Pettway spent the majority of last season on the Patriots' practice squad, but the team has now decided to part ways with the 27-year-old. • Patriots' La'Michael Pettway: Joins New England's active roster

The Patriots signed Pettway to a two-year contract Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The move corresponds with New England placing Hunter Henry (knee) on the injured reserve list Saturday. Pettway joined the Patriots' practice squad Dec. 26 after trying out with the team a month prior. Now that he's on the active roster, he'll provide depth at tight end behind Mike Gesicki and Pharaoh Brown, the latter of whom is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets with a rib injury.

New England signed Pettway to its practice squad Tuesday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports. Pettway tried out with the Patriots in late November and will now join the organization after being waived by Indianapolis with an injury settlement in August. The tight end has yet to suit up for an NFL game, though he has seen professional action in the USFL in both 2022 and 2023. Pettway could have a path to being elevated by the Patriots if Hunter Henry (knee) needs to miss more time.
