  • Panthers' Mike Boone: Signs to active roster

The Panthers are slated to sign Boone to the 53-man roster from the practice squad Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Boone had been elevated from the practice squad against the Saints in Week 1. He only took four carries for seven yards in the blowout loss (on five offensive snaps), but also played 68 percent of snaps on special teams. Boone figures to reprise a similar depth role against the Chargers on Sunday.

  • Mike Boone: Reverts to practice squad

Boone reverted to Carolina's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Despite playing just five offensive snaps in the Panthers' loss at New Orleans in Week 1, Boone carried the football four times, albeit for seven yards. With Jonathon Brooks (knee) still out, it wouldn't be surprising to see Boone called back up for Week 2.

  • Panthers' Mike Boone: Up from practice squad

The Panthers elevated Boone to the active roster Saturday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. With Jonathon Brooks (knee) set to miss at least the first four games of the regular season while on the NFI list, Boone will serve as the fourth running back on the Panthers' depth chart for Sunday's game against the Saints behind Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear. Boone appeared in nine regular-season games for the Texans in 2023, finishing with five carries for 23 yards and seven catches (on nine targets) for 40 yards.

  • Mike Boone: Staying in Carolina

Boone signed with the Panthers' practice squad Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports. Boone spent last season in Houston before he was waived, and he then inked a deal with Carolina's practice squad in early 2024. The veteran running back was expected to rejoin the Panthers' practice squad ahead of the coming campaign after winning over the coaching staff in camp.

  • Mike Boone: Won't make initial rostery

Boone was released by the Panthers on Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Boone spent last season in Houston before he was waived and inked a deal with Carolina's practice squad. The veteran running back is considered a candidate to once again join the team's practice squad, assuming he doesn't find a better option elsewhere.

  • Mike Boone: Lands with Carolina

The Panthers signed Boone to their practice squad Tuesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports. The 28-year-old veteran running back appeared in nine games for the Texans earlier this season, rushing five times for 23 scoreless yards and adding 7-40-0 receiving on nine targets as a deep reserve. He was let go by Houston last month and will be depth for the Panthers for the final game of the season.

  • Mike Boone: Let go by Houston

The Texans waived Boone on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Boone will head to waivers after serving as a healthy scratch for the past four weeks. The 28-year-old will now look to catch on with another team after carrying the ball five times for 23 yards and catching seven of his nine targets for an additional 70 yards in nine games this season.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Healthy scratch for Week 12

Boone (coach's decision) is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Dameon Pierce (ankle) is active after missing the Texans' last three games, leaving no room in the backfield for Boone. Pierce and Devin Singletary -- the latter of whom served as Houston's lead back during Pierce's absence -- are expected to share most of the snaps on offense, while Dare Ogunbowale is active as the Texans' No. 3 back but is likely to see most of his playing time on special teams.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Fills out backfield

Boone had one carry for three yards and played 19 snaps on offense in Sunday's 39-37 win over the Buccaneers in Week 9. Boone's playing time was his most since Week 1, but significant touches did not come his way. With Dameon Pierce (ankle) unavailable, Boone moved up the depth chart as the primary backup to Devin Singletary, but Houston's running game didn't gain much traction (53 yards) and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik shifted to a pass-heavy attack. Boone, who had been the primary kick returner in previous weeks, was removed from that role as Tank Dell handled those duties.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Fringe contributor in Week 8

Boone had one carry for five yards, caught his lone target for 11 yards and returned two kickoffs for 44 yards in Sunday's 15-13 loss to the Panthers. Boone was given his typical playing time on offense, but the coaches also moved him up the kick return depth chart. Devin Singletary had been the primary returner on kickoffs, but he's taken on a larger role on offense and the coaching staff may not want to expose him to injury on special teams. Boone has a combined 49 yards on seven touches this season as a running back.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Gets first carry of season

Boone had one carry for four yards in Sunday's 30-6 win over the Steelers. Boone's first carry of the season came well into the fourth quarter with Houston up by three scores. His main role until Sunday has been as a kickoff returner, but Devin Singletary handled those chores in Week 4. Boone has been active for three of four games and played just 30 offensive snaps.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Minimal impact in win

