  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Back in action

Lopez (lower leg) is starting at second base and hitting ninth Wednesday against the Cubs.

Lopez is back in action after missing a couple of games with a bruised shin. He's 3-for-18 (.167) with a double through nine games this season.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Fills in for Madrigal

Mendick replaced the injured Nick Madrigal (shoulder) in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Brewers. He went 0-for-3 with a run scored.

Mendick entered the game after Madrigal injured his shoulder on a slide into third base. The White Sox have been hit with several injuries, including shortstop Tim Anderson (groin). Leury Garcia, who opened the season as the starting second baseman, moved to shortstop. That leaves Mendick as the most likely fill-in at second base while Madrigal heals. Mendick has a middling track record as a hitter in the minors.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Homers in win

Altuve went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-2 win over Arizona.

Altuve got the Astros started early with a first-inning homer, his second long ball of the season. Despite the effort Tuesday, he remains mired in a slump, batting just .163 (7-for-43) with a .606 OPS over 10 games.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Notches second steal

Kemp went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Rangers.

Kemp led off the sixth inning with a single and then stole second, but he couldn't get home. The 28-year-old has two steals and four runs scored across 17 plate appearances this year. Expect Kemp to continue battling with Chad Pinder for playing time at second base.

  • Angels' Jeremiah Jackson: Added to pool

Jackson joined the Angels' player pool Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Jackson will report to the team's alternate training site in Long Beach, CA. With no minor-league games this season, he'll get the chance to continue his development in the best available environment, though he's highly unlikely to make his debut this season, as he's yet to play above rookie ball.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Not starting Monday

Kemp is not in the lineup Monday against the Mariners.

Kemp doesn't appear to have the starting job at second base in Oakland, but it's not clear that anyone else does, either. Kemp has started four times in the first 10 games, while Chad Pinder, who starts Monday, has gotten the nod five times. Vimael Machin has started once.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Remains out Monday

Lopez (shin) remains on the bench Monday against the Cubs, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Lopez left Saturday's game against the White sox after bruising his shin while turning a double play, though he appeared off the bench in Sunday's contest. Whit Merrifield remains the starter at second base Monday.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Day off Monday

Torres is not in the lineup Monday against the Phillies.

Torres left Thursday's game against Baltimore after getting hit by a pitch in the elbow but started all three games in the weekend series against Boston, and there hasn't been any indication that this is anything other than a routine day off for the young infielder. He may need a day to sort things out after starting the season hitting .179/.258/.286 through his first eight games. Tyler Wade will start at shortstop in his absence.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Sits for first time

Polanco is not in the lineup Monday against the Pirates.

Both Polanco and left fielder Eddie Rosario will rest for the first time this year in Monday's game. Ehire Adrianza will enter the lineup at shortstop.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: On base thrice in win

Kemp went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run in a win over the Mariners on Sunday.

Kemp once again operated out of the bottom of the order and manned the keystone, and he managed to reach safely for the third straight start. The speedster is hitting just .111 over his first 13 plate appearances, but his keen eye at the plate has helped him draw four walks and post a .385 on-base percentage in the small sample.
