    Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Nearing callup

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts suggested Sunday that Lux is "getting closer" to receiving a callup from the team's alternate training site, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

After a delayed arrival to summer camp and a slew of lackluster showings in workouts upon reporting, Lux was dispatched to Los Angeles' alternate camp shortly before Opening Day. The demotion was never expected to be a permanent one for Lux, who is beginning to get into a groove at the dish while taking live at-bats daily at the alternate training site, according to Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA. While Lux should eventually be back with the Dodgers and factor into the mix for starts at second base, he could have to settle for more of a part-time role with both Enrique Hernandez and Chris Taylor off to nice starts to the season.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

Astros' Jack Mayfield: Makes first start

Mayfield started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 in Sunday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Angels.

Mayfield made his first start of the season while Carlos Correa got the day off. Mayfield is filling in as the team's utility infielder with Aledmys Diaz (groin) on the injured list, but he's rarely used. Other than Sunday's start, Mayfield has made one appearance as a pinch runner and scored a run.

  • Nicky Lopez 2B | TEX

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Sitting with injury Sunday

Lopez (shin) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Lopez exited early in Saturday's loss to the White Sox with a shin contusion, and while the injury is believed to be minor, manager Mike Matheny evidently thought that the youngster could benefit from a day of rest. Whit Merrifield will cover second base in place of Lopez in the series finale.

  • Mauricio Dubon LF | ATL

Giants' Mauricio Dubon: Sitting again Sunday

Dubon is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Rangers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Dubon started the first five games of the season, but he'll now be on the bench for the fourth time in the past five games. Donovan Solano will start again at the keystone Sunday for the Giants.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Returns to bench Sunday

Albies (wrist) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

The 23-year-old was limited to bench duties Friday while battling a right wrist issue but returned to the lineup Saturday, though it appears he's still not past the injury. Albies will be available off the bench Sunday, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com, but he'll likely be receiving regular maintenance days over the next few weeks to help manage the injury. Adeiny Hechavarria receives another start at the keystone for the Braves.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Belts third homer

Merrifield went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and was caught stealing during Saturday's 11-5 loss to the White Sox.

The 31-year-old was in the midst of a mini-slump as he was 0-for-9 over the past two games, but he got things going again Saturday. Merrifield is 12-for-37 with three home runs, three doubles, eight runs, nine RBI and one stolen base through nine games in 2020.

  • Nicky Lopez 2B | TEX

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Makes precautionary exit

Lopez was removed from Saturday's game against the White Sox with a shin contusion, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old sustained the injury when he was slid into while turning a double play, but it doesn't appear to be too serious. Lopez went 0-for-2 before leaving the contest and is day-to-day.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Out of Saturday's lineup

Kemp is not in the lineup for Saturday's game at Seattle.

Kemp is 0-for-7 with two runs, a stolen base and two walks through nine plate appearances, and he'll hit the bench with southpaw Yusei Kikuchi on the mound for the Mariners. Chad Pinder will receive the start at second base for the A's.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Sits against southpaw

Lowe is not in the lineup against lefty Wade LeBlanc and the Orioles on Saturday.

The Rays have now faced three lefties this season, and Lowe has started against just one of them. Joey Wendle, who also bats left-handed, will start at second base in his absence.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | KC

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Optioned to alternate camp

Rojas was optioned to the Diamondbacks' alternate training site Saturday.

Rojas had logged just one at-bat over Arizona's first eight games this season, but Andy Young was called up to take his place in a corresponding move Saturday. Given Rojas' struggles at the plate during camp and lack of usage to begin the season, it's unlikely that he'll have a role with the major-league club unless injuries pile up.
