Torres was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a sprained left thumb.

Manager Aaron Boone expressed concern after Torres suffered the injury while sliding into second base during Sunday's loss to the Mariners, and the shortstop will end up requiring a stint on the injured list. It's not known how long the 24-year-old is expected to be sidelined, though he won't be eligible to be activated until Aug. 19. It's a tough blow for the Yankees, who are already without Gary Sanchez (COVID-19), Anthony Rizzo (COVID-19), Gio Urshela (hamstring) and numerous pitchers. Andrew Velazquez had his contract selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to bolster New York's depth at shortstop in the meantime.

Clement isn't starting Monday's game against the Reds.

Clement had recorded hits in each of the last three games, and he went 6-for-11 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts during that time. Andres Gimenez will start at the keystone and bat ninth.

Lowe went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a stolen base, a walk and a run in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Just a few hours after belting a grand slam and driving in five runs overall Saturday night, Lowe came right back with another multi-hit effort out of the leadoff spot Sunday. The successful weekend marks Lowe's first set of consecutive two-hit tallies since June 11 and 12, and he now owns an impressive .269/.387/.474 slash line with seven doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI across 22 second-half games.

Miller went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 7-5 win over Detroit.

The utility man hit a solo shot in the second inning and then scored after reaching on an error in the fourth. Miller has covered for Bobby Bradley (knee) the last two games at first base, although the former has received fairly regular playing time at second base too. Miller has a .145/.207/.250 slash line with two home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored through 82 plate appearances.

Lopez went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a stolen base in Sunday's 6-5 win over St. Louis.

The shortstop didn't get cold during a lengthy rain delay, as he delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning. Lopez stole second with two outs, but he was left on base. While he's usually hit at or near the bottom of the order, Lopez was bumped up to the No. 2 spot for his two starts in St. Louis. He's gone 5-for-16 during a modest four-game hitting streak. The 26-year-old is batting .277 with nine stolen bases, 25 RBI and 43 runs scored through 333 plate appearances.

Merrifield went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-5 win over St. Louis.

The 32-year-old retook sole possession of the major-league lead in steals with his 30th in Sunday's contest. Even more impressively, he's only been caught once this year. Merrifield has added a .269/.315/.388 slash line with eight home runs, 54 RBI and 59 runs scored through 110 games.

Polanco went 2-for-4 with two homers, a walk and four RBI in Sunday's 7-5 win over Houston.

Polanco belted a solo homer in the fifth inning off starter Lance McCullers and later extended Minnesota's lead with a three-run blast in the sixth. The 28-year-old infielder has found some extra pop in August, knocking five homers with 11 RBI in seven games this month. He's up to 20 long balls this season, two shy of his career-high 22 set in 2019. Polanco is slashing .272/.333/.484 through 444 plate appearances.

Arroyo (hamstring) was recently cleared to resume baseball activities but remains without a clear timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Arroyo and Danny Santana (groin) appear to be in roughly the same spot in their rehab programs for lower-body injuries, which they sustained within a few days of one another shortly after the All-Star break. Until Arroyo heads out on a minor-league rehab assignment, his return to the big-league roster shouldn't be considered imminent. Once reinstated from the IL, Arroyo could factor into the mix for regular playing time at first base versus right-handed pitching.

Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Short had appeared in nine of the last 10 games, but he went 0-for-23 with two RBI, three walks and 12 strikeouts during that time. The 26-year-old will attempt to sort things out in the minors, while Niko Goodrum (calf) will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against Baltimore.
