  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 3 Waiver Priority List

Gibson played well in Week 2 against Seattle with 11 carries for 96 yards, and he added one catch for 7 yards on one target. The Patriots have shown through two games against Cincinnati and Seattle that they can run the ball based on how well Stevenson and Gibson have performed, and Gibson could be considered a lottery ticket if something were to happen to Stevenson. It's a good idea to put Gibson on your bench in all leagues, and he's worth adding for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Effective as rusher in Week 2

Gibson rushed the ball 11 times for 96 yards in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Seahawks. He added one reception on one target for seven yards. When Gibson landed with New England this offseason, it was expected that he would serve as the team's primary pass catcher out of the backfield. Through two games, he has only one reception, but he has made his mark as a rusher. On Sunday, his highlight reel play came midway through the fourth quarter when he evaded penetration in the backfield and broke free for a 45-yard run -- the Patriots' longest play from scrimmage on the day. Rhamondre Stevenson is still the clear lead back in New England, but Gibson has proven to be a key piece of the offense early on.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Cleared to face Seahawks

Gibson (hip) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Gibson began the week with a pair of limited practices, but he was removed from the injury report Friday and practiced without limitations. After notching seven carries for 18 yards in his Patriots debut last week, Gibson will reprise his role as a change-of-pace option behind Rhamondre Stevenson in Week 2.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Limited in practice Wednesday

Gibson (hip) was listed as a limited participant at Wednesday's practice. A hip issue limited Gibson this past Thursday and Friday, but he suited up for the Patriots' Week 1 win over the Bengals on Sunday, carrying seven times for 18 yards while logging 14 snaps in a complementary role behind top back Rhamondre Stevenson. With no reported setbacks, Gibson's listed limitations Wednesday may have been maintenance-related.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Logs seven carries in Week 1

Gibson carried seven times for 18 yards in the Patriots' 16-10 season-opening win over the Bengals on Sunday. Per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Gibson -- who headed into the weekend listed as questionable with a hip issue -- logged 14 of a possible 65 snaps on offense in the contest, while top back Rhamondre Stevenson was out there for 51 snaps en route to 25 carries for 120 yards and a TD. Though Gibson wasn't targeted by Jacoby Brissett in Week 1, the former Commander should see some involvement as a pass-catcher in the coming weeks. Gibson's fantasy ceiling figures to remain modest as long as Stevenson remains available, however.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Suits up Sunday

Gibson (hip) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Bengals. Gibson finished up the practice week with limited participation in both Thursday and Friday's sessions before being listed as questionable. With his Week 1 availability confirmed, Gibson is in line to work in a change-of-pace capacity behind Rhamondre Stevenson, a role that could result in the 26-year-old yielding a degree of fantasy utility in deeper PPR formats over the course of his first campaign with New England.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Questionable but optimistic

Gibson (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, but Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports that the running back is optimistic he'll be able to play. Gibson closed out the week with limited participation in practice Thursday and Friday. If he's able to play, Gibson is expected to work in a change-of-pace role behind Rhamondre Stevenson, mixing in primarily for passing situations. JaMycal Hasty would be the next man up for backup duties if Gibson has a setback.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Limited with hip injury

Gibson (hip) was added to Thursday's injury report as a limited participant in practice, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Gibson practiced in full Wednesday, so it appears his current hip injury is a new issue. The backup running back will have one more chance to upgrade his practice level ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Bengals. If Gibson were to miss any time, JaMycal Hasty would stand to step in as the No. 2 option behind starter Rhamondre Stevenson.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 1 Waiver Priority List

Gibson is the No. 2 running back on what should be a bad Patriots team, but if something happens to Rhamondre Stevenson then Gibson could be a borderline starter in all leagues. I've drafted him in a few leagues with a late-round pick, and he could be a good stash candidate to see if he'll work in tandem with Stevenson, especially in the passing game.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Closes preseason with four touches

Gibson carried the ball three times for 17 yards in Sunday's 20-10 preseason loss to the Commanders. He added one reception (on two targets) for 13 yards. Gibson was the first back in the game for the Patriots with Rhamondre Stevenson sitting out. He played only one offensive drive with Jacoby Brissett (shoulder) under center and got touches on four of the first five offensive plays. Gibson will enter the regular season as the second back on the depth chart, and he should get plenty of work in obvious passing situations while occasionally spelling Stevenson on the ground.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Five touches in preseason opener

Gibson rushed four times for four yards and brought in his only target for 13 yards in the Patriots' 17-3 preseason win over the Panthers on Thursday. The veteran back's team debut included the distinction of being on the receiving end of rookie third overall pick Drake Maye's first professional completion. Gibson unsurprisingly ceded the first series to Rhamondre Stevenson, who's projected to serve as the Patriots' clear lead back this coming season while the former acts in more of a third-down/pass-catching capacity.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Back at practice

Gibson (undisclosed) returned to practice Thursday, Paul Perillo of the Patriots' official site reports. Coach Jerod Mayo indicated Wednesday that Gibson wasn't expected to be out long term, and indeed the running back's stint on the active/non-football injury list was abbreviated. Now that he's back at practice, Gibson is poised to work in a key complementary role in the Patriots backfield alongside incumbent starter Rhamondre Stevenson. In that capacity, Gibson should have an opportunity to maintain a degree of fantasy value, considering that the team could lean on the ground game early on this season with a new QB -- either Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye -- in line to get the Week 1 starting nod.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Lands on NFI list

