Keston Hiura 2B | LAD
Brewers' Keston Hiura: Collects fifth stolen base
Hiura went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Dodgers.
Despite not having a full-time role with the Brewers at any point this season and having spent chunks of the year in the minors, Hiura has been a sneaky source of counting stats with 10 home runs and five steals across 160 plate appearances. After a quality showing at the plate Wednesday while serving as the Brewers' designated hitter, Hiura will stick in the lineup for Thursday's series finale, batting sixth and manning first base.

Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL
Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Takes seat Thursday
Tellez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.
Tellez owns a .997 OPS since the start of August, but the Brewers are facing left-hander Andrew Heaney on Thursday, so manager Craig Counsell opted to play the matchup and give right-handed hitter Keston Hiura the nod at first base.

Jake Cronenworth 1B | SD
Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Launches grand slam in win
Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Marlins.
His first-inning blast off Pablo Lopez wound up being the game-deciding hit, although the Padres would go on to add plenty of insurance. Cronenworth appears to be heating up at the plate again, batting ,290 (9-for-31) over his last eight contests with a 5:3 BB:K, but the streaky super-utility player is still only slashing .239/.343/.387 through 117 games on the season with 12 homers, 63 RBI and 72 runs.

Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Breaks out of slump with homer
Rizzo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-7 victory over the Rays.
Rizzo led off the eighth inning with a home run off lefty reliever Brooks Raley to tie the game for the Yankees. After hitting homers in four straight games from July 29 to August 2, the first baseman has fallen into a slump with a .097 average and .410 OPS in 31 at-bats over his last nine games. The 33-year-old is more productive at home with a .545 slugging percentage and 18 home runs in 200 at-bats compared to a .440 slugging percentage and 10 home runs in 175 at-bats away from Yankee Stadium.

Pete Alonso 1B | BAL
Mets' Pete Alonso: Base hit, stolen base Wednesady
Alonso went 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run scored and one stolen base in Wednesday's win over Atlanta.
While most of New York's offense on the night came off of extra-base hits, Alonso contributed with an RBI base knock in the top of the ninth. He proceeded to steal second base for his third steal of the season, a career high, and came around on a Daniel Vogelbach double as the Mets cushioned their lead. The first baseman's two RBI on the night keep him in second place in the majors behind Aaron Judge.

C.J. Cron 1B | BOS
Rockies' C.J. Cron: Power outage continues
Cron went 1-for-4 Wednesday against the Cardinals.
Cron has struggled at the plate since the All-Star break, as he is hitting just .181/.245/.319 across 23 games. He has seven extra-base hits -- including two home runs -- in that span, to go along with nine runs scored and 11 RBI. Cron still owns a .352 wOBA and 113 wRC+ for the season, but he's fallen off his first-half pace.

P.J. Higgins 1B | CIN
Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Provides jolt Wednesday
Higgins went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Nationals.
Higgins gave the Cubs an unexpected boost from the No. 9 spot in the order, going deep in the fifth inning with a runner on to put Chicago up 2-1. The 29-year-old has actually been swinging the bat pretty well this season, as he now has six home runs and an .884 OPS across 43 games. He could earn himself a little more playing time down the stretch, potentially at first base because Willson Contreras and Yan Gomes are ahead of him at catcher.

Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE
Rangers' Kole Calhoun: Beginning rehab assignment
Calhoun (heel) will report to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment.
Though Calhoun hadn't resumed baseball activities as of Friday, he's evidently made substantial progress in the last few days, given that he's advanced to a minor-league rehab assignment. Assuming his right heel doesn't cause him any problems while playing for Round Rock, he could be cleared to return from the injured list as soon as this weekend.

Matt Beaty 1B | KC
Padres' Matt Beaty: Reinstated, optioned to Triple-A
Beaty (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day IL on Tuesday and was subsequently optioned to Triple-A El Paso, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Beaty restarted his rehab assignment July 27 and is slashing .309/.433/.418 with a home run and seven RBI in 15 games since. He's back to full health, but the Padres don't appear to have room for him on the big-league roster at the moment. Beaty has struggled during his time in the majors this season, batting .108 with no homers and only one RBI over 37 at-bats.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Requires season-ending surgery
Votto will undergo season-ending surgery Friday to address a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Votto wasn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Philadelphia, and he's apparently dealing with a shoulder injury that will end his season. The 38-year-old struggled to get things going in 2022 and slashed .205/.319/.370 with 11 home runs, 41 RBI and 31 runs over 91 games. Matt Reynolds should see increased playing time at first base until Mike Moustakas (calf) is cleared to return. It's not yet clear whether Votto is expected to be healthy in time for spring training in 2023.
