Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Not starting Tuesday

Hoerner will be on the bench Tuesday against the Royals.

Hoerner grabbed at least one hit in each of his first five games but has since gone hitless in four straight. Jason Kipnis will be the second baseman Tuesday.

  • Amed Rosario SS | NYY

Mets' Amed Rosario: Dealing with quad tightness

Rosario exited Monday's game against the Braves with left quad tightness, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

He couldn't run full speed to first base on a groundout early in the contest and was subsequently pulled with the injury. Andres Gimenez would likely get starts at shortstop if Rosario has to miss time. Rosario was 1-for-2 with a run scored prior to exiting.

  • Amed Rosario SS | NYY

Mets' Amed Rosario: Exits with lower-body injury

Rosario left Monday's game against the Braves in the bottom of the third inning with an apparent injury, David Lennon of Newsday reports.

He ran slowly out of the box on a groundout and then exited the game. Andres Gimenez shifted to shortstop while Luis Guillorme came in to play third base.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Out with lower-back tightness

McNeil was scratched from Monday's lineup after experiencing lower-back tightness during his pregame batting cage routine, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

It sounds like this could be just a day-to-day situation for McNeil, but back injuries are always tricky to predict. Luis Guillorme and Andres Gimenez could pick up extra starts at third base if McNeil misses more than just Monday's game.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Last-minute scratch Monday

McNeil was a last-minute scratch from Monday's lineup against the Braves, Steve Gelbs of SNY TV reports.

J.D. Davis will start at designated hitter with Dominic Smith starting in left field. There has been no reason given for McNeil's removal from the lineup.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Not starting Monday

Hernandez isn't in the lineup Monday against the Padres.

Hernandez will retreat to the bench for the third time in the past four games despite recording hits in his last three contests. Max Muncy will shift to the keystone with Matt Beaty starting at first base, batting eighth.

  • Mark Mathias 2B | CIN

Brewers' Mark Mathias: Recalled from alternate camp

Mathias was recalled by the Brewers on Monday.

Mathias has yet to appear in the majors, but he'll join the Brewers' 30-man roster to play a bench role as part of a string of transactions. The 26-year-old spent the 2019 season at Triple-A Columbus, where he recorded a career-high .797 OPS with 12 home runs, 59 RBI and 13 stolen bases over 115 games, but he's unlikely to see significant playing time in Milwaukee.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Pirates' Adam Frazier: Not starting in series opener

Frazier is not in the lineup Monday against the Twins.

Frazier had started every game for the Pirates to begin the season and is currently riding a three-game hitting streak. However, Kevin Newman will shift to second base Monday with Erik Gonzalez taking over at shortstop and batting ninth.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Back in lineup Monday

Albies (wrist) is in the lineup Monday against the Mets, batting second.

Albies has been nursing a right wrist issue for several days, but he'll start for the second time in the past four games. Although Albies is back in the lineup for the series finale against the Mets on Monday, the Braves could still exercise caution with their second baseman as he continues to recover.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

    Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Nearing callup

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts suggested Sunday that Lux is "getting closer" to receiving a callup from the team's alternate training site, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

After a delayed arrival to summer camp and a slew of lackluster showings in workouts upon reporting, Lux was dispatched to Los Angeles' alternate camp shortly before Opening Day. The demotion was never expected to be a permanent one for Lux, who is beginning to get into a groove at the dish while taking live at-bats daily at the alternate training site, according to Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA. While Lux should eventually be back with the Dodgers and factor into the mix for starts at second base, he could have to settle for more of a part-time role with both Enrique Hernandez and Chris Taylor off to nice starts to the season.
