Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW
Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Could lose playing time soon
Dalbec will start at first base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Dalbec will stay in the lineup for the fourth time in five games, making his second start at first base during that stretch while the lefty-hitting Dominic Smith hits the bench against Phillies southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Though Dalbec had also recently picked up starts at third base and in right field, he likely won't see many more opportunities at those positions moving forward after Masataka Yoshida returned from the injured list Tuesday and after Tyler O'Neill (knee) rejoined the lineup Wednesday following a three-game absence. Instead, Dalbec looks like he'll be stuck in the short side of a platoon with Smith.

Dominic Smith 1B | SF
Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Drops out of lineup vs. lefty
Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
With lefty Cristopher Sanchez on the hill for Philadelphia, the lefty-hitting Smith will hit the bench after starting in each of the last three contests. Bobby Dalbec will check in at first base Wednesday and could end up serving as Smith's regular platoon mate moving forward in the wake of Garrett Cooper being designated for assignment.

Joey Meneses DH | NYM
Nationals' Joey Meneses: Re-entering starting lineup
Meneses will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Meneses had been on the bench for each of the Nationals' previous three games, but he'll get the first opportunity to enter the lineup in place of Joey Gallo (hamstring), who landed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. After turning in a .722 OPS in his first full season in the big leagues in 2023, Meneses has taken a big step back thus far in 2024, slashing just .232/.292/.296 with a miniscule .064 ISO across 226 plate appearances.

LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Aiming for return next Thursday
Wade (hamstring) said Wednesday that he's pushing hard for a return from the 10-day injured list for the Giants' matchup with the Cardinals on June 20 at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala., Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
When he was placed on the IL on May 28 with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, Wade was projected to miss four weeks, but the veteran first baseman took batting practice Tuesday and fielded grounders and started some light running Wednesday as he aims to beat his estimated return timeline by one week. Wade acknowledged that if he's able to return for MLB's June 20 Negro Leagues tribute game, he would likely be relegated to designated-hitter duties. The Giants will presumably continue to monitor Wade's progress as he ramps up over the next week before determining if a June 20 return is feasible. The 30-year-old hadn't been a premium source of counting stats prior to being deactivated due to the injury, but he was hitting an impressive .333 while getting on base at a .470 clip through his first 52 games of the season.

Trenton Brooks DH | SD
Giants' Trenton Brooks: Heading to bench versus lefty
Brooks is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The lefty-hitting Brooks will hit the bench for the second day in a row, this time against a lefty (Framber Valdez) after sitting versus right-hander Ronel Blanco in Tuesday's 3-1 loss. Brooks and Wilmer Flores will continue to form a rough platoon at first base while LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is on the shelf, though Flores will still see some select starts against right-handed pitching.

Josh Naylor 1B | SEA
Guardians' Josh Naylor: Goes deep in win
Naylor went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two additional RBI in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Reds.
Naylor had an RBI single and drove in another run with a fielder's choice in the contest. While his bat is still quiet in June -- he's gone 5-for-32 (.156) over eight games -- he's still driven in eight RBI this month. Overall, the first baseman is slashing .224/.307/.483 with 17 homers, 50 RBI, 36 runs scored and three stolen bases through 62 contests.

Joey Gallo LF | CHW
Nationals' Joey Gallo: Placed on IL with hamstring strain
The Nationals placed Gallo on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left hamstring strain.
Gallo exited Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Tigers due to the injury. The Nationals haven't revealed the grade of Gallo's hamstring strain, but the injury is clearly significant enough that he won't be available for at least the next 10 days. Trey Lipscomb was called up from Triple-A Rochester to replace Gallo on the 26-man active roster and will be an option at first base along with Joey Meneses.

Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Absent from lineup
Hoskins is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Blue Jays.
Hoskins has been struggling at the plate over the past week, going just 3-for-20. He'll begin Wednesday's afternoon game on the bench while Jake Bauers plays first base and Christian Yelich serves as the Brewers' designated hitter.

Freddie Freeman 1B | LAD
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Homers as part of three-hit night
Freeman went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and three runs scored in Tuesday's 15-2 win over the Rangers.
Freeman's big hit of the night came in the sixth when he went back-to-back with Shohei Ohtani as part of a four-homer inning for the Dodgers. Freeman now has multiple hits in four of nine games this month to go along with three home runs after he totaled just six homers through the end of May. His .401 on-base percentage currently ranks fifth in all of baseball, as he's slashing .297/.401/.498 with 30 extra-base hits, 41 RBI, 43 runs and a 39:49 BB:K in 299 plate appearances.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 1B | TOR
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Receiving day off
Guerrero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
With Daniel Vogelbach serving as Toronto's designated hitter and with Spencer Horwitz getting the nod at first base, Guerrero will hit the bench for the first time all season in what appears to be routine maintenance. Guerrero went hitless in nine at-bats over his first two games of the series to bring his batting average down to .282 for the season.