Boone did not log a carry in four offensive snaps and returned one kickoff for 14 yards in Sunday's 37-17 win over the Jaguars in Week 3. Boone returned to the active roster in Week 3 while Dare Ogunbowale was a healthy scratch. The two have alternated as the third back through the first three weeks. Boone was used as a receiving back in Week 1, when he had 22 snaps on offense.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Healthy scratch Sunday

Boone (coach's decision) is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Colts. Boone handled a key role as a pass-catching back in the Texans' Week 1 loss to the Jaguars, recording three receptions for 18 yards on four targets across his 22 offensive snaps. Even though Houston's backfield configuration hasn't changed since Week 1, Boone will be in street clothes for Week 2, likely because the Texans are prioritizing extra depth along the injury-depleted offensive line. With Boone sidelined, Devin Singletary could see an expanded role behind starting running back Dameon Pierce.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Back with Houston

The Texans re-signed Boone on Thursday. Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Boone -- who had been temporarily let go Wednesday -- quickly rejoined the team under the same two-year, $3.1 million contract he inked as a free agent this offseason. Now that he's back in the mix, Boone profiles as Houston's No. 3 running back behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary.

  • Texans' Mike Boone: Active against Pats

Boone carried four times for 25 yards and caught one pass for seven yards in last Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports. "He's an explosive runner," coach DeMeco Ryans said. "He has dynamic speed. He showed a little glimpse of that in the game, and he has continued to move forward." Boone, a former track-and-field athlete in high school, showed a sprinter's speed and acceleration against New England. The 27-year-old running back solidified his chances of a roster spot behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary. Boone had 102 yards on 24 carries and caught nine of 15 targets for 96 yards in 120 offensive snaps for the Broncos in 2022.

  • Broncos' Mike Boone: Could miss time

Denver head coach Nathaniel Hackett acknowledged Monday that Boone (ankle) might be done for the season, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. "It doesn't look good right now," Hackett said of Boone. DiLalla notes that the team still is evaluating the ankle injury Boone sustained in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs, but if the running back ends up missing time, the Broncos will need to add depth behind Latavius Murray and Marlon Mack. Devine Ozigbo is currently a member of Denver's practice squad and would likely be first in line for a promotion if Boone is sidelined for the Broncos' Week 15 game against the Cardinals.

  • Broncos' Mike Boone: Injures ankle Sunday

Boone was carted off the field during Sunday's game against the Chiefs after suffering an ankle injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Before his exit from the contest, Boone ran three times for two yards and caught two passes for 27 yards. In his absence, Latavius Murray and Marlon Mack will handle Denver's Week 14 backfield touches.

  • Broncos' Mike Boone: Activated off IR

Boone (ankle) was activated off injured reserve Saturday. Boone has been on injured reserve since Week 8, but the veteran almost immediately returns to a relevant fantasy spot with the likes of Latavius Murray and Marlon Mack shouldering the backfield burden at the moment. Boone easily profiles to be the best receiving back of the bunch, but it's unclear how much work that role might have in a Broncos offense that has ground itself to a halt over recent weeks.

  • Broncos' Mike Boone: Could return after Week 12

Boone (ankle) could return from injured reserve following Week 12, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports. Boone is eligible to return from IR in Week 13 after recovering from an ankle injury suffered in Week 8. The veteran would be welcomed into a running back room that looks a bit different after the Broncos' recent moves. Denver waived Melvin Gordon on Monday, and their recent trade acquisition Chase Edmonds is slated to miss time with a high right-ankle sprain. One would expect Boone to carve out a role in this backfield behind Latavius Murray, who projects to be the starter going forward. Teammates Marlon Mack and practice-squad member Devine Ozigbo also figure to handle carries. Boone becomes an interesting add for fantasy managers looking to add depth to their roster, especially with the 27-year-old's pass-catching ability needed for a Broncos team that struggles to push the ball down the field.

  • Broncos' Mike Boone: X-rays negative

Boone (ankle) underwent X-rays that came back negative after exiting Sunday's game against the Jets, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports. While early reports on Boone's ankle injury are encouraging, he'll undergo an MRI on Monday to help pinpoint his diagnosis. If he's forced to miss additional time, Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray should serve as the Broncos' top two running backs.
