactive for the second week in a row, Mason Rudolph will serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Trubisky, who could have a shorter leash Week 15 after turning in a listless showing against the 3-10 Patriots in this past Thursday's 21-18 loss. Trubisky completed 22 of 35 passes for 190 yards, one touchdown and one interception and added 30 yards and a score on eight carries, and he was spared another interception in the first half when a Patriots defender was called for pass interference. He profiles as a lower-end fantasy option for Week 15, though the rushing ability that he displayed last Thursday and during his time with the Bears could give him some appeal in leagues that start two quarterbacks or have a QB flex spot.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Likely to get at least one start

Trubisky completed 11 of 17 passes for 117 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 24-10 loss to Arizona. Trubisky entered the game just before halftime after Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury. He struggled to move the offense until the game was out of reach, as 65 of his yards came on the Steelers' final drive with the team down 21 points. Pickett is expected to miss time and will face a short turnaround before Thursday's matchup against the Patriots, meaning Trubisky is likely to get at least one start.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Leads road win

Trubisky completed 17 of 22 passes for 179 yards in Sunday's 24-16 win over the Panthers. He also rushed six times for nine yards and a touchdown. Trubisky led the Steelers to a road victory while getting the nod over Mason Rudolph to replace injured starter Kenny Pickett (concussion). Along with connecting with top wideout Diontae Johnson for a season-high 10 catches, Trubisky added a scoring rush with a quarterback sneak during the third quarter. Despite his serviceable performance Sunday, Trubisky would figure to return to the sideline should Pickett be cleared for Week 16's game versus the Raiders.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Confirmed as Week 15 starter

Trubisky will start Sunday's game against the Panthers. With Kenny Pickett (concussion) downgraded to out Saturday, Trubisky has been confirmed as Sunday's starter, which sets the stage for Mason Rudolph to serve as the team's No. 2 QB versus Carolina. In that context, Trubisky -- who started the Steelers' first four games of the season -- represents a Week 15 lineup option for those in QB-heavy leagues or who are otherwise scrambling for a short-term option at the position.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Expected to start Sunday

Trubisky is expected to start Sunday's game against the Panthers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. With Kenny Pickett listed as doubtful and still in the NFL's concussion protocol, Trubisky is expected to get the starting nod Sunday rather than Mason Rudolph, who he had been splitting practice reps with. Trubisky thus provides those scrambling for QB help in Week 15 with a lineup option, while Pickett will look to gain clearance to play in Week 16 against Las Vegas.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Option to start Sunday

Coach Mike Tomlin said Friday that he'll wait until Saturday to make a decision between Trubisky and Mason Rudolph to replace Kenny Pickett (doubtful - concussion) as the starting quarterback for Sunday's game at Carolina, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Trubisky subbed in for Pickett after the latter entered the concussion protocol last Sunday against the Ravens, completing 22 of 30 passes for 276 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in a 16-14 loss. While the performance was mistake-prone, Trubisky also posted 9.2 yards per attempt on the backs of three completions of 20-plus yards. Trubisky and Rudolph split first-team reps in practice all week, so Tomlin seemingly has all the info he needs to make a call between the two, but it won't be known until some point Saturday. Whoever gets the nod will be facing the Panthers' 15th-ranked pass defense (214.7 yards per game).

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Three picks in relief

Trubisky completed 22 of 30 passes for 276 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Sunday's 16-14 loss to the Ravens. Trubisky entered the game in relief of Kenny Pickett (concussion) late in the first quarter. While he put up plenty of yardage, Trubisky doomed the Steelers to a loss with an ugly three-interception performance -- two of which occurred deep in Baltimore territory. While Trubisky won't be fantasy relevant in most traditional formats, he could provide a boost to Diontae Johnson, George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth if Pickett is unable to return in time for a Week 15 matchup against the Panthers.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Limited production against Patriots

Trubisky completed 21 of 33 pass attempts for 168 yards, a touchdown and an interception while rushing once for seven yards during Sunday's 17-14 loss to the Patriots. Trubisky was efficient during the preseason, but he hasn't had the same kind of success over the Steelers' first two games in the regular season. He's completed just 59.2 percent of his pass attempts and has been held under 200 yards in each of his first two games with Pittsburgh. Although the Steelers won their regular-season opener and were competitive against New England, they'll need more production from Trubisky if they hope to contend in the talented AFC North this season. The team will have a short week prior to Thursday's Week 3 matchup in Cleveland.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Rough debut with new team

Trubisky completed 21 of 38 pass attempts for 194 yards and one touchdown in an overtime win against Cincinnati on Sunday. No turnovers is a good thing, but Trubisky was unacceptably ineffective as a passer in this game, as he repeatedly missed opportunities and made inaccurate throws the few times he did recognize a passing opportunity. Though they pulled out a victory in Week 1 thanks largely to five turnovers by opposing quarterback Joe Burrow, the Steelers will need Trubisky to play better going forward if they hope to be competitive in 2022. They play at home against a reeling New England squad in Week 2.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: No decision on starting QB yet

Trubisky started Sunday's preseason finale against the Lions, but head coach Mike Tomlin told Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site that he has yet to make a decision on who will start at quarterback Week 1 at Cincinnati. Trubisky started the Steelers' final preseason game with the first unit, completing 15 of 19 pass attempts for 160 yards and a touchdown. The 28-year-old has put together a strong preseason, despite carrying a bust label from his time in Chicago. That said, rookie Kenny Pickett has been just as impressive, if not more given his lack of pro experience. While Trubisky's veteran status and strong results on the field this preseason would normally bode well for his chances to win this fierce quarterback competition, Tomlin's stance on not making a decision yet makes both signal-callers risky fantasy options for the time being.

  • Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Confirms no announcement on starter

Trubisky confirmed Wednesday that there's been no official announcement of the Steelers' starting quarterback, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Trubisky started the first two preseason games and reportedly has dominated reps with the first-team offense in practice, but it's possible he's facing a late challenge from Kenny Pickett, who has completed 19 of 22 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns in exhibitions. Pickett even got some work with the first-string offense after Trubisky was pulled from the second preseason game, throwing for 63 yards and a touchdown in the final minute of the first half. Trubisky also has good numbers this preseason -- 9-of-15 passing for 123 yards and a touchdown -- and remains the favorite to start Week 1, but Pickett's excellent preseason increases the veteran's risk of losing the starting job if he struggles in-season. Trubisky said he expects to start Pittsburgh's final preseason game Sunday against the Lions, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
