  Walker threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Thursday's win over the Marlins, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out three to earn a hold. Walker piggybacked Walker Buehler -- who started the game with five scoreless frames -- as the Phillies prepare and align their pitching staff for the postseason after clinching a first-round bye Wednesday. A longtime starter in the majors, Walker has taken well to relief work, posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 19 innings out of the bullpen this season compared to a 4.25 ERA and 1.45 WHIP as a starter.

• Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Goes four innings Friday

  Walker allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two over four innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Friday. Both runs allowed came in the first inning, but Walker was able to steady himself after that. He worked the first part of a piggyback with Walker Buehler, who earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen once the Phillies took the lead in the sixth frame. This start saw Walker allow his fewest runs in his last six outings -- he had given up at least three runs in each of his previous five appearances. For the season, he has a 4.18 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 81:38 K:BB through 120.2 innings over 32 appearances (21 starts). It's unclear at this time how exactly Walker and Buehler will be deployed next week, but the Phillies' last two series are at home in favorable matchups versus the Marlins and Twins.

  Walker will be piggybacked by Walker Buehler on Friday in Arizona, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Walker will get the ball first in the tandem start. The Phillies initially operated with a six-man rotation when Buehler was added to the mix, but they're realigning things in order to set up Cristopher Sanchez for the first game of the postseason. Walker has struggled lately, collecting a 7.20 ERA and 14:9 K:BB over 25 innings covering his last five starts.

• Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Suffers eighth loss

  Walker (4-8) conceded four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings to take the loss Sunday at Miami. He struck out one. The Philadelphia right-hander coughed up all four runs in the opening frame, highlighted by a 424-foot, three-run long ball from Otto Lopez. Walker did not fool the Marlins lineup, generating just four whiffs out of his 87 total pitches, and he's now winless over his last six starts. Over that span, the 33-year-old has produced an unsightly 5.23 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 16:11 K:BB in 32.2 frames, morphing back into a pitcher best left for the waiver wire. Walker currently lines up to make his next start at home against Kansas City next weekend.

  Walker allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two batters over four innings in a no-decision against Milwaukee on Monday. Walker fell behind quickly, allowing four runs over his first two innings. He gave up just one more run across his final two frames, and Philadelphia's offense exploded late to take Walker off the hook for a loss. Nonetheless, this wasn't a promising start by the right-hander -- the five runs he yielded were a season high, and four of the seven hits (two doubles and two homers) he allowed went for extra bases. Walker hasn't pitched more than five innings in any of his past three starts, posting a 7.71 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB across 14 frames during that span. He'll look to do better in his next start, which is tentatively slated to take place in Miami this weekend.
