Gimenez will hit the bench against lefty Danny Duffy and the Royals on Thursday.

Gimenez has now been on the bench against eight of the last 10 lefties that Cleveland has faced. Even with that protection from same-sided pitching, he's having a very tough time at the plate, hitting just .176/.222/.324 with a 31.5 percent strikeout rate. Amed Rosario, who's hitting just .188/.253/.313 himself, will start at shortstop in his absence.

Edwards is opening the year on the 7-day injured list with Double-A Montgomery due to an oblique injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.

He suffered the injury in minor-league camp, but the Rays don't think the injury is serious. Edwards is expected back sometime this month.

Polanco isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.

Polanco had gone 0-for-7 with a walk and six strikeouts in the last two games. Nick Gordon will make his major-league debut at second base and bat seventh.

Ibanez started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Twins.

The 28-year-old, Cuban-born Ibanez had his contract selected this week and made his MLB debut Tuesday, when he delivered a pinch-hit single. The Rangers have always liked his ability to hit, according to Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News, but his defense has been a hindrance to regular playing time at the major-league level. Manager Chris Woodward believes he's put in the work to improve as a fielder. With Brock Holt (hamstring) sidelined, Ibanez will get an opportunity to play third base.

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a single in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Yankees.

Altuve's leadoff single in the first inning snapped a hitless streak of 10 at-bats, but the second baseman had been scuffling prior to that stretch. He has just two hits over his last 29 at-bats, which has dropped his season average to .247.

Brujan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run in a win over Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

While teammate Wander Franco has stolen the headlines over the Bulls' first two games of the season, Brujan -- a highly regarded prospect in his own right -- has gotten off to just as hot a start. Wednesday's production pushed Brujan's tally at the plate to 4-for-8 over his first two games, and early indications are that he's capable of thriving against a higher caliber of arms after finishing his last minor-league campaign at Double-A Montgomery back in 2019.

Lowe went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's win over the Angels.

Hits were hard to come across for the Rays in the contest , but Lowe supplied all the offense the team needed with a three-run blast off reliever Junior Guerra in the seventh inning. The homer was Lowe's fifth this season and pushed his RBI total to 14. He is batting only .193 overall but has reached base in eight of his past nine games.

Arroyo had X-rays come back negative on his left hand and was diagnosed with a bruise after leaving Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

It's the second time in the past couple weeks the 25-year-old has been hit by a pitch on the left hand. Arroyo appears to have avoided a serious injury but isn't expected to play in Thursday's series finale, per Bill Koch of The Providence Journal.

Rosario isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Rosario will get a breather after he struck out in each of his four at-bats Tuesday. Harold Ramirez will start in center field and bat seventh.

Torres went 0-for-2 with three walks, a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Astros.

While the 24-year-old wasn't able to extend his five-game hitting streak, he did reach base for the ninth straight game. Torres is putting his sluggish start to the season behind him, and while he's still looking for his first homer of the year, he's now slashing .240/.345/.290 with two steals, seven RBI and nine runs through 27 contests.