Gibson (undisclosed) has been placed on the Patriots' active/non-football injury list, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Gibson's unspecified issue will prevent him from practicing as training camp commences, but once he's cleared to re-take the field, he'll work toward cementing a key complementary role in New England's backfield alongside returning starter Rhamondre Stevenson. Given that the Patriots are slated to start the season with a new top quarterback (either Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye) and that there's uncertainly with regard to how the team's pass-catching corps will shake out, it's reasonable to expect that a ground game featuring Stevenson and Gibson could pace the attack early on in the 2024 campaign.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Headed to New England

The Patriots are slated to sign Gibson, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. With Ezekiel Elliott set to become a free agent, the pending addition of Gibson -- whose deal is for three years -- gives the Patriots a versatile back to pair with lead rusher Rhamondre Stevenson. In 16 regular-season games with Washington in 2023, Gibson recorded 65 carries for 265 yards and a touchdown, while adding 48 catches for 389 yards and two receiving scores on 59 targets. In his first campaign with New England, look for Gibson to spell Stevenson on early downs, with change-of-pace/pass-catching duties also on tap. In that scenario, Gibson should have an opportunity to earn enough touches to merit lineup consideration in PPR formats in 2024.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Posts career lows in contract year

Gibson finished 2023 with 65 carries for 265 yards and a touchdown and 48 catches for 389 yards and two touchdowns on 59 targets. The 2020 third-round pick added one target, two catches and 46 receiving yards to his 2022 career highs in those categories and also averaged a new personal best of 8.1 yards per catch, but it didn't work out for fantasy with his rushing numbers falling off a cliff. After averaging 214 carries for 916 yards and nine TDs over his first two seasons, Gibson dropped to 149-546-3 in 2022 before plummeting further in 2023. He didn't get many carries even when Brian Robinson missed time with a hamstring injury in December, instead sticking in the passing-down role while rookie Chris Rodriguez (ankle) took over as the lead runner for a few weeks. Gibson doesn't have the best instincts or vision as a ballcarrier, but it's possible another team could make better use of his rare combination of size and speed (he ran a 4.39 40 in 2020 at 228 pounds), with Jerick McKinnon's career arc perhaps being a best-case scenario. The 25-year-old Gibson will be a free agent in March if he doesn't re-sign with the Commanders before the start of the new league year.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Tallies six touches in Week 17

Gibson recorded four carries for 19 yards and gathered in two of four targets for 17 yards during Sunday's 27-10 loss to the 49ers. Gibson welcomed back Brian Robinson (hamstring) to the Commanders backfield for the first time since Week 13, but even with Chris Rodriguez (ankle) going on injured reserve Thursday, Gibson's workload didn't differentiate from what he's accustomed to this season. His touch count landed in the middle of his typical range of 4-to-14, and Gibson again was easily out-touched by Robinson, 13-6. As such, Gibson likely will have a similar role Week 18 against the Cowboys.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

Gibson might be the last man standing in the Washington backfield in Week 17 against San Francisco with Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) and Chris Rodriguez Jr. (foot) both banged up. If either plays then I'll likely remove Gibson from this list, but he should get 15-plus touches and have the chance for a quality outing against the 49ers, who have allowed three running backs in the past two games to score at least 14 PPR points with James Conner, Emari Demercado and Gus Edwards. San Francisco is also tied for fifth in most receptions allowed to running backs this year with 83, and Gibson has at least four catches in five of his past seven games.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: RBs to Sit

With Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) out in Week 15 at the Rams, Gibson did not see a spike in playing time or touches, which was frustrating. He only had four carries for 15 yards and five catches for 20 yards on five targets, and Chris Rodriguez Jr. led the team in carries with 10. Robinson is still banged up heading into Week 16 at the Jets, so don't count on Gibson seeing an increased role. He could still be a flex option in PPR -- he has five games with at least four catches in his past six outings -- but don't make the mistake to overvalue him again if Robinson can't play.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Role doesn't increase

Gibson took four carries for 15 yards and caught each of his five targets for 20 yards in a 28-20 loss to the Rams on Sunday. He surprisingly didn't get more playing time in the absence of Brian Robinson (hamstring), with Gibson's 45 percent snap share lining up with his season-long rate of 46 percent. The Commanders instead used Chris Rodriguez (10 carries for 35 yards) as their lead runner and also gave Jonathan Williams some playing time (13 snaps, 22 percent), though Williams eventually left due to a concussion. Gibson might have more appeal in Week 16 against the Jets if both Robinson and Williams are inactive, but even that scenario isn't a guarantee of anything after his disappointing Week 15 results.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Set for larger role

Gibson and Chris Rodriguez will lead Washington's backfield Sunday against the Rams with Brian Robinson (hamstring) ruled out, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports. Gibson figures to play more than usual, though it's hard to pinpoint the extent of his role expansion given that Rodriguez also could get a bunch of the carries that normally go to Robinson. A look back at Week 13 isn't especially helpful, considering the Commanders had just 21 snaps in the second half of their blowout loss to Miami after losing Robinson to the hamstring injury shortly before halftime. Gibson did get 12 of the first 17 snaps in that second half before Rodriguez closed out the game with carries on each of Washington's final four plays. This might be a multi-game situation given that Robinson wasn't able to practice at all coming out of a Week 14 bye.
