  • Ji-Hwan Bae 2B | NYM

Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Sitting Friday

Bae isn't in the Pirates' lineup Friday against the Marlins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Bae has gone 5-for-20 with four RBI and three runs scored across his last five games, and he'll get a breather to open Pittsburgh's final series of 2023. Jared Triolo will start at second base instead while Connor Joe gets the nod at first base.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Still out Friday

Arraez (ankle) isn't in the Marlins' lineup Friday against Pittsburgh, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

  • Kolten Wong 2B | BAL

Dodgers' Kolten Wong: Three hits off bench

Wong went 3-for-3 off the bench in Thursday's 14-5 loss to the Rockies.

Mookie Betts was taken out of the game once the Dodgers fell far behind, and Wong stepped up to lead the team in hits despite not starting the contest. Wong has two multi-hit efforts over his last three games, but those are his only such games since joining the Dodgers. He's slashing .186/.259/.267 through 85 contests between Los Angeles and Seattle, though he's at a .333/.387/.556 slash line in a limited sample (31 plate appearances) with the Dodgers.

He's hitting .283 (17-for-60) in September and .269 since he joined the Dodgers in a trade from the Red Sox. Between the two teams this year, he's at a .239/.292/.354 slash line with 10 homers, 58 RBI, 56 runs scored and four stolen bases over 138 contests.

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Has partial UCL tear

Manager Buck Showalter announced Thursday that McNeil (elbow) has been diagnosed with a partial UCL tear, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

McNeil was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday afternoon with what was initially called a left elbow sprain. He is expected to avoid surgery and will try platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment with the goal of being 100 percent recovered by the beginning of spring training next February. The 31-year-old signed a four-year, $50 million contract extension with the Mets before the start of the 2023 campaign and went on to slash .270/.333/.378 with 10 homers and 10 steals in 156 games.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Remains sidelined Thursday

Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup Thursday versus the Mets.

Arraez has now started only two of the Marlins' last seven games, at a crucial time as they look to claim the third NL wild-card spot. He sprained his left ankle during an infield drill last Tuesday and then aggravated the injury Saturday when he slipped on the dugout steps in Miami. Xavier Edwards is covering second base and batting ninth in Thursday's series finale against New York.
